Good post JR. I agree completely..good post!!.40 loads ROCK...and with the price increase of Blazer, loading 9mm is getting VERY attractive.
(Not to mention, 147g. bullet knocks steel over nicely!)
Preach it, man, preach it!

people like the fella that wrote the TJ article about how all of us should just use factory ammo to make it fair for those who can't afford a reloader are one of the main reasons I quit shooting formal idpa matches. It's just not fun when first you get hit because that wasn't tactical. Then you get hit because there's no way you could have gone that fast without cheating. Now it's to the point where even if you're safely within the rules of the game, you're still cheating because you're handloading your own ammo.
I suppose if I only shot 6 matches a year like it seems the bulk of these weenies shoot, then I could afford to go buy my ammo at the store.
It also strikes me as entertaining that the same turds who will tell anyone who listens, ad nauseum, that they're not shooting for score are the same ones who critize anyone trying to actually win the match.

Well, I do reload for .40 and I am one of those that download down to the 125pf (Actually mine are at 128pf) and I'm not gonna stop.
Is it an advantage - HELL YES!!!
Is it against the rules - HELL NO!!!
I'm so sorry that I'm following the rules, who would have ever thought of that. Following the rules is not within the Spirit of IDPA.
And I agree with the 'Fish. These are the same idiots that are finishing 18th place out of 20 shooters and can't figure out why, so it must be that ammo. I'm sure he also thinks giving out trophys the way they currently do is wrong.
Guess what? Switch to factory only and your still a bottom feeder. Only instead of your class having 20 shooters there would be 10. Because now we can't afford to shoot. And Leatham, Sevigny and Horner would still kick everyone's ass. It's not the ammo.
Oh and by the way, I'm not changing, except when I shoot Limited. Oops, that's that "other" shooting sport.

One of the things I've always disliked about IDPA is that the organization trys to use its rulebook to define "good" behavior and "bad" behavior, instead of just defining what behavior is allowed or disallowed.
When someone exploits a rule to their advantage in a way that's not percieved as being realistic, hardcore, tactically sound, or whatever, its not seen as problem with rules, but as some sort of moral failing on the part of the shooter.
If your goal is to shoot with a group of like minded friends you should never need a rule book and never plan on taking your shoot off your local range or outside your immediate circle of friends.
The whole thing kinds of reminds me of how liberals try to use the law to do more than just set limits on behavior, they try legislate a moral code and control how you think and feel.

Well, if I could shoot a .40 (besides the Glock 27 well), I'd use it. But I can't. If you can use a round that fits the rules and isn't too expensive, what's the problem?

I just thought of this one.
What if we started using a Glock 37 in .45 GAP. With a 230 gr bullet it only has to be going about 600fps!
The Tactical Mall Ninjas would just die if we started doing that one. If they put t-shirts on the targets you could probably reuse your bullets because I doubt they'd penetrate the cardboard.
And you know the only reason Glock developed that cartridge is so Dave Sevigny could use it and win at Nationals!
Because he has such a big problem beating everyone with a 9mm.....

You guys still have a ways to go to beat your typical Powerlifting federation.
When you are banned from shooting in a meet because last week (month, year) you shot in a meet with a guy who has been found "persona non grata" for some rules offense, THEN you may say you have reached the bottom!

As a matter of fact, a top-flight competitor WAS disqualified from last year's IDPA Nationals after he left the match. It was determined (after the fact) that he practiced turning and reaching for his gun when a previous competitor was being run through a stage. This egregious and flagrant "gaming" earned him a procedural penalty for the stage. He still won his division.
Two days later, he got a phone call informing him that he was being DQ'd for "gross unsportsmanlike conduct."
He had received ONE procedural, for THAT stage, the last stage he shot for that match, but now he was disqualified. Go figure.
I'd say that's pretty much rock bottom.
