Gravatar All that time and I had no clue I was driving a pos.
Damn, you don't dislike the Beretta. You want the designer found, shot, and then his body drug through the streets.

Hell, now I'm afraid to ask what ya think about the new PX4 that Beretta manufactures.

Also Cat, ya have to remember, I'm not a pro anything and the pistol will maybe have a box or two of ammo run through in its entire life. When I bought my current gun back in the 80's, I opened the box, fired a few rounds through it, and was pretty happy were they landed. All of those items you mentioned in the post? I've never noticed a single one of them.
In other words, I'm not even as close to dedicated as you guys are about guns.

And honestly, I don't even need a new gun. Just got the urge, and you know how those work out.

Gravatar Make sure you ask Catfish about the excellent H&K he once owned.

I went shooting with a guy once, and we were plinking at some cans. He asked about how I held the gun, and I tried to show him. He just said, "hell, I don't need anyone to show me how to shoot a can." I told him that was true - any monkey can shoot a gun. The difference is in follow-up shots, and the ability to make several fast, accurate shots in a row. Whether you shoot a lot or a little, that one critical skill is something that most people overlook. The gun has a lot to do with that, but so does training and practice.

Gravatar Training and practice? I have mountains of it, just not recently.

Gravatar The Beretta is a POS. The only thing its good at is impressing procurement officers that will never carry or use the gun.

The 92 is terribly size inefficient. Any fighting gun chambered in 9mm should be the size of a G19 or SMALLER.

The grip is huge for a 9mm and the trigger reach is too far for far too many shooters.

I too have seen the block on a 96 let go. They gun in question had flown to the training class and the owner was trying to figure out how he was going to get it home since he couldent clear it.

Its the ultimate mall-ninja gun.

Gravatar Glocks rule.

Gravatar I'll go a big +1 on Catfish's recommendation of the M&P. REALLY nice gun for the $$........

Gravatar Gotta go with Big D on this one, Glocks rule.

Gravatar The PX4 is a nice little pistol. Having owned and shot several DA/SA and DAO handguns, the "transition between" is not that huge a deal, especially when you take them out to the range and play with them, like you are supposed to. Hell, I am driving my first standard transmission pickup truck in about 10 years now, and I had no problem making the switch from automatic back to shifting.

I think Catfish has a good point, but some of his supporting points are kind of autobiographical, and not general, or at least as they apply to DA/SA as a whole, as I can't speak at all for a Model 92, having never had one.

People get good with what they train with or shoot with regularly (assuming they have at least decent technique). Maybe not competition speed, but most don't shoot comp-guns, either. And the issues of breakage are more quality of the handgun in question, not a factor between DA/SA and DAO.

I still love you Catfish (in a manly hetero way), but you have a definite hard-on for Berettas.

Gravatar I agree with everything you have said, and more, having taught pistol shooting to army folks. The 92 is awful.

I do have to point out though that the Marine and Army Marksmanship pistol teams have gone to the 92 almost exclusively. Once you accurize them, they shoot inside the 1911s with less recoil. Even Barry Zins says so.

I just bought a 1911 Les Baer from Champions Choice- a hardball CMP-legla service pistol to shoot those matches with, so I'm on the side of angels.

But the 9mms are taking over in CMP service pistol matches.
