Ummm...how do you make this look so easy? Those bags are so cute! You know, you should etsy them, for the less craftily-minded peeps out there. I'm going to "borrow" my mom's sewing machine as soon as I get back to civilization in May!

Lovely!
If anyone wanted to avoid fitting the sides to the bottom, you could also just take two rectangles, fold them in half and sew the bottoms and sides, and then square off the bottoms by sewing a triangle across each bottom point.
Oh...that makes no sense without a picture, does it? Nevermind! It's a more wasteful than your method, anyway.
I love seeing what everyone makes these in...

Great tutorial! Inspiration to get out the sewing machine and use some of the nice fabric I have stashed away. The more fabric I use and the more drawstring bags I give as gifts, the more room there is for yarn!

Thank you for this well-written tutorial! I like it how you use the opening of the two fabrics (where you pulled the inside out) as the entry to the channel for the cord. This looks good and is nicer to handle in compare to having to close the opening in a neat way and to make an opening for the cord at the side. I hope this makes sense what I am writing (English is not my mother tongue).

WooHooooo! The exact tutorial I have been looking for! I just started sewing in December and this is awesome! Going to make one tonight. Question...where do you find the double cord stops for the drawstring though? I made a bag (not reversible) already and I can not find the cord stops anywhere. You can email me...that would be great!

Your bag is adorable! Thanks so much for posting the great tutorial. I have been eager to make a bag for myself, but after searching for several weeks I still have not been able to locate a double cord stop. Can I ask where you found yours? I especially like that you used a clear one, and I had hoped to find one like it.
Thanks for your help!

Great tutorial! I have a couple of tiny suggestions - additions? - that I've made when building mine. A) putting a 5x5 piece of plastic canvas in between the layers on the bottom seems to help the bag stay upright when I'm knitting out of it, and B) sewing a little coordinating pocket onto each of the layers before putting them together leaves me with a place to stash stitch markers, etc.
Now please excuse me - I'm off to make more of your bags!

Several people have asked me where I got my drawstring stops--I'm pretty sure it was here:
http://www.pacifictrimming.com/
I was wandering the garment district in NYC when I found them, hence the 1% doubt that this was the exact spot. But if it was them, they had a nice assortment. Not sure if they do mail order, but perhaps?
Hope that helps!

Thank you for a great tutorial! I have tried every trick I can think of, but I cannot make it print beyond the first page. When I Print Preview, it looks as if the subsequent pages are behind the first page, and the printer doesn't capture it. Do you have any suggestions? I'm pretty computer savvy, so I don't think its me. Thanks!

Thanks so much for the great tutorial - with your photos it was a piece of cake! Pulling the one bag through the other sort of blew my little mind at first, but I worked it out. I made one as per the pattern, and then another one a bit longer/taller to accomodate long pull-skeins. Works great to disguise my yarn in motion from my cat...

AM I retarded? Every time I make one of these adorable bags, my "rectangle" doesn't make it entirely around the "square." It's always a few inches short. When I do the math, it seems to me that the square should be smaller. 6 x 4 (the perimeter of the square) is 24 inches, so how could a 21-inch long rectangle go around somtething with a 24 inch perimeter? It can't. It can only go to 21 inches, and then you're 3 inches short on fabric. Am I the only one that is having this problem??? Is there something very obvious that I can't see??????
