I don't know about this... he has been horrible last year and that K/BB. The only thing he has is his age but there are better 20 year old pitchers in the system. I just hope the kid gets it together because he has talent.

Watching that video is pretty impressive. He's got tremendous size. The motion and delivery looks pretty fluid. He just looks like a pitcher. have to be honest, that after seeing the video, I am definitely more excited than if you just look at his number. Which of course is why you can't just look at his numbers.

" I'm not exactly sure what the Mets are/were thinking"
"He was one of many prospects who was rushed very quickly through the Mets system"
The answer to these questions is obvious. The Mets rush their prospects through the minors because unlike the Twins, they are trying to maximize their TRADE value. They draft people like Guerra so that they can move these prospects to "low budget" teams and get established major league players.
The rushing the prospects through the systems gives them the appearance of a higher value. That is, with a player like Guerra the scouts look at his age and level of play and this creates a tendency to also overlook some of his obvious flaws.
This is the situation with just about all of the players in the Mets organization. If Carlos Gomez were a Twins prospect he would be might be in AA right now (2004-GCL, 2005-ETown, 2006-Beloit,2007-Ft Myers, 2008 New Britain). THe fact is that his minor league career statistics are not that impressive and it is highly probably he would have done a two year stint in lower A ball.
In the Mets organization he played made his MLB debut in 2007 despite never posting an OPS above 775 in his entire minor league career.
And, the Twins followed the Mets script, ignoring any problems in his game because he was "young for the level". He is still a good speed prospect, dont get me wrong, but other teams overvalue the prospects of the Mets, Red Sox, Dodgers, and Yankees because of these manipulations.
and Guerra in Beloit.

He has a real similar wind up to Matt Garza. You can notice that he does not get on top of the ball at his release point which is probably the root of his velocity and control issues. If he gets that down I bet he will see drastic improvements. The odds of him going from a 90 mph fast ball to 95 are not likely at all. But it is reasonable to see 92 on a consistent basis. As for being in FL State League for the third year I think it is best to move him up. Their was a great statistical improvement to Anthony Swarzak when he was moved up. Maybe the change in scenery will help him out.
