Of course, being on the 40-man will help. With Neshek on the 60-day, the Twins have spots open. They might have five depending on what they do with Jose Morales (also disabled).

Humber and Korecky will both get a call. Humber will be out of options come spring 2009, so he'll have to produce or the Twins might lose him.

The other pitchers on the 40-man are Oswaldo Sosa and Jose Mijares, both at AA-level ball. And Julio DePaula, who has been atrocious at Rochester.

I could see Ricky Barrett or Mariano Gomez getting a call. Both are lefties. Barrett was passed over as a minor league free agent last spring after being dropped from the Twins 40-man. Gomez is from the Indians organization. Eddie G. may mean only one gets the call.

There's no reason to add Duensing, Mulvey, Mullins, Swarzak yet. A couple may make the 40-man come November.

Alejandro Machado is an interesting though. Rule 5ives last year...he could be a back up infielder. The question is: Twins in 2009. Barring trades or a massive free agent signee, looks like Casilla at 2nd, Punto at short and Buscher at third. Harris and Tolbert are assured back-up jobs. Reserves beyond could be Macahdo. And Matt Macri. Tommy Watkins could be in the 2009 mix, but is gone for this season with i jury and also not on the 40-man. Sergio Santos is taking a spot on the 40-man for some reason.

Garrett Jones is basically free to move on. Doubt the Twins will add him...except he can play first better than Randy Ruiz...maybe. See Jason Pridie coming up. Think he will be out of options this year, so he ahs to make the team in 2009 or go elsewhere.

And the third catcher choices? Ryan Jorgenson is injured, so he lost his chance. Jeff Christy was advanced beyond his due. Drew Butera would probably be 40-manned come November, so the Twins will bring him up...never start, just a few late inning apeparances. Get him excited about the majors. Jose Morales is still the Redmond heir come 2010 if he can play.

So, I rpedict Korecky, Humber and one of Gomez/Barrett. Butera. Macri (and Tolbert from DL). Pridie. Possibly Macahdo.

Unfortunately, the players called up are not eligible for being on the postseason roster unless there is an injury to a player already on the Twins 25-man roster.

Unless the rules have changed, that is not quite true. They can replace any injured player, including guys already on the DL like Tolbert, Cuddyer and Neshek. So if the Twins wanted to add a pitcher to the playoff roster, they could replace Neshek with that pitcher and then add him to the active post-season roster.

BTW - the Twins might also consider calling up Jose Mijares from New Britain. He was in a car accident last winter and has spent the summer rehabbing. He was on the roster before the accident and it looks like he is ready to go again. It would give them a fourth lefty in the bullpen.

well, they were announced

for the most part you were right on...

Tolbert
Humber
Korecky
Pridie

but instead of Butera, Jones and Bass

it's Ryan Jorgenson and Matt Macri

Shooot

Glad to be right for once. Mijares apparently was a good call. My guess is he takes Eddie's spot on the post season roster.
