Post your Monggo Note!

is that 1x2gb or 2x1gb?

i have here 1x2gb and a i'm hesitant to install it.

same model acer aspire 4310...

thanks!

Thanks

it's 1x2gb. I installed it myself.

hmmm... ok will install it this coming weekend. so your current installed memory is 2.5gb? right?

weird according to acer website this model can only handle 2gb maximum, meaning 1gb each slot. interesting....

Actually it's possible that different markets have different versions of the 4310. In the Philippines, for example, this model's got a 1.6GHz processor and just 80GB of harddrive (mine has 1.73GHz and 120GB). So it's possible that RAM capacity may differ as well.

Also, there was a problem when I was installing the 2GB and 512MB modules- the system could detect only 2GB. I talked to an Acer technician and he said that it's a known case. He said that there's also an instance where the customer installed 2x2GB in the 4310 but the system detected only 3.2GB. He said Acer's coming up with a BIOS update to correct this, which they will roll out soon. I hope VERY soon.

But then again, it's also possible that my version could actually handle just 2G max. But that's still okay for me.

So why don't you try installing the 2 modules and let's see what happens?

Well actually 2gb is the limitation of the intel 943 mobile chipset(acer 4310), the 940 it's big brother can handle 4gb...

As for the 3.2gb issue, it's not the limitation of the system but the limitation of the OS, 32bit windows(Xp and Vista) can only detect 3.2gb but the 64bit version can detect the whole 4gb.

anyway i tried 2gb and it's working alright but when i tried to add 512 it won't boot.

By the way....

My laptop also has a 1.7ghz(530 celeron) 120gb hdd and 1gb(2x512) Ram

Lastly.....If you're a little bit adventurous, you can intall Mac OS Leopard on this laptop....

oh really? that's cool! how'd you make Leopard work on a PC? i'd like to try...

By the way, I also had the same problem at first, couldn't make the system boot with both modules inside. I brought the notebook to Acer service center and they were able to make it work (dunno how, forgot to ask). But again, the problem was the system could only detect 2GB. So I chose to remove the 512MB. Maybe the BIOS update they told me about would resolve the problem.

Wait, since you said the 940 mobile chipset could handle 4GB, can we just simply install the 940 driver to make it work?

940/945 are chips that are built in, installing chipset driver won't do the trick.

Sure i'll gladly guide you how... you can even dual boot Xp and Leopard, but of course you need an Os X Leopard install disc. And i know where to get it, but i can't just post my email publicly.

By the way we call it "Hackintosh", here is a screen shot of my "Hack"
