Gravatar If I did not have an ID with me when I went to my little SC polling station, I COULD NOT VOTE! It would NOT matter that Thelma, who sits behind the registration desk has KNOWN ME FOR YEARS!!!

Why do Democrats fight rules meant to protect the voting rights of ALL CITIZENS?

O.K... well you answered that in your post!!!

Gravatar Is it too much to ask that the governing body of this country be elected by actual citizens? Yeah, I know, that would be discriminating against liberals, right? Why do they need the legislature too?

Gravatar That is absolutly terrifying. I'm suprised the U.N. hasn't weighed in saying it would be a good idea for the U.S. to allow anyone a chance to vote in U.S. elections.

Gravatar Rob,

Give them time, sir, and I'm confident the UN will do just that. After all, they're trying to impose a world income tax on everyone!

Gravatar they're trying to impose a world income tax on everyone!

Not only that, they would also like to get control of the internet from ICANN. http://www.boston.com/business/t..._over_internet/

Gravatar In response to the Fox station's report (I wouldn't call it news) in regards to the Georgia judge that imposed an injunction to the Voter ID Act. You parroted the Fox story that the governor of Georgia Sonny Perdue said that IDs could be issued for free. Ok. Fair enough, however, in true political style this man's character is so suspect I wouldn't doubt he'd be discredited on the stand. For example:
Gov. Sonny was fined for elections fraud AP
"The State Ethics Commission Friday fined Governor Sonny Perdue for violating campaign laws. It is believed to be the first time a sitting governor has ever been fined since the commission was created in the 1970s
...
Mike Jablonski, a lawyer for Georgia Democrats, said the fine proves Perdue is "the most ethically challenged governor in Georgia history."
Ooo wait there's more:
The man actually ran on the platform of bringing "ethics" back to the Governorship,
"We're going to be the most ethical governing administration in America," Ayers said. "The governor has led by example." [Atlanta Journal Constitution, July 11, 2003]
Sounds familiar doesn't it? Someone said something about being a uniter?
"It's always tragic when a public official fails to uphold the ethical responsibilities that are entrusted in them by the people they serve," Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue [Augusta Chronicle, June 3, 2005]

True my friend, very true. However hypocritical it is.

On a more serious note, I wouldn't believe this man if he paid me, unlike the folks at Fox. Poll tax? Absolutely. Actually, the very person in charge of executing the new "law" is against it. In fact Secretary of State Cathy Cox said this:

"Cox also testified that the new law does not require photo IDs for people to register to vote and that the state does not require photo ID to get absentee ballots. Cox called those gaping loopholes that could invite voter fraud." WXIA-TV

I am starting to wonder why any reporters even go to the White House press conferences. Scott can't comment on an ongoing investigation, therefore he can't talk about any of the Republican leaders in any of the branches of government. Wake up folks. We need hard working upright citizens. These people are screwing your Republican ideals right out of the government.

Gravatar Actually, the very person in charge of executing the new "law" is against it.

What does that have to do with the price of yak shit in Tibet? The job of an elected official is to do the job he/she was hired for, irrespective of whether he/she supports certain aspects of it. If an Attorney General doesn't like a particular law, then he/she still has to enforce it (unless she's Janet Reno).

I am starting to wonder why any reporters even go to the White House press conferences.

Care to stay on topic here, moonbat?

Why don't you just be honest for once (while you're off-topic and talking about ethics)? Your problem with requiring voter ID is that your kind will get screwed out of the illegal and duplicate votes, which are absolutely necessary for you guys to stand a snowball's chance in Hell of winning an occasional race. Time after time, the left has demonstrated a sickening unethical history of perpetuating vote fraud on this country, and when efforts are made to curb such fraud, you guys squeal like Barney Frank at a Chippendale's show.

Come back when you can stay on topic and make some semblence of sense. We operate much better here when intelligible English is used.

Gravatar A moonbat lecturing on ETHICS?

Is this comedy night?

Moonie cites Sonny Perdue... but is he on record for applying that same standard to DEMOCRATS?

Let's start with Nazi Pelosi shall we?

Fined for campaign finance violations by setting up TWO PACS so she could get around the contribution limits.

You want people to take ethics seriously clownface? Try cleaning up your own house before you complain about the mess in mine.

