I wonder if a parent was outside with this child? Maybe a short distance away or something.
Young children are more often attacked and even killed by dogs than by wild animals. My dog has bitten everyone but me. And the children bite, too.
We have foxes and coyotes. The coyotes are new. They are not native to this area but have been moving in and are very adaptable.
They look like small emaciated German Shepherds. They have very long legs and sometimes the legs are black.
Usually they eat small animals, but one faced me off one nite when I was carrying groceries. But it finally moved off.
Coyotes just waltz around like dogs in residential areas.
