I am delighted that Democratic legislators in Alabama and Georgia are pushing for school Bible courses.
Democrats need to demonstrate that we are not hostile to religious and moral values. The legislation is a step in the right direction for Democrats.
When I went through school, we did the Lord's Prayer each day as well as the Pledge of Allegiance. No one I know of ever crashed and burned from being exposed to God.
But in all frankness, today's politicians use God and the Bible as a tool to build a voter base. They would gladly wear a picture of either Mother Mary or Charles Manson stitched onto their sleeves if it would get them elected.
What we need is not more religion in politics but more honesty. If we can get that through faith, then that's just fine but don't be too willing to jump on a party barge just because they claim to have God in the cooler...
