Talk to the Goat

I know the soundtrack to my life. It's called The Cure mixed in with a little Rilo Kiley for good measure.

Were I to plan out said tracks it probably would comprise a 4 CD boxed set.

i'd have to really think to come up with a soundtrack to my life, i know the majority of the ones on yours but i've never heard of #9.

Oh no! My first boy band crush was Joey! He was *so* cute. Seriously.

& Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Christine: if you visit today, I've been to your blog and am unable to leave a comment...but I do say hello, and that salt is a seasoning!

Celine Dion and Mariah Carey scar your ears, but Chris DeBurgh is ok? I've never heard that particular song to be honest so maybe it's totally rocking but...that's a little hard for me to believe.

Wow--quite a soundtrack. I'm just surprised that you could dance to Jump Around, not an easy one to couple-dance to. But I suppose if you were wearing green jeans and a matching green suede vest, anything is possible ...

I love the way various songs can take us back to different chapters in our lives.

I'm also amazed at your excellent memory Jay. I don't think I could remember the name of songs or even some of the artists were I to attempt a soundtrack of my life.

3T

Why thank you Miss Jay. Are you a friend of Lettuce's?

I think my song is probably by the Buzzcocks, "Ever Fallen in Love with (someone you shouldn't'ave)".

Enjoyed reading your list.

not to make you jealous or anything but I was lucky enough to be the proud owner of NKOTB white nylon knee high socks.

They had pictures of the band on one of them and NKOTB in big writing on the other.

Sexxxxxy!

Wow, what a flash back. I had a Joey crash too... and Christian Slater. It is amasing how certain songs can take you right back into the moment.

No happy birthday ?

I remember some of those, I do!! I do!! Sadly, you did not mention the cross border trek to Mtl to watch 3rd eye blind...alas, however "the contest" certainly does ring a bell, having to drive a car load of drunk asses home, while listening to your stories...those were good times. Just last week i was out dancing and the song with You gotta $50 bill....came on and I loved it, D.D. and I thought of Kel & i thought of your comment in the yearbook....

ahhh memories!!

Hey, I remember all those tracks. It's like you were inside my head. Have you been inside my head? Who let you in? Was it the walrus?

Anyway...thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. I thought I'd do the same. I like the tone of your site, I'll make it a regular stop.

And the beat goes on...and the soundtrack keeps growing.

sorry about the error, some memories are not as clear as others...i wasn' even drinking that night!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I just came over to check you out and I LOVE your place here! Great writing. I'll be back.

I hate Mirah Carey, but I loved all the other ones.
I loved the Chris DeBurgh one the best.

There is a song, and some dance moves, that are totally associated with you, Jamie, and would be included in my soundtrack.

The dance moves are from Harriett The Spy and the song is an OLP track...

[PS: I saw Raine take your hand, and your attempt to sing into the mic. If I remember correctly you cried the whole way home.]

God, music is my favourite memory trigger. Thanks, Jamie.

Kel, I know! I was sooo nervous when he put the mic there, and all I could think of was "Ohmigod, I have the worst voice ever! I am so embarrassed and so happy! WTF?!?"

Liz, I don't think I mentioned even half of the concerts I've been to...but I wasn't at the 3EB one; remember how my spleen was so enlarged that I probably would have died if I got within 8 miles of a mosh pit? Yeah, good times.

Ah the memories of those songs and how I was way back then came flooding back, sure pushed back the years.

I remember bopping with my mate Nikki to madonna for hours on end and ABBA too!

I keep listening to 60's tracks at the mo. ;>)

Jay, I absolutely loved this post you wrote.
It helps that I can remember a large chunk of these songs from when I was growing up too.

This is a totally brilliant idea though I definitely don't think I'd be up to the challenge of defining my years by one particular song. Mainly because my memory SUCKS!

And I'm laughing at that part about Boys II Men. You got WAY closer to "the talk" than I ever did.

That was completely beautiful, Jay.

Awesome! It's like traveling in time to "see" all those outfits and"hear" those songs. Great post. I'd have to think really hard to figure out the soundtrack to my life.

Wow, that's a really sweet exercise. I'm not sure I could do that but you certainly have me thinking.

Hmmm, don't know if I could get that detailed. The only song I remember was Prince's "Little Red Corvette" when I was around 18, it cost me $140 noise ordinance ticket. I haven't played it again since.

Jay,
I know that I could probably make a soundtrack for my life, but thankfully I have an Ipod now. I finally got tired of getting pulled over by the cops, or being stuck in traffic, and hearing the song "Who is sorry now?" LOL

Yes, I knew salt was a seasoning darnit.

That was quite entertaining. I don't even know where I would start with the soundtrack of my life. Probably most of mine would be Sibelius/Bach...damn Orchestra rehearsals!

Great post, Jay! I enjoyed that walk down memory lane. I'm a few years your senior, but many of your references are mine as well!

Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go was an unfortunate middle school jitter bug lesson in gym class. The fact that you were dancing to the same song at 3 in a recital makes me feel ancient!

