For someone whose only connection to the Grand Canyon has been by way of Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite and music by Copeland I'd like to read of your "Trial by Mulefart."
The closest I've come to a real canyon is the "Fish River Canyon" in South Africa on the border of Namibia. It's especially hot on the 24th of December, and the sound of an avalanche is just the blood rushing through one's head as one tries the ascent before sufficient time has passed after the sun has set. No mules though.

Nice of you to stop by. Really like your blog. Sure hope you get back into the Park Service. I've spent a fair amount of time around on the Colorado River system, mainly on the Green. You've read Abbey's account of his (beer-soaked) trip down the Green in Desert Solitaire, I imagine?
