Enlighten Me! :)

I do hope you are not just now discovering Mr. Vanderboegh, CUG.

As I see it, the problem is first and foremost the media. The media could have had a field day ripping apart the ATF for abusing its authority in that case, but didn't, because of ideological considerations.

He can't criticize Holder! He's a racist!!!

Heh.

So let me understand this. There has been no proposed legislation or crackdown on gun ownership and you are affraid Holder will "take our guns"?

W let us keep the guns, just took our freedom.

...what good is freedom when they take your guns?

"There has been no proposed legislation"

Tim this is untrue, and the information is readily available.

H.R. 2159 and HR 45 both instantly come to mind, not to mention the little barbs they try to stick in spending bills and such. And let us not forget the INTER-AMERICAN CONVENTION AGAINST THE ILLICIT MANUFACTURING OF AND TRAFFICKING IN FIREARMS, AMMUNITION, EXPLOSIVES, AND OTHER RELATED MATERIALS treaty that has already been signed by Clinton, and in a Democratic wet dream gets voted on in Congress this year.

"...or crackdown on gun ownership"

Ever here of New Orleans or David Olofson? How many FFL's have been lost in the last 10 years?

"and you are affraid Holder will "take our guns"?"

Yes I am:

"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.

Seriously, you need to google stuff before you make comments like this Tim.
You are not unintelligent; I know this as we have had discourse over the years now, but you are sloppy with facts (or the lack thereof).

W let us keep the guns, just took our freedom."

And I'm so glad to see that the Mocha Messiah has reversed that trend and restored some of our freedoms. /sarcasm

Seriously, Tim; it's not D's vs R's or Libtards vs Consvatives (esp on this site). It's us (we the people) against them (the state). Bush and O are just two minutely different sides of the same evil coin. Hence mostly the same behaviors (warantless wiretaps or Middle East wars, for instance).

Don't forget the invasive and draconian H.R. 2640, the “NICS Improvement Amendments Act of 2007, signed by Herr Bush.

Yes yo, trends.
Trends...

I will agree the Obama has not done much of anything to dismantle the policies of the Fascist Bush Regime, just some window dressing around the margins. Forgive me if I don't Google every topic before I make a comment. I DO read the daily paper and try to keep informed on news in general. I have heard about the Assault ban and plans to re-instate it, but still, I think that will not do much to restrict access to guns a there are so many floating around anyway that they are readily available "used". I also heard about the planned closing of the "gun show Loophole" for background checks, but really, this stuff does not constitute any real threat to gun ownership, IMHO.

Also, is it just me or is Wayne LaPierre a closet homosexual? The NRA needs to dump him and get a more "Macho" figurehead. Just sayin'.

Of course Tim, you are not required to look up anything, but when you make naked assertions, speaking as if you are knowledgable about the subject matter (and thus trying to convince people here you are correct, and I am not), you can bet someone here (at least me!) is going to vet it. If I am wrong, I will admit it as well. So it works both ways.

Additionally, now you say they DO want to pass laws, but they're no biggy; you are wrong here. The laws we have now are infringements, and more laws will exacerbate these injustices, and hasten the ultimate goal of government: a disarmed, docile populus.

And Wayne? Meh. I'm still pissed at the NRA for selling out on the NICS thing. I'm hedging more towards GOA and JPOF.

Your're right, though - He ain't no Chuck Heston or Tom Selleck, is he?

It's funny, JB, but after I typed my last comment I was reading today's Wall St. Journal editorial page while flying to Syracuse.

"Democrats and Guns

Amid so much other news, a Senate vote last week to allow loaded guns in national parks slipped under the media radar. The vote shows how the political cause of gun control is as dead as a mounted moose.

By 67-29, the Senate passed Oklahoma Republican Tom Coburn's amendment to let law-abiding visitors carry legal firearms into national parks. This overturns a 1983 federal rule requiring that firearms be kept unloaded and in an inaccessible place such as a trunk of a car. The provision (now part of credit-card legislation) protects Second Amendment rights, and it preserves the right of states to pass firearm laws that apply consistently, even on federal lands.

As recently as the 1990s, guns in parks legislation would have provoked a Congressional uproar. But gun control has proven to be a consistent political loser, and last year the Supreme Court cast doubt on state gun bans. No fewer than 27 Democrats voted for Mr. Coburn's amendment, and the ayes included Majority Leader Harry Reid, who is up for re-election in Nevada next year.

Congressional liberals are furious, and are threatening to hold up the credit-card bill, much as they have held up Washington, D.C. voting-rights legislation to which Republicans attached gun-owner protections. Holding up both bad bills forever would be fine with us, but in any case it's clear liberals have lost the gun control debate even within their own party."

Not to be chest thumpin' or anything, but they kinda made my point for me, no? This from THE most conservative paper in the world, except for maybe the now defunct "VÖLKISCHER BEOBACHTER".

Yes, there is the little this or that that some congressperson may bring forward momentarily before being slapped down by the NRA mercilessly, but that is really just catering to their ultra-lib fringe and will never see the light of day. Truly, this horse has left the barn and the debate is dead, dead, dead.

And BTW "Get your hands off me! You dirty damned ape!" (can't help it, whenever I hear CH's name, that quote just jumps out).

When we gonna take that motorcycle cruise?

the political cause of gun control is as dead as a mounted moose.
Which brings to mind a question...what caliber for zombie moose? Me, I'd go for .338 Lapua at the very least.

I watch as the events unfolded in Waco and it was disgusting to say the least and I'm old enough to remember other power abuses by the feds. I recall the events at Oxford, Mississippi when 18,000 federal troops were sent into that sleepy Mississippi town of 5,000 ihhabitants. The government will do whatever they think they can get away with regardless of what the law says. Events suchas Waco and Oxford are more than likely to occur again with Obama and his gang leading the way.

It's us (we the people) against them (the state). Bush and O are just two minutely different sides of the same evil coin.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

You know, that kind of talk isn't very conservative. Are you sure you're not a libertarian?

"You know, that kind of talk isn't very conservative. Are you sure you're not a libertarian?" RobertM

Only a rabid one.
