Talk to the Goat

congratulations, dad!!

Uh... we just don't know what to say.

The usage of vagina synonyms was certainly impressive. Nothing's baby-er than a momma's kooch.

This is excellent.
It's making me re-evaluate everything I know about that fucking lying bastard we call the stork.

Congrats! This post was awesome.

And at least we figured out some of the mystery you've been surrounding us with lately (yes it's all about us and never about you!) I'm still trying to figure out why you won't be living with Jason, but this was a really good post. Happy, funny and totally disgusting.

Congrats on being a dad! I do the Carlton dance, too. In the kitchen. In heavy, steel-toed clogs. I'm lucky I haven't broken an ankle yet.
I can't wait to see pics of your daughter.

I'm glad everything went well. Between your description and the discovery channel, I am never having a baby (but that means you gave a great description!).

Amazing story!! I was totally hooked the whole way. And congrats to you (Dad) and the Momma. What an amazing thing to witness.

awesome! Congratulations to Katie, good job Jamie, and happy birthday to the new Janie!

congrats to mom, dad and little janie!

This is a great post and you are a wonderful friend. Congratulations!

You sound like a proud papa!

Do we get to see Janie?

Congrats!! and Good job to *dad* too lol. What a special friend you are.

I was reading this and smiling because I just blogged yesterday about my daughter whos 16th bday it was yesterday. I had a c-section but I still remember the moment I bonded with her and how I felt.

Looking pretty good for someone who just had a sex change and a baby...!
Congrats to all three of you, that's fantastic news.

Awww! GOD!

What an amazing moment that must have been. The whole thing. A moment.

Congratulations, Katie!

Welcome to the world, Janie!

Way to go on the helping, Jamie!

Things will be interesting, to say the very least.

And now, I'm bursting with happiness for a complete stranger.

Birth. It's beautiful. It's disgusting. It's humbling. Hearing about it gives me hope, somehow. Especially when love surrounds it. Her.

And congrats to Jason, too, of course. He did do the driving...

Hurrah, hurrah! Welcome Janie!

Well, well, well, what an amazing surprise. You and Katie both did a fantastic job, obviously, but you know what? The fun is only just beginning!

Just FYI, on the third or fourth day nothing you say will be ok, ha ha. My mom told me my hair looked nice. Then she asked if I was gonna cry cause it had been 3 days. So I cried because that made me mad.

Just expect it, cause they NEVER put that in the books! It's like PMS from HELL.

Otherwise, CONGRATS. I am guessing the reason you and Jason are living seperately now is your going to stay with her for a while?

I also think you LIKE making your readers wonder!

Congratulations all around!

Now I'm even more curious!

Yay! Somehow your day seems much more fulfilled then mine.

As I share this birthday with the new love of your life, Janie Lee, I'll share this--when I was born all those many years ago, I was the same weight and just a titch longer (21 inches) than your new little girl.

Yes, I know, it's very self-indulgent of me. I'm done now.

Are Katie and baby going to move in with you and Jason now? You know, to keep the family together...

Lastly, I'm glad to hear the apparent marriage troubles you were teasing us with a couple posts back aren't true.

Congratulations to both, the new mom, the new bairn, and you! Wishing you much happiness!

Dude, that first paragraph had me freaked that I'd missed a MAJOR event in your life. Well, I had but not the one I thought I'd missed.

Are you handing out the cigars yet?

Go dad go! Sounds like you've got a fantastic friend, are a fantastic friend and Janie will never to without love (and no kid should). Congratulations!

Congratulations. She'll always be your first born! My godson is mine...

The kick you get when they go nutso just because you pulled up in the driveway is priceless. Enjoy!

congratulations

Congratulations to you and your friend! I dunno if I could handle that kind of pressure but it sounds like you were an awesome friend/dad. I'm sure the Carlton dance will come in handy for entertaining little Janie too.

Wow, you are the master of suspense! I didn't figure on this episode! Congrats, Dad!

Congratulations to the proud surrogate papa! Sounds like an amazing experience.

birth is crazy cool. i'd give birth again and again if only i didn't have to raise the resulting children. *sigh* anyone want a surrogate?

great post, jay. you're an excellent friend to experience that with katie.

THOSE are words 'failing you'? Uh-uh. Not by a long shot.
Congratulations, Dad!

(btw, a colleague of mine and his wife just adopted a baby girl from Oklahoma - they flew there from SF - and I sent them your post about your experience witnessing adoptions, and they just cried. In the good way. So, words certainly weren't failing you THEN, either.)

YAY! Congratulations! :D

glad the baby did not come via my birth canal..

happy baby..glad it didnt come out yours either, you dont need to deal with the pain..hehe

thanks for stopping by the other day, sorry it took me so long to come say hello, i will be back..

Congrats!!

YOU are the rare, dedicated type of friend that exists only in dreams.

I am very very happy for you!!

Awwww congratulations daddy! I'm sure you're going to make an amazing one

They serve cream soups for people like me who hate that the salad bar is always filled with wilty veggies.

