Oh only 14 mi to the gal...That BITES!
I came very close to the Chevy Silvarado, but they wouldn't give me the price I wanted and that I knew was fair, no sunroof either, kind of important when you live in a state that has a lot of cloudy days.
I can always change this at a later time... In 5-7 years I'll probably want a sporty car.

Personally, I don't think you're a moron, although we disagree fairly often, I think sometimes it is just a matter of degrees, not of the issues...
Certainly not a matter of intelligence.
Although, you are certainly more than welcome to re-examine your values and beliefs! 
What Walmart did probably didn't make a dent in their yearly advertising budget and look at the publicity they've garnered. Even on their most teary, bleary eyed day, Walmart wouldn't move to help a sick dog without ulterior motives.
Why not just give 1 million then and be done with it?
It doesn't matter to people who are taught to hate business. No one could ever give enough, and if they did, it would be because of "ulterior motives".