Gravatar First of all, talks talk ethics, then we can go into the first opic. I never said I subscribe to either side of aisle. To me, our elected representatives on the Federal level are elites. They've never given a rat's ass about us. Both sides of the aisle are infested with all forms of corruption. BOTH sides, my friend. I just detest it when folks walk in lock step with any particular one guy. Blind nationalism is not patriotism, while you mentioned Nazi Pelosi lol. I don't like her either. There is ONE guy on both sides that I would vote for. John McCain. He seeks to actually unite instead of installing an agenda. That being said.
On to the voting IDs. Like I said before, I don't care about either side. I care about our country, and its' people. All of them. Yes, even the super rich sleezeballs. See, when I was in grade school reading about this President and that, reading about the great Generals etc I loved it. "We live in a free land" was my thought. Then I grew up and realized such things as the Social Contract, elitism, etc. Then I read about MLK and the rest. I wondered how in our country we could have done such things to any people. Safe guards are in place for reasons. Your opposition has a legitimate argument. The point I was making is that this Governor says busses go from town to town to ensure these poor people have a way to get to the building that creates the state IDs. This was one of the arguments against the law. The problem with his statement is that this was the same Governor that suspended school statewide during Katrina. How the hell can they give the gas to the vehicles to shuttle the poor when the schools can even stay open? It is a legit question, so don't harp.
Conclusion: I too am tired of the bullshit, just like you guys. I wish people had more backbone and balls to speak out, organize, get off the friggin couch and act like Americans. The Americans I grew up learning about were honorable, trustworthy, and cared about their neighbors. The only politician that even remotely resembles any of that is John McCain. The President, Vice, all the way down to most of the Governors of this country are pandering sleezeballs that do enough for their people to perhaps get voted back into power. I think you should author an essay about the Electoral College next. It would be interesting to see what you have to say. BTW WTF is a moonbat?

Gravatar Bacchus, feel free to use the ENTER key and break that down into more legible paragraphs next time.

Over half of the stuff you said I find to be pure bullshit. The other half makes a modicum of sense. Unlike you, and I don't mean this viciously, I don't equate how much Americans "care" about their neighbors with unbridled government spending on failed "social contract" programs, or letting anyone with a pulse vote.

I also disagree with your characterization of McCain. Like Cindy Sheehan, he's a poor-tempered media whore. So we can agree to disagree on him.

Also, you got off topic again. Especially with the Electoral College. But since you brought it up, I'll comment briefly:

It's in the Constitution as the way to elect a president. I love it. It keeps people like John Kerry and Al Gore from concentrating on L.A., San Francisco, New York, etc., and instead working to get more STATES to vote for them. This country was founded on the concept of STATES' supremacy.

And yes, had Kerry won Ohio and thus the presidency, as much as it would have sucked, I wouldn't have bitched about him having lost the popular vote by over 3 million...since the EC determines the outcome.

There's more, but that's the condensed version. And please...stay on topic!

As for you being a moonbat, I'll withdraw the comment for the time being. You did make an attempt (after an initial and off-base snide comment) to be rational, regardless of whether I agree with you. Moonbats are crazy, paranoid leftists who spout conspiracy theories, blame all of the world's ills on America and on capitalism, etc. In short, they're whacked-out emotionally-driven intellectually vacuous leftists with whom you cannot hold an intelligent debate.

Gravatar I noticed all of the arguments with bacchus were basically just insults thrown back at him. I especially liked the part about "your kind". Since bacchus is a prior Marine, then I guess you mean that US Marines "will get screwed out of the illegal and duplicate votes". But, there we go again stereotyoing people before we know anything about them. Why don't you go ahead and call him un-American or unpatriotic. I bet he doesn't support the troops. I am sure I will get banned for posting this. Bacchus will probably get banned too. But at least I will be in good company. Fred got banned, and he is in the Army. Bacchus was a Marine. And, my husbands in the Navy. If you ban all of us, you will be just one branch short of banning a member of all the armed forces.

Gravatar I especially liked the part about "your kind".

Cool...I aim to please!

"Your kind" = liberals. Bacchus swears he isn't one, or at least, not of the moonbat kind. For the moment, I'll take his word for it.

If you ban all of us, you will be just one branch short of banning a member of all the armed forces.

