Talk to the Goat

Damn. That boy needs to come with his own decoder ring!

Shared alarm system? Eeesh. At school the first month and a half we were averaging three alarms per day.

Aaah The Pacific Mall... The aromas filling that place must be delicious.

Suggestion for next random answer: I hope they don't have to cut it off!

aww you make me get all cravey for pacific mall goodness. the big resto in there (wait, i don't know if there's more than 1. i never remember the layout) has AMAZING dim sum on weekends. there is also a place err... downstairs? umm, sorry. just wander. anyway, they sell fun ice cream, in brick-form, wrapped in hot waffles. oh, TO DIE FOR. i suggest green tea ice cream, or mango. oh, mango..

wrapped in waffles? can that be for real?

oh it's so real, it's SO REAL! but i always get lost in that place so i never remember where it is. a friend led me to it the first time, and the next 8 attempts were met with 2 completely accidental successes. that's the price one has to pay for A BRICK OF ICE CREAM WRAPPED IN A WAFFLE!

I used to have a neighbor who was terrible to talk to. I could only understand a fraction of what he said. When I didn't understand I just smiled and nodded my head up and down or back and forth.

Well Ricardo is a mumbler with a very heavy accent, and I of course hear nothing, ever. Impossible!

Look at it this way, every day is an adventure! Take a camera and show us the sights!

oh yes - we have those malls in richmond. and dhina town actually as well. we were able to buy knock off dvds - screeners for the most part - as white ppl but then the cops came in and shut them down. sux because we were gettig some great movies for like $5!! but yeah. been there, understand EXACTLY what you went through. little itty bitty "stores" with oddly scented, dried bits of....food?

Hey, I like Kraft Dinner.

Having been a receptionist for a gazillion years, I always found the the hardest accent for me to understand was any kind of Asian one, I don't know why. Most others I can manage to decipher enough to at least figure out what the person on the other end of the line needs.

And yeah, I heart K.D.!

mississauga has a mall at every intersection, but none of them like that one.
as for garbage, we compost and recycle, but no nail clippings, we're allowed two bags of garbage, we normally have only one and we're a family of five.
don't know how to stop you from getting lost, maybe get a dog to get you back home?
i'm in an area of missisauga that is largely a kraft dinner type and i actually have quite a few boxes in my pantry.
you're got so much in here i could comment on, wow! anyway, hope you're starting to feel a little settled in, i better stop as i'm about to overtake your comments section.

Hahahahahaha!! Ahem, sounds like a great neighborhood!

Sounds like my honeymOOn....

I don't think I'd like living there. The smoke alarm thing must get annoying, and it sounds like the area would be a culture shock. Also, I didn't know that Canada had a Thanksgiving!?!

lol. this post is funny! your place and neighbors sound fun

Ooooooh smoke alarms...

When I was working that temp job, the one in the kitchen of the attached-to-the-house apartment (for the disabled daughter) went off and I swear I have never heard anything so loud before. And yes, they all went off and were all that loud. My ears were seriously ringing after that. I didn't know they made them like that. :
As for our house... the one in our basement has needed a new battery for about two weeks now... we're bad I know.

The Baristas at my favourite cafe are called Marena and Leila (Leela)...

Took me my time to remember those names too...

BUT... it took them that long to remember that I have a Non Fat Flat White without Sugar too...

We're pretty much even now.

I say "Purple" when someone loses me in conversation.

I think you should paint a sign on your house in Day-Glo paint "Jay Lives Here", that way you can't miss it, lol

DB

I want a wha-wha-wha neighbor. I think that would be great. I've always wanted to hear how that sound would come out in real life. Plus, I've always been interested on what those wha-wha people look like when they're not just off-camera.

Wow, the mall sounds wild...the only times I've been in the minority are in DC and Tokyo, both of which I have merely visited...

LOL ! funny ey!

I grew up in Markham and now work there. If you ever need a tour or a "best of", email me. I know it's hard moving to a new place.

The green bi program is one of the best things the city has done in a long while.

I just wish they'd enforce the idling by-law.

The first observation must be an Ontario thing. Over here all the malls were open on Thanksgiving. Heck the big mall is only closed on Christmas day and Easter.

