Talk to the Goat

ugh

Well I'm officially jealous - I haven't seen snow (and I mean REAL snow) since I moved to CA, and I sort of miss it. :-/

Just keep taking those deep breaths; you'll make it.
You should probably stop the deep breaths in January. You wouldn't want to freeze your lungs.

Notta, maybe we should meet for that drink at my place, so you can enjoy the snow?

Very pretty writing. And snowwas really pretty for me, I think, until I had to shovel it, plow it and drive in it. I gave it up gladly.. But it's beautiful how you described it.

C'mon Jay. Don't hole back. Tell us how you really feel. LOL It was only 78 degrees (farenheit) in Louisiana today. I worked a little on my tan. See ya in the spring!
TG

Fucking snow here, too. I feel your pain.

Snow already? Damn. It's super sunny here in Vancouver. No rain yet, we're quite lucky so far this fall.

*knock on wood*

Snow?! In freaking October! Jeez, I'd have to slash my wrists. My sympathies, Jay.

I miss snow. I miss blizzards that piled foot upon foot of snow at my front door forcing me to stay home, slip into my fuzziest socks and most cozy pj's. I miss having nothing to do all day but make snowmen and have snowball fights and then coming in to have hot cocoa just to unfreeze my nose.
I hate that my kids don't get that.
I miss that perfectly cold intake of breath when I step outside; clean, crisp, alive. I miss seeing my world blanketed in this perfect quiet, then seeing it melt to give way to new life, blooming flowers, fresh starts.

I miss snow.

No, you don't.
You miss the romantic idea of snow.
5 minutes of trying to force a shovel through 4 feet of snow with frostbitten fingers will cure you of that real quick.

Oh, please send some snow to me in Texas! Please!!

Wait... you did send us this thing we call a "cool front" today. Thanks -- it dropped a good 20 degrees (still way above freezing though).

But snow? Haven't seen the stuff in years. It's white, right? Oh yea, when we get it here there's a great celebration of people crashing their automobiles into each other. It's actually quite funny to watch the smaller cars try to climb the steep hills, and slide backward into a ditch, and then four cars behind them do exactly the same thing.

Ah yes... snow makes for good comedy here in Texas. Bring it on!

Ah so it got ya there did it? We're still looking at green grass out here but I can't imagine that will last long. It's pretty chilly out there!

Snow... heh... I'm on my way home to a warm spring day in Sydney... frigging 95 degrees balmy... If I had my choice I'd settle for SF's sunny 72...

Hmph... guess there's always better weather somewhere else...

Maybe it's the optomistic Tucsonan in me, but...what's so bad about snow? Isnt it supposed to be some sort of magical and sparkly sorta thing?

I was hoping you'd say frogs... because that would be so Magnolia.

I know! It snowed so freakin' much today. Practically a little blizzard. I'm glad today is my day of no classes. I remember it was sunny and rather warm at this time last year.
Is it going to be a white Hallowe'en?

Aw, but the first snow!! You've got to remember it as a kid, that giddiness, like Christmas is now just..around..the corner!!

Maybe it's just 'cos I'm a winter baby, but snow, ah, snow, sucks to drive in, a bitch to run on but still, there will always be that magic, most especially with the season's first snow.

We are very familiar with snow down here in Houston. In fact, we get it at least once every ten years.

Happy Winter? I guess?.....
well, maybe not..

snow's one of the main reasons i moved away from michigan. first to l.a., then to n.c. my folks (on lake michigan) got snow yesterday, and here it was a balmy 75. it helps me to enjoy the nice weather knowing there is snow somewhere in the world and I'M NOT IN IT.

I had the same experience yesterday! I went to the end of my driveway to fetch the garbage can that the bastard collectors carelessly threw in the street (omg I just hate them) and on the way back towards the house, I got hit in the eye by a fucking snowflake. I raged at the sky and the whore mother nature (omg I just hate her) and shook my fist in fury, but the shit just kept coming. Winter is here in Ohio (omg I just hate winter) and I'm not happy about it at all.

Hi Jay Thanks for visiting my blog.

I'm so not ready for snow. I'm in New England, so I never know what the weather will bring us, but I'm hoping snow holds off for a long time.

As I was about to leave the apartment, I looked out and saw the beautiful stuff falling. i knew the run was going to be a good one - it began with snow.

WOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO!

But I feel bad for the Buffalonians.

Snow..I've almost forgotten what that looks like, and I live in the midwest we get the fucking ice..

WOW, It's cool when you say it, but I still hate snow.

Poor Buffalo. I suppose you've heard by now. It's a record. And my coworker's flight was supposed to get in last night. I wonder where he is now, and I wonder how he's going to get to his car which is parked in Buffalo.

Anyway, beautiful writing!

I prefer visiting the snow, rather than having it hunker down with me for a whole season (or two!)

The first time I experienced snow I was 18, and I couldn't wait to get outside and dance around it in. Everyone humored me, waiting for the inevitable. WHAM! once I was down on my ass, I had a better understanding of their love/hate relationship.

if it's too early for you and Jason to deal with it, come on over to SF - this is about the most beautiful time of year, here!

Hey, were in Canada. You should be used to that bullshit by now.

I had Middle and Youngest at the pool, some little brat pulled the fire alarm. 30 kids and parents had to exit the building and stand in the snow waiting for the all clear to go back in. I took my girls to the car, turned on the heat and the radio.

ugh. snow. it's not even the end of October yet! my sympathies.