Wrong. I've already banned a moonbat named Steve from Colorado who was retired Air Force! I've got a chance to go for the gold here, don't I? lol

Lady, just like many other women (not all, as regular readers Kira and Lisa Renee are clearly exempted) and damned near every leftist I know, you function off of emotion and not logic. I don't give a crap if Fred is in the Army or that Bacchus is a Marine. My father was a Marine (as was other reader and commenter Lee), and they're not paranoid moonbat asshats spouting liberal Michael Moore / MoveOn / Media Matters for Morons conspiracy theory talking points. Fred is. He got banned because he refused to abide by two rather simple requests: (1) read how his "chickenhawk" fallacy was hollow; and (2) be civil, or at the very least, be logical. Like a kindergartner, he kept repeating the "chickenhawk" line, which showed he didn't read the refutation...just like a five-year-old "I'm not listening! La-la-la-la-la!" Also, peddling "stolen election" lies doesn't cut it when it comes to being logical.

Here's something that must drive your kind crazy (or, crazier): the soldiers in our armed forces voted for Bush by an average margin of roughly 70% - 30%. Even over the hippy retread Kerry (rumor had it that Kerry was in Vietnam! Who knew?!?) It seems that the military personnel have much more faith in people who are NOT liberal, and specifically in Bush, than they have in people like you. Or, if you prefer, "your kind." While their service is no more or less valuable than that of Fred, bacchus, or your husband, their ability to reason is clearly much more advanced.

I bet he doesn't support the troops.

Liberals' track record dating back to spitting on Vietnam veterans, continuing through today, is damned shameful when it comes to the military. Then again, I'm not the only one who thinks so. See the "70% - 30%" reference for proof. There ain't a damned thing you people can do to change generations of your anti-military hostility, other than hope future generations of liberals can undo the damage of their predecessors (which, at this point, seems unlikely).

If you can read (or if you have access to someone who can), read the heading at the top of the blog where I encourage moonbats to piss off.

Gravatar Wow, not only are you an asshole, you are a sexist asshole at that. It is interesting that you claim you want civil conversations, but you are really just a beligerant bully. You are so pathetic. Anyone that disagrees with you is a "moonbat". What a childish person you are. I think you are the one who argues with emotion. What kind of logic was involved in your last post?
By the way, I don't have a "kind". Unlike someone who quotes O'Reilly, I think for myself. There is no point talking to someone who obviously doesn't have the capacity to have a civil conversation. Honestly, I just think you are pissed off because a girl is smarter than you.

Gravatar LOL
She is too. She, like myself, was offered by Mensa to take their ridiculous test. You know Jeff, I was going to continue to post here. Try to "discuss" this with you, but have been convinced otherwise.
Truly you are not concerned with actual discussion neither is anyone else on this site. I wish it were so because it seeems you have some gray matter. Well, it won't be the first time I've met one of "your kind". Perhaps you could send the Fox conglomerate you CV. You make about as much sense as they do, and you definitely ascribed to their modus operandi of not including the entire story.
If you are truly interested in fact and logic, I suggest you read this essay I wrote. It shows historical fact, and no I didn't get my info from Zinn. Before you all try to trash my historian credentials I'd like you to understand that I've taught, and I currently tutor a post-student preparing for her PhD. Guess what she teaches at our local high school? Yup, history. lol
Enjoy, and thank you for the time.

Gravatar Toots, a lot of girls are smarter than I am! Try your emotionally-charged (thanks for proving THAT point of mine, by the way) invective elsewhere, yummybritches.

If you want to see what a "moonbat" is, go to moonbattery.com and you'll see it. I have no affiliation to the site, so it's free of my definition.

Disagreeing with me does not make one a moonbat. Liberal visitors here such as James, Joshua, and Honest Partisan have been able to post logical, coherent thoughts...and more times than not, I disagree vehemently with them! However, they at least think and don't react reflexively and emotionally. So that accusation of yours will go down faster than Monica Lewinsky in her presidential kneepads!

There is no point talking to someone who obviously doesn't have the capacity to have a civil conversation.

True, but I figured I'd give you a chance anyway! LOL! :-D

Gravatar She, like myself, was offered by Mensa to take their ridiculous test.

Wow...Mensa, huh? That's impressive! Except that...

You know Jeff

...the name is "Jonathan", Mr. Mensa! Apparently, such a once-respected org like Mensa no longer has a literacy requirement!

Perhaps you could send the Fox conglomerate you CV

You mean "your CV"? Does Mensa not have a grammar requirement either? I'm losing respect for them at a geometric pace right now!

