If killing human embryos for research isn’t ethically wrong, then why are stem cells derived from human embryos created solely for research not “ethically derived human embryonic stem cells?”
One could make the argument that deriving stem cells from embryos which are going to be destroyed is ethically analogous to taking organs for transplant from a murder victim. There are problems with that argument, but it's at least not totally incoherent. It's also not an argument that most ESCR proponents will make. As you say, most don't think that destroying a human embryo is wrong to begin with. It seems more like turning up the water in the pot slowly so the frog doesn't jump out.

Yeah, I'm not saying the argument couldn't be made - I just haven't seen anything resembling an argument for why killing embryos created solely for research is ethically wrong while killing embryos created for IVF treatments is ethically okay.
