I am sure you are so excited about this non-sense piece. The only problem with it, none of these groups, with the exception of the small group Kent Sate, my bad, Tent State, ever worked with R-68. The RMPJ Center the AFSC, The Greens, The Students for Peace and Justice were never part of R-68, so when they reportedly "left" R-68 it caused a zero drop in our groups. More Liberal BS to try to convience people that there is going to be a scaled down protest at the Convention, keep dreaming.

Gravatar no

Gravatar Man, a $335,000 home in the Denver suburbs? Why am I so stupid? Why did I not realize earlier what a great job hating America could be?

Is it too late for me to get on board guys? Here goes: "America is a big bad poopy, and dialectic proletariat... proliterate... proletariate... (fuck it, you know what I mean) poor people and stuff rock. And corporations suck and killed buffalo. Also, antibiotics are stupid and caused AIDS."

Now I'm not claiming that that's worth anywhere CLOSE TO $300 grand, but I should at least be able to get one of those refrigerators that spits out crushed ice. Man, I love me some crushed ice...

Gravatar Ummmmm, crushed ice . . .

Gravatar Seriously, it is perhaps the most overt testament to the greatness of America that Guys like Glen and Churchill are allowed to live there, within the country's borders, and reach (at least) upper-middle class status just by talking trash about the very nation that provides them with the freedom to do so.

It's also ironic that, had Churchill been a little less greedy, he could have found plenty of well-documented instances of malfeasance to opprobriate. He's just like the dumb greedy shits at Enron who couldn't get enough. Like them, it wasn't enough for Churchill to succeed, he also had to get away with something, just to show how much smarter he was than everyone else.

A wise man--I believe it was Wesley Snipes--put it thusly: "There's always some motherfucker trying to iceskate uphill."

Gravatar Let the normal non-sense virtual arguments to begin. And let it to begin with me.

Gravatar So Glenn is living in a $335,000 suburban house as a sacrifice to The Cause? How positively Ghandi-esque of him.

Gravatar You couldn't buy a garage in my current overpriced, newspaperless Santa Barbara for $335K.
Everything is generally moving according to the schedule forecastable since winter. Among people coming from out of state, there will be a bunch of issue groups such as anti-abortion which never fit under an umbrella, and ~500-1000 out of work&school young travelers - just like the Boston convention. It is already clear that the 2004 DNC deserved more attention, and in retrospect, any noise in 2008 will appear more than justified, given the misery about to be dumped on the working class and the roots of this in actions democrat Clinton 42 did in his term. Most of the antiwar and economic concerns crowd are going to Minnesota. Our society also is privileged and unique in having a nonviolent political tradition due to our MLKJr day etc.(contrast that to the water cannons and car burning rituals in france and germany). Finally, we have the paradox , strongly reinforced at recent antiwar protests with 150,000+ people in large cities, that the media and government totally ignore nonviolent marches and rallies, and give more coverage to one or two counterprotesters or hyperactive people doing a stunt. http://www.indybay.org/newsitems...01/ 15789931.php
Given this reality, it is of utmost strategist sense to stage a pro-wrestling type theater, where we currently are in the pre-show hype stage. Thank you for doing your part in your blog, jgm. At least 40% of the hoped for political impact will come from media coverage creating an atmosphere and informing people that the democrats don't get a free ride. There are a whole bunch of things likely to happen in July and August that could outweigh the conventions which will be forgotten in a week, from a likely stock market downcycle, layoffs, olympics china stuff; that week I wouldn't even show up, and would go do something creative and fun in another neighborhood: http://www.ibikeu.com/wiki/ index...raffic_Jam_Ride
http://www.softskull.com/detaile...ok.php? isbn=237

By the way... the focus on the same three leftists in all those articles makes your city look very uneventful - a place where everyone stays at home drinking to American Idol. This isn't the case, but it likely stems from layoffs at the newspapers, which is another industry about to crater for the next two years. So the remaining journalists must get an hour to type up each story so they look up previous articles and call up Glenn S. for an update. http://graphicdesignr.net/blog/p...log/paper-cuts/ Blogs are replacing newspapers, but unfortunately many just post quotes from the few remaining newspapers and don't do new research.

Gravatar Just thought I would let you know that Code Pink and the Colorado Street Medics, the only two groups out of the bunch that are working with us and over 100 other groups, have contacted the Post and asked for a retraction. They have not "split". As for the Greens, they were never brought up to me nore were the other groups or you can bet I would have said something. I know the truth does not matter much to you, but I thought I would let you know anyway. Also if you want a picture of the indigenous person who was bloodied up at the Columbus Hate Speech protest, I can provide you that even though you will not print it.

