Enlighten Me! :)

And if that were to happen, in NJ, they'd raise the gas tax so that we wouldn't get a break.

Grrrrr!

I hope something logical happens of all of this, but likely not.

Where is this mythical windfall? Methinks it lies in the minds of wacko kook jobs...

If true, the leftists wouldn't let us drill it.

Yes, Tim; those nutty folks at the U.S. Geographical Survey .

http://minnesota.publicradio.org...08/04/10/ndoil/

And the hyperlink (different from these two) in the post works now, as well.

A thousand pardons, but I can't believe you would doubted my veracity...

I read about this. I bet the leftwing wackos will fight it tooth and nail. I have been to ND. There ain't much up there to get excited about. This would be aboon to their economy as well as getting the US off the OPEC nipple. I am all for it. It makes sense. But that whole "it makes sense" thing is what will get it killed by the libtards.

Agreed with the others. If true, the environmentalist wackos will never let us drill for it.

Hey, wait a minute. If the Iraq War was all for oil, then why are we getting fisted at the gas pumps???

Why go for the genuine article, when you can produce ethanol at twice the price, with a total wash in net energy gain. At the same time you can starve the world, using the proven failure of feel good liberal economic experimentation.

Don't forget that you get to use taxpayer dollars to subsidize ethanol, Insol!

If ethanol is so kick-ass, why does it need tax dollars...?

Let's go git it! Subsidized Ethanol is killing people in poor countries - it's very expensive being "Green" - besides we got the guns and the Ecoweenies don't.

Indeed, DC.
Indeed.

Jimmy, both of the articles you mention site 4 Billion barrels retrievable by today's technology. Add that to ANWR (10 billion) and you still don't come anywhere near 200 billion. Heck, that is almost as much as Saudi Arabia. Again, wishful thinking.
That being said, it's still enough oil to supply our daily national consumption (20 million barrels) for over five years.

The only problem is that even if we combined that with ANWR, we'd burn thru it all in less than 20 years.

Current estimates of US reserves are 21.37 Billion barrels (bbs) add that 4 and you get 25.37 bbs. or about an 18% increase. Still, at current levels of consumption, we burn thru every drop of our oil reserves in 34.3 years.

All told, that gives the USA about 2.1 % of World oil reserves.

I say don't use up that oil. It's going to get even more expensive later, so leave it alone. That sould be a last resort after we use up the "cheaper" oil first.

can we make cars run on hippies and tree huggers? there's a plentiful source there, esp on the west coast.

I wonder what would happen to the price of oil if the US Gov. simply suggested it was in the planning stages of drilling for that?

It will never happen. We would rather burn food and protect prairie dogs...

Get the oil now. Continue to develop stuff like fuel cell, steam, solar or whatever.

Develop a nuke policy for electricity and stop the ethanol.

Watch gas and food prices drop back to reality.

Great news, isn't it? I'm looking at some possible investments into the new major oil field found in the Dakotas >
