Talk to the Goat

Damn! Glad you had a great time, Jay.

I'll have to check out Hawksley's stuff (meaning his music).

I too am happy you had a great time, though I have never heard of either of these bands. I guess I have research to do.

Though maybe the Stills were being uber cool by not knowing where they were

I like this.

it's so easy to get laid playing maracas!

sneak up, and whack 'em...
(bad taste I know, but it possibly the only way)

Still sounds like you had a fine time.
You deserve it, that's for sure.

Btw, thanks for the visits/comments.
You are always welcome

That sounds like such a fantastic night. I'm glad you blogged in such detail. For yourself more than for us. You can always remember things better when you've got a cue to go on.

Well obviously, I have to check your BF out, Jay. Thanks for the insight.

Thanks for the insight...I'll be checking out your man!

My fave Hawksley songs are 'Even an ugly man' and 'We will still need a song'. There are so many great Canadian artists that most people have never heard of. I did a post a few months ago talking about Our Lady Peace and The Tragically Hip, and hardly NO one knew who I was talking about. Wtf? I couldn't believe it. Maybe I'm stuck in my own little world up here. Another great band (well that I love anyways) is Wintersleep. You've probably heard of them...and the lead singer is H-O-T.

I just wrote a huge comment, but I think I hit preview instead of publish and closed the window. Crap.
Anyways, I love Hawksley Workman...my 2 fave songs are 'We will still need a song' and 'Even an ugly man'. There are lots of other great Canadian artists that aren't very well known other than here. I wrote a post a few months ago about Our Lady Peace and The Tragically Hip, and hardly NO one knew who they were. I was shocked. They are 2 of my favourite bands. I must be living in my own little world or something.

Any Michigan appearances on the horizon?

CRAP! Sorry about whoring up your comments. I guess I posted twice. I can't do anything right this morning. I'm leaving now.

Sounds like a great night!

This loser went to bed E-A-R-L-Y and finally got a good night's sleep. Yawn!

what kind of show starts on time?

You know, I've never thought of that myself in all my years of concertgoing, but you've made me realize that NONE of them have ever started on time.

the world needs more good bands and less crappy videos. glad you found one.

There's nothing finer than being a part of the energy to a great concert by a favourite band/performer! When I experience that, it truly moves my soul.

Wow Jay your description of the night made me feel like I was there! I love love love Hawksley, he is one of my favs of all time. I've seen him perform 3 times all in very different venues. One big stage show, one small college bar show and a theatre show where it was just him and his buddy playing the piano! They were all amazing. He has the most amazing stage presence, I get chills just thinking about him. I love how he connects with the audience, makes you feel like the most important people in the world. I can't wait to see him again.....Glad to hear you had a great night, that the rain stopped, and no one got electrocuted!

Ehhhhh, you don't really hate all music, do you?

I guess I'll have to listen to more of his stuff. He's ok, but man, people just rave about him and I guess I just haven't gotten it yet. He doesn't "bowl me over", he's not bad, maybe it's me and I just have to listen more.
Give me Emily Haines or Amy Millan anyday: - )
I'm a bit like you, Jay, the more something gets hyped up, I tend to shy away, because nothing ever lives up. And this guy is definitely hyped, whether or not he deserves it.
I do like "You and the Candles"

I had to stop and ask myself wait a minute at the top when you said you went to see your boyfriend. I had to ask myself isnt she married and realized you didnt mean it literally. LOL... Glad to hear you had fun though.

I don't know that much about your boyfriend, although I do like "Anger is Beauty" a lot. I've heard a few Stills songs but can only recall one: "Destroyer." Which, in fact, I may be wrongly attributing to The Stills. Well, whoever sings that song, they're pretty rockin'.

Joni Mitchell!!! That beret wear smoking, sitting on a bench in Montreal and reading poetry type person. She makes me realize that Bruce Cockburn isn't all that bad. Oh and a tip Bruce (pun intended) take the work Cock out of your name.

Oh I'm glad you have a good time.

SO jealous of your good time. I always wanted to dance on a bench like no one was looking. I have to check them out.

Never heard of the guy *ducks to avoid the WHAT! being blasted at me*

In my defense though.. I don't get out much..

Marriage is a terrible reason to stop dating.

yeah, no decent rock concert starts on time.
and truly, a good rock show definitely can restore the soul. glad you had a good time.

hahahhaha the maracas- pussy percussion
ahhh you make me laugh J...you make me laugh.

Personally- I LIKE the Maracas. It makes me feel so Carmen whatever her face.

I'd never heard of Hawksley Workman - I just listened to Smoke Baby and now I have to get some of this stuff for my iPod! Thanks Jay!