Second. Setting of smoke detectors. Been there, done that.

Composting? Alberta is rat free for a reason.

Personally i think Calgary is the nodding neighbour capital of the world.

It's a new city. Give it time. There are parts of Calgary I STILL don't know and I've been here for 8 years.

And finally i know how you feel bout the minority thing. At work, at one point, I thought that i should have a passport because i was sure that I had left the country. Though i did enjoy pretending that people would run away from me screaming "GODZILLA !!!!"

I didn't read all of this, but you sound like a liar.

Poor Jay, I know what it's like getting lost. I get lost everytime I drive myself home from my sisters place, it's relatively easy to get home, but beware the nights they close down parts of the highway for construction....oh Lawrence Avenue and I have history....do we ever.

I've always wanted to visit Pacific mall, mainly because I think their jeans would fit me the best....me being 4'11" and all?

Gots ta run Take care chica!
EF.

What an interesting and diverse neighborhood you have Jay!
Although I would go crazy there. I have a hard time understanding the gal who does my nails, and it tenses me out and embarasses me trying to understand her! I always play like I'm hard of hearing. (I am a little bit, but not as much as I play it up)

3T

Being partially deaf I have trouble understanding what people say all the time. It used to embarrass me when I'd answer completely inappropriately, but then I figured if people really wanted my input they'd either a) stop f-ing mumbling or b) speak louder. For some reason though, accents have never really bothered me...

Yep, Canada sure does have Thanksgiving (in October). And yes our province of Alberta IS rat free!

Sounds like a very interesting neighborhood you live in. Does Toronto still have a heavy Italian population? I know there was a large number living there when I was a kid.

A friend of mine buys those DVDs. Yup, they are bootlegs. I think some are filmed in theatre with a camcorder. That must suck to watch that.

Alarms going off an average of once per week? That must be pretty annoying! then again, I live next to the skytrain and I've gotten used to that.

No suggestions...
I love Pacific Mall. ha ha ha It's the little bit of Asian in me that hasn't been whitewashed out. My dad must be so proud *sniffle*

Like any large city, Toronto has pockets of all kinds of people. It's sort of funny how they all pool together though.

That's it - I want to come visit so I can check out the pacific mall... Please... I'll be good, and i'm small so I won't take up too much space
*grin*

1) No big brands - TFFT
2) Happy Birthday Jason
3) Bypass the composter and just put the nail clippings in an envelope through your landlady's door
4) That might be multiculturalism, but then again it might not...
5) Lucky you didn't just waltz into someone else's house aye? Now *that* would have been idiocy. Hilarious too An old college friend did that once with an identical car in the same street... he managed to get in but then couldn't find his collection of metal & punk tapes... :S Ooops... wrong car!
6) Just nod. It makes them laugh too when they realise you don't understand and tell you you're a complete tool... "ah ha" *nod nod nod* :p

1 month already... It seems like just yesterday you guys were hanging on for dear life as your were at the mercies of a tempermental U-haul.... Good times.

I just stoped by for a good Goat beating... dang?

I knew that when I went off for my 2-week holiday I was going to miss your blog the most. It's good to be back to the internet world.

I know exactly how u feel for no. 5! Hahaha. I even get lost at places I frequently go to!

First time visitor. Thanks for leaving your footprint at the Outpost! Muchly appreciated.

Now, you have an amazing blog, but you probably already knew that. I've just read through your most recent entries and have thoroughly enjoyed my stay! Great, great writing ... original themes ... nice presentation!

[picks up coat and purse and heads for door]

It's always refreshing to find a good writer who stays focused and uses fifty-cent words. Good job!

Please tell me you dont have to seperate your nail clippings.

When it comes to people I can't understand, I tell to smile, nod, and agree. Works most of the time, but I think I've unknowingly agreed to sodomy more times then I'd care to know.

lmao! I, too, have a 2-what-rule!! After asking twice and not understanding I begin to feel stupid, which isn't fair to myself because it's not MY fault if this person is talking like they have shit in their mouth...after two what's, I usually just nod my head in agreement...lol

you're so white. pat, pat. and yes, you probably do smell like kraft dinner to us.
what is it u do exaclty that u need to lie for a living? and i thought that was my job!
