Gravatar well written, most people myself included feel the same way you did when you started looking at politics and government in regards to how it is run today.

everyone in politics today feels that they know what our founding fathers meant, but they are really injecting their own perspective on the subject.

Gravatar Hello Jezla,

Very well said. I'm not an American, but a Canadian.

I became interested in the last few months in reading about the fathers of the constitution. So far, I've read, biographies of: Benjamin Franklin,Thomas Jefferson,Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, John Adams.

With your good advice, I'll add "Alexis de Tocqueville's Democracy in America."

Thanks again for mentionning it.

Marie

Gravatar Thanks for the comments. Marie, I'd also recommend reading The Federalist. It is a collection of essays published by Hamilton, Madison, and John Jay in support of the Constitution. These essays make the case for a strong federal government of defined, limited powers. It explains many of the articles of the Constitution. Hamilton's prose might be difficult for some, but all the essays are worth reading.