P.S.
Tell Ernie to give up using NOJ as a name already we all know he is, the kidnapper of Anna Mae, the one who lead to her murder. I may not be considered peaceful, but at least I do not go around kidnapping and murdering innocent people Noj, Ernie, what ever the voices in your head are telling you to call yourself. I told you to up the meds buddy, up the meds, that will silence the voices!

Gravatar Glenn, I'll post the Post's retraction when I see it. I'll post that picture, too, if you'll be so kind as to send it. Pretty sure I've already seen it though, so be ready for more mockery.

Hilda, you are the crown jewel in the Try-Works/R68/Churchill diadem.

Gravatar Recreate 68 sounds a lot like what seems to be happening with the Republic of Lakota. Canupa apparently got caught trying to use the movement as his private cash cow and a schism ensued. Now Spagnuola gets outed as a boomer on the make with a MacMansion in reserve.

Anyway, Spagnuola and Whitmer are having a lot of trouble just coming out and saying they hoping for any opportunity to fight the Pigs. Whitmer (that champion Pig Fighter) in particular, wants his RIGHT to Pig fighting to be acknowledged by all, previous to any action. Apparently, that’s the way of heroic Pig Fighters—not wanting to get into any trouble. Is Whitmer planning to bring his own children and elders to witness his prowess?

Then Recreate 68 went and got exonerated. Middle class anarchy isn’t as easy as it seemed—heavy weighs the yoke of oppression on dainty shoulders.

Gravatar "Is Whitmer planning to bring his own children and elders to witness his prowess?"

Good question.

Gravatar Spags, you're not considered a lot of things. Among those—offhand—we can add honest, intelligent, and literate.

Gravatar Heroic Pig Fighters: yet another great name for a rock band.

Gravatar That is a good one.

Gravatar I think if there is fighting, Spagnoodles and Whitmer will run away and let the kids get hurt.

It's the way of those people.

Gravatar JM - maybe he's talking about the recent unprovoked bashing in Columbus OH, although no, maybe not. That was a middle aged person, and I don't think his circle is connected to the Longest Walk II group.

My elderly aunt had to dodge this police riot in Colo spgs with her oxygen tank. It's not that unforeseen that the aggression will be entirely one sided. http://www.lukemelia.com/blog/ar...lorado-springs/

Gravatar Hilda is even less coherent than usual.

Gravatar Kevin, are you covering the convention?

BTW, Dennis banks was promoting, yet not running the Longest walk? The regular participants sound fine.

with regards to recreate 68, I think the name is great, but it's understandable that there is a lack of historical education about the tremendous positive change during that period. If you are into Civil War reenactments, as some people around here might, you may disagree. Campbell Brown of CNN does appear to like the name: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS...btsc/ index.html

Gravatar Hilda, you are the brightest star in the Try-Works/Wart/R!68 foimament.

Glenn: where's that picture? And where's the Post's retraction? Seems like that would be a fairly straighforward one. What's the holdup?

Gravatar I don't know where you came up with that tangent about Civil War reenactments, Hilda. Perhaps you should check out the reenactment clubs in your community if it interests you. You could play any number of roles: scullery-maid, camp follower, battlefield corpse with gas-swollen abdomen, etc.

I'm sure you're on a tight budget. No problem, you no doubt already possess the necessary clothing.

Gravatar How about some levity to lighten up the mood?

Heroic Pig Fuckers. Now that's a name any punk band would embrace.

Gravatar At least William Tecumseh Sherman was on the union side, but he is fairly famous for directing some of the indian wars after the civil war period. Given the fact that this blog, in its title-lines and topic choice seems to focus on criticizing prominent activists in native legal and civil rights struggles, that choice of name does prompt some questions. Why do you like Sherman?
http://www.pbs.org/weta/thewest/...s_z/ sherman.htm

Gravatar Now that my identity has been outed (!), someone needs to out whoever is posing as Glenn Spagnuolo in these comments. Whoever he is, he's making the real Spags look like a total douchebag.

Gravatar Wouldn't the elders have an advantage in the streetfighting? If the cops bring out the Brown Note machine, the elders are already equipped with diapers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_note

Gravatar As I see it, this blog often focuses criticism on prominent con-artists, Hilda. Many of them happen to be the sort of flamboyant, sociopathic dickheads that you admire so much.

Sherman was a brilliant soldier who contributed mightily to the defeat of the Confederacy -- you know: "the enemy." He saw what was required for victory far more clearly than many others. This brought him public ridicule and insinuations of mental illness when he estimated, early in the war, that 200,000 troops would be required to put down the rebellion in the West. His marches through Georgia and South Carolina are some of the greatest calculated gambles in military history. He had a way with words, too, e.g. "Yesterday we killed General Pope, and made excellent progress today."