As always you make an interesting and unique topic all the more interesting and all the more unique, Jay.

Congratulations.

Congratulations, 'dad'! It's a unique thing I've found today. It is rare.. and absolutely beautiful!

I guess there are not many like this.

And for that, this incredible post is chosen as the BLOG OF THE WEEK!

Congratulations, again...

I hope you like it, Jay...
Can't wait to see Janie Lee's picture

Love,
Adwina

Jesus - I think I need a smoke after that. Well done the two of you!!!

That's amazing! My daughter got to be a Dad too! I have only been on the Mommy end but would love to be watching instead of participating.

A mystery solved!!! HOORAY!!

CONGRATULATIONS! And WELCOME Janie Lee!! (which, I agree, is FAR superiour to Fanie Lee)

That brought tears to my eyes, so it had better be real or I'm going to be really mad.

You know how much I like babies, and even fetuses (though not so much foetuses as fetuses.) Well, I like brith stories, too. I love them, in fact. And this one rocks.

Congratulations again!! Tell Katie she rocks!

Wow, what an amazing story! Congratulations daddy.

I have never been so captivated by an account of childbirth.

Congratualtions! You are already a better dad than millions of kids ever have.

-- david

J congrats on having a new best friend. I'm sure Janie is going to love you to death.
You are a great friend to Katie when she needed you most. Awesome.

Thanks for the childbirth details..more graphic than the discovery channel.

Can't wait to see Katie and Janie pictures!

WOW. Congratz big time.
I'm happy for the both of you.

Too bad that your never going to sleep again

Congrats to her and to you. Birth is an amazing experience that I think everyone should be blessed to witness at least once.

That was one of the best birth stories i've ever heard. And I've heard a lot.

and you mock your writing ability *sigh* that sounds like a totally awesome experience for you, I reckon you'll make a great 'dad' katie couldn't have picked better. definitely pass on warmth and well wishes from the web to mother and child for me.

Oh Man!!! I'm so happy for you and your best friend.
Life is such a wonderful miracle, and trust me, this won't be something you'll forget about.
You'll be somewhere and smell something, and you'll think, 'that smells just like the hospital did when Janie was born'.
Things like that.
Oh man, you did a great job putting it into words.

Shit. I forgot to add, that you are a great friend, and Katie probably hasn't got the words to express her graditude to you.

This I know, my bestfriend was there for me when I had my daughter, and did all those things for me, and I could never quite describe just how much it meant to me. I am so happy that Katie has you in her life.

I'm trying to think of something to say. But I guess you have said it all. Great post. About as good as they get.

What a great story, Jay! And what an amazing friend you are.

I did professional labor support for a few years and witnessing a birth is by FAR the most incredible thing a person can do. Even GIVING birth isn't as cool, because you're too pre-occupied to notice everything that's happening.

I'm also so pleased because it appears she had no drugs or epidural. yay for her!! She couldn't have done it without you!

xoxo

Congrats! This has got to be the best story ever. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing it with us.

Wow, if that's what you're like when words fail you...

An amazing story! Great work supporting your friend!

No, she did it without drugs, but she wasn't completely opposed to them. She laboured really well...and well, I won't tell you about the exercises I had her doing for 4 months beforehand, but she wasn't torn at all, no stitches required, she was amazing.

How exciting! Can't wait to see pix (of the "after", not the "during")!

Congrats to the three of you! Does this mean I get to send you a Father's Day card?

I am so jealous of your experience. I have never had the job of dad! That would be so interesting. As long as your really good friends, because that is a lot to see! I wasn't even sure I wanted Brian to see, but we got through it. I'm so happy for your friend too. I love how you just have those mommy feelings and love the baby so much the minute they come into the world.

Daddy Jay!! Congrats to all involved, and what a sweetheart of a friend you are. We want pics!!!

You have been privileged. Do you know that? How lucky you are to be a part of that for your friend. Can you show us a picture of the baby?

Congratulations Jay. what a great post and what a great friend you are. Your writing inspires me. Of course I know I'll never have the talent for anything more than news-hackery and that makes me not want to blog because it would suck ... wait! I think I now have an excuse besides pure laziness! YEAH! Thanks Jay! By the way, if you two split up does she get half your shit? Just askin. Great story babe.
TG

You look funny scratching your balls and arranging your package, stop it. You know I love you and how proud I am, so.... Kisses sweet Jay and Katie and Janie. I will be in touch.

CONGRATS, i have to say you did something i never did, i never saw a birth before , just the TV stuff which is gross enough!!!

No father (even a proxy) is ever ready. Divine feeling, isn't it?

This is what they like to call a "feel good story". It's always nice to read one of those once and awhile. Congrats!

Hey papa! Are you passing out cigars?

A great delivery, Katie and Jay!

Damn am I getting in here late. Anyway, you did a better job than I did at the birth of our first child. They hooked the Wife up to that machine to measures contractions and all I managed to say was "Damn, that looked like a big one..." Luckily I was out of arm's reach. Plus I didn't remember a damn thing from those birthing classes.

