Gravatar EEk! I have been saying the same thing, that New Orleans magically did not become below sea level when Bush became President.

During the move while I was without internet I saw first hand how horrible the MS media is as far as facts/honesty. At times I was disgusted beyond words.

I realize no one wants to take responsibility for what happened in New Orleans, however the inital situation was caused by the State and Local Government. The poor that were left to fend for themselves were not left by the feds in that situation, they were left by their own local government. While there will always be those that will refuse to evacuate, if you give people no options and know they have no transportation or ability to stockpile supplies what are these Louisiana politicians expecting was going to happen?

While it's obvious aid did not get there as fast as it should have the initial responsibility should lie with who left those people there with no options to escape or have supplies to survive in the first place.

Gravatar Welcome back, Lisa. Hope the move is going smoothly. Well, as smoothly as possible.

I stopped by your blog recently and saw where you were having quite an ordeal with getting your DSL installed. Ya gotta love the utility folks!

Anyway, I swear that ONE DAY, someone is going to try and take away your "liberal credentials" for you making so much sense!

Gravatar President Bush had his press secretary provide us with a new phrase, “Blame Game.”
It was introduced at a press conference where it was repeated eight times.
In order to ensure that ‘No Child Is Left Behind’ (unlike the thousands of children left behind to drown in the Gulf Coast) here is a word game you can play with your children so that they can know and use the phrase.
First of all the purpose of the exercise is to ensure that children and you, as an adult, are able to repeat the phrase when it is needed.
As part of our Homeland Defense it should be repeated eight times whenever anyone says something like this, ‘Undersecretary of FEMA Michael D. Brown is apparently an incompetent whose inadequate preparations led to the needless death of thousands of Americans, the destruction of several towns and the loss of one American city.’
As soon as you hear something like that you should say, ‘Blame Game, Blame Game, Blame Game, Blame Game, Blame Game, Blame Game, Blame Game, Blame Game.’
Children should look at the ground and shuffle their feet.
Responsible bureaucrats would also like us all to practice this other word game.
When anyone says, ‘Michael D. Brown should be fired.’, you respond, ‘Why would I do that for?’
For full effect repeat, ‘Blame Game, Blame Game, Blame Game, Blame Game, Blame Game, Blame Game, Blame Game, Blame Game.’
Hopefully these instructions will be available soon on FEMA for kids :

Gravatar Thanks for ignoring the facts, dude. Sorry they were inconvenient for you. Did you even bother to read the story, or were you too busy exemplifying my "fingers in the ears screaming 'I am not listening'" observation?

Maybe Brown is indeed incompetent...but nowhere near as responsible for the deaths of those in New Orleans as the mayor and governor of LA. Or did you not bother to read the prior post either, about where the STATE (that would mean "Not the feds", in case you're in a blue state) turned away the Red Cross?

OH, damn...I just did that "Blame Game" thingee again, didn't I? Dammit, when am I gonna learn to keep my facts to myself?

The louder you morons scream, the more Americans ignore you. Kinda like...now.

Buh-bye.

Gravatar Lots of people are too lazy to be bothered with tedious facts. All liberal demagogues have to do is leave them with the vague impression that everything bad that happens is Bush's fault.

Gravatar True, Van...if these dimwits can blame a hurricane and global warming on Bush, they can blame anything on him.

Gravatar Maybe it's because I've made it a point to not be of either party but I find this stupidity of the blame game to serve no purpose. Especially when a logical rational person realizes that there is blame on both sides.

I see the same thing on the war in Iraq, President Bush didn't do it alone, Congress voted to give him the power to do so. Democrats voted yes...same with the FEMA situation. Democrats voted to move it under Homeland Security. Was that a mistake? Maybe it was or maybe things need to be reworked now as far as procedures but Democrats did this too.

While I would love to see this administration take more responsibility for bad decisions? I'd also like to see the "other" side admit they are far from perfection and also bear some responsibility in alot of what goes wrong as well.

I have to be honest in admitting this past week of watching the mainstream media cover this disaster has probably made me even less "liberal" as some of the downright falsehoods that have been stated and are being repeated made me be quite vocal to my television.

Do I think President Bush is an ideal President? No. However, I also do not believe he is responsible for all of what went wrong either. Maybe Brown was the wrong choice, if it is proven he made serious errors rather than it being a consequence of communication issues and increased red tape then he should be fired. I think it's too early to be demanding his head, I also think it was too early to praise him, but that alone is not enough to cause the freak out zone some of my more leftist bretheran have been living in.

And thanks Jonathan, almost done unpacking and at least I have a phone line though the whole dsl aspect is turning out to be an adventure. Never thought I'd be happy to have dial up back - lol
