Geez man, I wish I could say something really nice about your Ford Escort... some of the best rides I have ever had have been Fords (especially my very first car - a 1968 Fairlane 500).
The Escort is not a bad car but it's undoubtedly like some women... a high maintenance machine.
You'll need to pay close attention to oil and coolant levels. The engine will show a decided preference to warmer weather and likely be noisier in the winter.
On the upside, the CV Joint is probably the easiest and least expensive to replace of any domestic or imported model. On the downside, expect to be required to do this if you own the car for any length of time.
The headlight lenses, unless they have already been replaced, are made of plastic and if they haven't yet clouded over, they eventually will. You tried washing it out and scrubbing it out but you still get 'ring around the collar'.... er, excuse me... cloudy headlight lenses. Glass ones are available though...
The last of Ford's 'every man's car' series died with the original series Mustang. Since then, no domestic or import has been able to blend quality with affordability.