If you need any advice on being a Dad, let me know. I got 10 years under my belt so I got lots of tips for you.

Tip number one: Everything you thought being a Dad would be like? Forget it, cause you're wrong.

Man, what a story! I am proud of you and how great you were during the birth. Must go pass out now. (Very descriptive!)

Congratulations!

Wow, since you put it like that, I'm glad that was all over with 19 years ago. Phew!

Congrats!

You are now fully qualified to write for medical journals. Sort of.

Congratulations!!!! the funny thing is that I know a few couples who are trying to conceive and have many problems and your friend hits it first time. Ironic.

So, you're a poppa? Congrats to you, and to your friend, of course! I'm not sure I could witness all of that without severe consequences. She was so very lucky to have you there. Guess this means you didn't get the Gevalia coffee maker, huh?

Congratulations!!!

You did so good, my daughter's birth is lost in the mists of time but you captured it all ... which actually wasn't all good for the old chick recovering from that hangover but even then it was beautiful.

I loved this post - really took me back to the 22 hours I laboured to get my LG out. She's now twelve and stroppy but was just exactly as you've described your new "daughter" by proxy.

well done.

Congrats to Katie.

Congrats Jay, that was absolutely disgusting and cool at the same time.

gawd,
that brings back such memories. I think I had that nurse from hell that you had. she blamed me for not remembering how to give birth properly. doh, i'd never done it before...

great post...

Regarding the title of your post--I never saw one I didn't like...

Hey, congratulations!!!!!! I can't even imagine how wonderful that experience must have been. You and Katie are soooo lucky. And Congrats to the mom, well done, well done.

AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE NEW BIRTHDAY GIRL, JANIE LEE, many years of love and happiness baby girl

Well done, both of you, all of you...I'm very glad about your surprise.

Hi. I came here from Lorna in Wonderland. That was a great post. You write very well. Just for that, I'm adding you to my blogroll.

Just wanted to tell you in writing, Jamie, how proud of you that I am. Although after reading this and your in-person stories, I'm having trouble looking Katie in the eye now, so thanks!
P.S: Thanks for mentioning me in the part about us in the car. If only I had a nickel for everytime I rushed you to the hospital

Congratulations! To oth Mommy and (Daddy?)

There is something so blessed and exciting about the birth of a new life! I'm happy you experienced in a role that is not necessarily that of our gender.

3T

Jason, I know, I'm sorry. You are so sweet that you now have 3 (or, 2 1/2) girls in your apartment, and all we can do is talk about the grossest parts of our anatomies and what wondrous things we have recently seen them do.

Janie is incredible, and so quiet! She's not at all like her mom so far

Yes, I am giving out cigars, though I am dying for one myself lately and not indulging because I don't want to smoke near the baby. Hah. I'm instantly lame.

Jay, you will always be my friend because you make amazing brownies, and I don't know of any better qualification for BFFs, do you?

But seriously, Janie and I love you so much for helping us. Even though I called you a bitch when you were holding my leg in the air. I didn't mean it, really. I think birth makes you crazy.

I will never forget the look on your face when you cut the cord.

Jason, you were the best hall-pacer ever. Sorry you had to see more of me than you probably wanted to. Thanks for sneaking in the milkshake.

Kim, your advice was invaluable, as it turns out.

Everyone here: thank god I don't ever have to look y'all in the eye...Jay is super good at dishing the most intimate details, isn't she? Thank god for the brownies...

but it wasn't until a couple of weeks ago when I was happily grooming her twat that I realized our friendship had entered a whole different level. YA THINK?

Congratulations to you, Katie, and Janie

And thanks for the chunk of realism as you saw it, in the delivery room.

Best post ever! Congratulations to you Dad and Mom of course! Welcome to this crazy world little Janie. BTW Dad, I think you wrote perfect descriptions. And no, I don't eat cream soups from hospitals. ewww.

I'm so happy for all of you!

that was beautiful. katie's beautiful. janie's beautiful. and you're the most beautiful dad. ever.

Congrats to all of you. It sounds like Janie will have a family who loves her and that is definately what a baby needs. Have fun and enjoy - it goes by so quickly!

Wow, what an exceptional story! Those are two very lucky girls to have you there for the support. And in return, you got to see something miraculous. Congrats, everyone.

CONGRATULATIONS!

What a wonderful moment. I'm not sure how Katie feels about it, but thanks for letting us all be there.

I am expecting my 4th in november. it is amazing and it does not stop being amazing. even when cub scouts start.

I agree with the kid who posted about the discovery channel. Your post was very detailed and that's what made it special. I hope you are enjoying the little one. However, like the previous poster....I may not want to have babies for a while either.

Congrats Dad!

Sweet... you KNOW you're closer than friends when you've "groomed" each other in the name of parenthood.

Congrats on "daddy"dom and I wish you all joy ~