You don't like him. That's all right. Life goes on.

Was he wrong to burn all crops and houses, exterminate farm animals, tear up railroads, and feed his army by taking whatever was needed from civilians? Was it collective punishment? Should the South have just been allowed to go its own separate way in peace? Gve me some kind of an answer, Hilda.

Gravatar Kevin: don't encourage her.

Ernesto: I depend on Depends.

Glenn: still no retraction from the Post. Would you mind bugging them again? And where's that picture? I said I'd post it, so get it to me, already. Jeez, don't you have a secretary or something who does that kind of stuff for you?

Gravatar Probably the Post isn't retracting their story because it's true.

Probably Spagnoodles is just claiming the other groups never worked with him.

Gravatar This is a job for Obviousman.

Gravatar Yes, well, it always surprises me how Mr. Paine invites all you highly-intelligent people to comment on his blog, and you do.

Gravatar Okay.
Re: the civil war, my general position on drawing state borders is that favoring smaller units, often around a national cultural identity, is a good principal because large states such as Rome, AustrioHungaria, USSR, Turkey tend to get imperial intentions. Blocking economic trade and supporting african slaves would be good.

Here's a scenario. This summer, staggering under the US's karma backlash, some traditionally nonpolitical folks will have more free days due to underemployment, there will be feelings of emasculation as the 45cent/mile gas cost of their 15mpg pickups required them to pull out a ten-speed and breathe fumes from some remaining real estate agents in the summer heat. Despite the inane chatter about democrats about to raise taxes or favoring 'big government', someone releases the bad news about the nat'l debt rising from $5tril to $9tril 2000-2008, http://www.usatoday.com/money/20...icit- usat_x.htm (largely balanced with regressively collective SS taxes in the short term), which makes rapid inflation a certainty and the system of currency becomes almost a joke. So this group gets angry, organizes somehow, and heads to Denver. Do you think it will happen?

Gravatar You didn't answer the questions, Hilda. Perhaps they are too difficult for you.

Gravatar AustrioHungaria?

Gravatar "AustrioHungaria?"

Didn't James Bond drive one of those?

Gravatar It's great that Spagz is taking such an active interest in this board. It'll give us the opportunity to really grill him with our own questions.
So Glenn, I have a few questions, if you're still checking this thread out:
1. Why is it that your definition of what you feel actually constitutes violence on the part of the protestors is extremely precise and specific (i.e. one of your site's pamphlets says that willful destruction of property does not count as violence and is a- ok), whereas your definition of what constitutes violence on the part of the police is EXTREMELY vague (i.e. would you consider it police violence if officers physically remove and arrest a protestor who is blocking a road?). It seems to me like you're just making excuses, and making it seem like any police action whatsoever would be grounds for "Self- defense" violence by protestors.
2. If R68 is so nonviolent, why is it that the mascot for your 'Great Camera Hunt' was a rabbit packing an assault rifle and wearing a bandana over his face (Traditionally worn by anarchists during their protests to make it harder for police to identify them when the anarchists engage in their typical acts of vandalism and violence)?
3. Going along with question #2, if R68 is a purely nonviolent group, why would you even care about the locations of the new cameras in the first place? That seems like the kind of behavior I'd expect from people who know they'll have something to hide, not from peaceful, good- intentioned demonstrators.
4. This isn't really a question, it's just a statement: Your claims of being a nonviolent group are definitely called into question by your association with radical anarchist groups such as Unconventional Action and RAIMD. Such groups, based on what is seen on their own websites, are almost definitely planning on engaging in as much violence and lawlessness as possible, though they of course phrase it carefully using euphemistic terms like "Diversity of tactics" and "Food liberation." Glenn, are you familiar with the story 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian'? You are kind of like Nikabrik the dwarf in that story, and groups like Unconventional Action and RAIMD are like the hag and werewolf that he tries to bring into Caspian's group. If R68 is truly a nonviolent group, I would suggest either strongly advising those groups to stay peaceful during the protests, or severing your connection with them. That way, the people would know that your claims of nonviolence have some weight to them.
That's all I wanted to say.

Gravatar I've always seen Whitmer as Nikabrik the dwarf. (Nikabrik was the retarded dwarf, right?)

Gravatar Benjie says I'm a retarded dwarf named "Greasy." Is that from the Narnia stories?

Gravatar " If R68 is so nonviolent, why is it that the mascot for your 'Great Camera Hunt' was a rabbit packing an assault rifle and wearing a bandana over his face (Traditionally worn by anarchists during their protests to make it harder for police to identify them when the anarchists engage in their typical acts of vandalism and violence)?"

Is that what is keeping you up at night, rabbits with assault rifles and bandanas. You been watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail too in your drunkafest?