Not just fucking snow... a fucking BLIZZARD! I want to know how that happens in mid-October. Who decides these things?!

Having moved to the south I miss the snow. I don't like to drive in it but I like to see it falling outside my window while I'm toasty and warm inside.

You said it best at the end.

Fucking snow.

Isn't amazing that the people who rhapsodize the most about the beauty of the newly fallen snow are the ones who don't have to worry about shoveling the shit out of the driveway and off the sidewalks? Sure, give me beach chair surounded by sand with a view of the ocean and a margarita in my hand and I'll tell you how wonderful snow is too. Fuckin snow is right, and fuckin southerners too.

Everybody who says they want snow? Liars. Either liars, or deluded.

Everyone who says "Oh, first snow!"? Obviously deluded. Because the first snow is not supposed to come on October fucking 12. Possibly by Halloween if you live by the Great Lakes, but even that is totally cruel and unnecessary.

The only time snow is good: if you don't have to go to work, don't have to go shopping, don't have any place to be, and can enjoy it in front of a roaring fire with the promise that you won't have to shovel it because someone else *will*.

Thank god. I thought I was the only Ontarian who freaked the fuck out when it happened last night. Oh, and where I am, its snowing right now too. Fucking snow, man, fucking snow.

Haha - you guys are great! Anyone who romanticizes snow obviously doesn't live in it!

Lucky! I love the snow. But only when I'm inside. I hate it if I have to stand in it or drive in it. Otherwise I love it!

Didn't you'll set a record for the earliest snow in history?

ahhhh I'm glad you got it before us.. here on the east coast of Canada it's balmy and warm... 17 degrees over night.. downright hot to be exact.. but no fear.. the cold stuff is coming .. I know it.. but for now.. you can keep it.. OK? And this is what I saw on my walk this morning.. gotta love it...

I remember Ontario winters (shiver). Enough that I'm quite happy to stay here in BC. Hi Jay!

thank goodness we're not in the snow belt, gah!

Ah, so you got some of the white stuff already. Lucky lucky you. I'm just relieved that you're the lucky one and not me.

yup, same here..(in Kitchener). Today was so cold thedogs didn't even want to go out....Gee, can't wait for winter to hit.

I hate fucking snow too. Snow is evil like Tigger.

I thought too myself, "so soon?" Then I remembered, "Ah, Canada."

Sorry Hon.

I love snow, but I have never lived any place where it was a problem. Probably why I love it.

to get your mind off it, why don't you do my tag?

I'm sooooooooooooooo not ready for snow yet!

You can make snow with your mind?

Awesome.

i apologise.

wow, that was really poetic rain!

I always said that someday, after years of putting up with blizzards in the northeast I'd pack up all my shit and tie a snow shovel onto the front of my truck and continue to drive around until someone asked what was tied onto my truck.

If they didn't know what a snow shovel was, that's where I'd want to live.

By the way, should I mention it was 78F (25.5C) and 60% humidity today?

Yeah, I'd heard you folks were having an early winter. We've been having an early summer (30+ daytime temps) and enjoying it about as much as you enjoyed your snow. FWIW the beloved lived in Chicago and Washington DC and he loves snow, and misses it terribly.

Snow! What the hell? We haven't gotten any here on the East Coast, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time.
I hope we don't get much. My new roommate has taken to passing out in the backyard. I don't want her to become a popsicle.

I was pissed about that too. I sat here going NOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo. fucking. snow.
I hate it.

Snow? In October? Oh and by the way Jay, your man's post rocked

haha be grateful you don't live in thunder bay.

definitely not jealous.

i imagine it'll be over here soon - although we appear to be having an Indian summer.

Wow. We haven't even had snow in Helsingborg yet. Something to look forward to (big NOT).

Aw, snow in October. Trust me, that's better than rain in October, rain in November, rain in December, rain in January, rain in February, rain in March, etc. etc. etc. etc....

shhhhhhh...it's snowing!

Oh snow eh? I;m sitting here sweating wearing a tank top. NEH NEH..seriously you had me on the edge of my seat for a sec...

ahhh ... one of the brave first snowflakes to strike out onto its own. you've got to give up the respect.

e+

oh nooooooo. Too early for snow, even in Canada.

We don't get it often enough.
But in OCTOBER ???

Snow really is Satan's dandruff. Ugh. Thank god for Global Warming.

OMG !

Is it snowing there? I need some, jay ! It is burning hot in Africa.

I came also to say that I am back.

Snow???.......oh no!!

Snow already? Sounds to me like you thought about that rain a little too hard.

another reason to live in the south. if we get a 1/4 inch of snow they shut the city down till it melts.

your writing is very visual, and i am sure that your thought waves initiated the rain. maybe it was your icy coolness that crystalised the raindrops? thanks for dropping in the other day

It was poetic up until your last line there. Then reality walloped me in the head.

I love snow! Can't wait until we get our first snowfall of the year. I'm weird, what can I say?

poor Jay - feel free to pass it this way, make my hubby stop complaining that we don't get enough lol

Could be worse: you could have been in Buffalo at the time (worse because more snow and also: it's Buffalo). I hear they got rammed with it.

Ottawa, on the other hand, has been entirely snow free so far.

Yeah, that won't last.

OOOO!!! I love snow! It looks so light and fluffy on t.v.

*ducks*

Weird when things like that happen. I dreampt of a huge, huge, crashing wall of water on the Christmas night that Tsunami hit.

I just burst out laughing reading this. Thanks.

Is that early? We have a drought down here. Pretty worrisome.