Jay, this is one of the best posts you've put up. Wow. Hand me dancing down memory lane, too.

I absolutely LOVE numbers 15 and 21. I listened intently to Art singing Father of Mine. Whoa. I love anything he sing, but that piece can really make you ponder.

Just this life right now, so might as well dance.

I think the soundtrack of my life would make me look halfway cool, assuming I didn't date anything. Because then people would realize that anything I liked hadn't been cool for 3 - 8 years prior it catching my attention. Then again, the soundtrack of your life is suppose to by honest and not something you stitch together to look cool. Moral: I am overly concerned with my appearance.

What a great post. "Patricia the Stripper" LOL I used to have that song sung to me all the time when I was in lower school and high school, I think a few teachers even got into the act. As a result it is NOT my favorite song, but it sure brings back memories. Perhaps singing "Patricia the Stripper" is an Ottawa valley thing? I'm orginally from Ottawa but live in Toronto now.

I'm enjoying your site! I'll be back.

Ah. The NKOTB. Memories.

It wasn't until I was about 17 that I found out "The Archies" were actually a band that archie played in, and that song was written for the cartoon.

Damn, I feel old-- This is mostly "so high school" for me! lol.

Beautiful waltz down memory lane ala muzika. Delightfully written (and downright scary to remember how old I really am!!)

Hope your migraine has fled the coop for a while.

This is actually a great idea. Would you mind if I borrowed it for a Tell It To Me Tuesday sometime? I'd give you credit, of course.

Oh man Jamie...
you made me laugh until my sides hurt. I need to do something like this because you brought back too many memories. Your dance teacher sounds way cooler than mine. Ours had us do Tomorrow from Annie. Of course at that time I LOVVEEED it, I mean who wouldn't want to be a curly red headed orphan right?

What a great idea and a great post! And some great tracks (not that I know them all). Some not so great, but then one of my first sound-track memories would have to be Tubby the Tuba, so what can I say?

btw, sorry to hear you have sleep problems too.

Have you tried lettuce?

(no, really...)

What?
Your busdriver played music?
That is the most futuristic vehicle on Earth!

Cheerio Girl sounds like a cool idea for an ad campaign. It's probably not going to work now, though.

Was every girl on earth into Joey McIntyre? Little did you all know that Joey had the power to read your diaries from afar. He thrived on that energy.

I don't know if I could make a soundtrack to my life. There are quite a lot of songs that had an influence on me. Maybe someday...

Jaime. I am in love with the soundtrack to your life! And I'm so happy that I know all the songs, cuz it makes your stories more relateable you know? Anyways, awesome selections for an awesome post!

P.S. Did the bus driver really play cassettes? I thought they only had a radio up there...

She really did. Hers was the only bus I'd ever been on (and being a country dweller, I was bused to school an awful lot) that had a cassette player, and for some reason, she actually played what the kids wanted.

The Joey McIntyre obsession? Bang on.

I actually made a "soundtrack of my life" CD a few years back!--but I can't say that each song has such vivid and specific memories to go along with it (though some do). I did title it "Volume I" though, because I knew there'd be more to come!

Funny though, I also have some very specific boy-related memories that go along with "Jump Around"...

Oh my gosh, I love that you did this. But more than that, I love that you reminded me of the existence of Jesse and the Rippers. I was a little in love with Uncle Jesse for a while way back when...and am now inspired to go look for old Full House images.

yes, "cause we are living in a cheerio world and i am a cheerio girl / cheerio-oh-oh-oh"

An amazing history of 21 tracks. Your memory too is amazing !

I saw OLP in April 2000 (i think) at the ACC and I remember a fan singing at one point... that couldn't have been you, could it?? That's be too weird, lol!

Awesome tracks. WHen you compile the CD, sign me up to buy one! LOL.

I am halfway embarrassed to say I still have the huge pin-up book I got from A NKOTB concert.

Miss Em, while it WAS that very series, it was 2 months prior, Feb 2000, Ottawa.

Thanks for checking out my blog. I get a kick out of yours. The references to Cornwall and Ottawa strike a particular nerve with me. I remember stopping at Jack Lee's Chinese restaurant in Cornwall on the way to and from Ottawa from my hometown (Malone, NY). I miss those trips. I miss Ottawa... And although I don't miss it I remember the stench of the paper mill coming over the bridge from the US into Cornwall.

What a great idea. Don't feel bad, I too had a generic Walkman.

What a great soundtrack!

What a great idea, Jay! You make me feel so old!! LOL

But did the Beach Boys sing "Barbara Ann"? I thought it was The Capris. I have to look it up now.

What happened to Fucktard Friday?

That was fun to read. And I applaud your honesty in revealing that half the important songs of your life weren't hard-hitting classics, but bubble-gum songs of your youth. Tthe really important songs in my life would mostly be stuff I would be embarrassed to play now, like Hall and Oates.

I love that you had a unicorn diary. And I love Sugar Sugar. *wiggles a little*