Threre are concerts that are dependent on the ones your with and there are those that don't. Sounds (or at reads) like this was an experience that could have been the latter. Though I'm sure you had company.

I've never heard of them either...must check them out!

Try to cheer up, Jay!

I WILL be checking him out. Thank goodness for Limewire.

wow, "is she really going out with him?"

cool post, I'm off to search iTunes.

Hope things are ... ok.... with jason.

Sounds like a good time Jay.

As far as the condo dwellers....there's always someone close by ready to ruin all the fun.....except in your case, sounds like they couldn't contain it

Sounds like fun. And you used the underrated phrase, "Canadian Icon."

Rock on, gf!

Jay, you crack me up. I look so forward to reading your blog. You are a fabulous writer... PLEASE keep up the writing. I look forward to one day attending a book signing for your latest book...

I am so glad to see that you had a great evening out and with good music too!

I am so lost on music...this coming from someone who used to work with music people! My family is from Montreal...yay!

That's great!

But really, when the event host yelled that you should have yelled at the top of your lungs:

"RAFFI!"

You also should have taken a video of that and posted it on YouTube.

i'd planned on going to this show, but i think i was scared off by the cold blustery weather. glad to hear it was fun!

Hawksley Workman is amazing! Smoke Baby is so hot. We Will Still Need A Song has an amazing music video. Check it out on youtube!

I'm glad you had fun last night.

Down Girl! Down!

I married a bassist (day job: programmer). Let's just say he has very strong fingers. I'm happy with that! (wicked grin) :>

As for the commentary about Maracas. There's a difference between a "drummer" and a "percussionist". A drummer only knows how to play drums. A "Percutionist" is an aficionado of rhythm in it's form. It's one of the primary reason I like rain so much.
-P

I have their CD. It's a very cool album indeed. I wouldn't have gone to watch them given the opportunity but your recommendation is taken into account. I had no idea they were Canadian. I have to say that Canada is breeding some pretty good bands. My favorite band at the moment is Arcade Fire, they're awesome, I'm watching them this summer at the Leeds Festival.

I'm always looking for new music. Thanks Jay!

Though I haven't heard of them, I so get that feeling of seeing someone you love in concert. While I wouldn't call BB King my boyfriend, it certainly remains in the top 3 of highlights of my life!

I am sorry I didn't know! I am ready for my forty lashes. :*(

joni, yeah

That sounds like an awesome time! I can't tell you the last time I went to a concert. I think it was the first Planet-Fest in Jacksonville. All I know is that they're on 8 or 9 now, so it's been way too long.

being a total music lover you have me totally intrigued with the Hawksley man! which album do I start with?

Actually, right now I am highly anticipating his next one, which he apparently had just finished recording mere moments before the concert...he seems to be kind of a writing prodigy, always doing them quickly.

I never heard of him before, but I am listening to some of his stuff on My Space now. That cigarette song totally reminds me of David Byrne.

I have heard and enjoyed the Hawksley songs you listed.

BTW: That dude from Crappy Degrassi? My Mom knows his Mom. I know, I'm just too cool.

Your boyfriend is in a band? I am suitably impressed!

last night... Well, let me think...I beat up my piano while the pooch did some light howling. We're also musical, my pooch and I. Although the neighbours might not think so.

groupie!

I WAS THERE! It looks like we were at opposite sides of the stage tho. And I was there for the Stills

never heard of him but i sure have read alot about this festival the past few days. glad you had a good time

Never a dull moment!

Com' on honey - hop out' a' th' bed and write a new post, will' ya?

hee-hee. I'm glad that I'm finally up to blog-surfing...yours words are always worth the read time. Glad to see things are cool with you!

Ain't music a wonderful thing! On my way to check out Workman now.........

Wow. Sounds like a fantastic evening. There is nothing like the energy of a live concert.

I will check out Hawksley. Thanks for the great post, and he should really thank you, too.

next...

why the hell did i put that there?
great i'm losing it in blog land.

gimme that next back, that should be elsewhere....

still, once again, looks like you had fun

cya around....

Sounds like a fun time! I love concerts at Harbourfront. Had I known earlier, we would have checked it out.

Weird, the Stills just played at this bar called Tom and Jerry's, right down the street from my house on Friday night ... I have one of their albums - not a bad band.

Aw, charming to see you're so passionate for him. That is sweet and beautiful.

I like his music too, but I don't own any of it. I wonder why that is?

Deep down I knew there's a problem with only going to folk and alt-country gigs. The singers always have abundant facial hair and are stoned (same with the audience). But sexy? Vibrating? Group orgasm? No. Definitely not.

Good times, keep it up.

A new dig, I'll have to give them a perusal.

Cheers

once again good reading