I'd like you to understand that I've taught, and I currently tutor a post-student preparing for her PhD

In light of the above, I'd recommend that if you've charged her any money, she quickly seek a refund.

Guess what she teaches at our local high school?

She teaches? Wow...who'd have thunk it? A public school teacher, likely part of the NEA. Explains the "Mensa"-like achievements! :-D

Gravatar You know Mr. smart-ass, your grammar isn't the greatest. It must make you feel really big to make fun of people. What is wrong with public school teachers? They are in an honorable profession.

Gravatar Sigh... you're getting tiresome, sweetie.

It must make you feel really big to make fun of people.

No, being 6'1, 215#, and 15% body fat makes me feel pretty big. Making fun of people is only my recreational activity, usually reserved for moonbats (ding! We have a winner!)

Of course public school teaching can be an honorable profession. My friend Steve, who posts in here from time to time, is a public school teacher in Palm Beach County. Special ed, too. The amount of respect I have for him is immeasurable.

He also doesn't drink the NEA's leftist Kool-Aid, nor does he contribute to the measurable decline we've seen over the decades in our public school system. Fortunately, we have thousands of dedicated, caring, and capable teachers like him trying to make things better.

The NEA types, though, are dead wood.

(pause) Are you still here?

Gravatar Well, when you slow down and form a thoughtful response, you sound a lot more intelligent. But, I have to say that the underfunding of public schools has also contributed to the decline. I went to a public school in southern Alabama, I know how horrible some of the teachers can be. The problem is as long as we keep underpaying our teachers, then there will be no incentive for really bright people to teach. We need to make teaching more enticing. You have to agree that a job that is as important and a lot of times as stressful as theirs, there has to be a motivating factor to get more people interested. Also, I commend your friend for teaching special education.

Gravatar You're still an ass though.

Gravatar I have to say that the underfunding of public schools has also contributed to the decline.

Right and wrong.

http://www.policyalmanac.org/ edu..._spending.shtml

We spend more per pupil now than at any time in the history of this country, an average $6900 per kid in 1998 (significantly bigger now). The problem is that money spent on education gets siphoned off and never makes it to the classroom due to bureaucracy: unfunded mandates, compliance with a plethora of complex rules and regulations (most senseless), inflated salaries for people who contribute very little to the actual educating of the kids, etc.

Throwing money at education hasn't worked. Ever. I do not dispute the need for an increase in teacher salaries. I question the current educational system structure, specifically the federal Dept. of Education, which was one of the worst forms of bureaucracy ever foisted on the American people (thanks, Jimmy Carter)! It's not the federal government's job to meddle with education, per the 10th Amendment. That job begins with parents, then the local level, then the state level. It should never move beyond that. How can some cretin in DC know what the best way to educate kids would be? Of course, the NEA is beholden to the federal Dept. of Ed., so they're the problem, too.

Man, you guys have a hard time staying on topic, huh? This post was about libs getting worked up over fair voting, and it turned into something completely different.

You're still an ass though.

Stop the presses...we agree on something!

Of course I am. But I'm much like a bulldog: ugly and mean, but in a cute sort of way.

Gravatar Also, don't ever call me yummybritches again. Public schools are necessary though. Both of my parents worked to get by, and they didn't have the money to send me to a private school. If the government didn't fund public schools, then a lot of children would not have another option. I agree that a lot of the money is wasted on bureaucracy, mostly the board of education. Those people are paid a rediculous amount of money. Unfortunately, most parents these days cannot homeschool, so that's out. There are proven statistics that it has become harder and harder for single worker households to get by. Secondly, the local governments in a lot of states are too poor to take on such a task. You live in the south, you know what I am talking about. So, what option are you left with? We don't need to abort the public school system, we just need to make it more efficient.
And, I didn't bring this topic up. I was just commenting on something you said.

Gravatar Public schools are necessary though.

Never said they weren't.

We don't need to abort the public school system

Never said we should.

If the government didn't fund public schools

That's how I know you're a liberal, and for once, I'm not trying to be an ass when I say this (it's usually crystal clear when I am being an ass). You think "government" automatically means "federal government". Read the Constitution. Nothing in there exists about how it is an appropriate federal role to fund education. It's not. It's a state and local role. The 10th Amendment is clear.

Secondly, the local governments in a lot of states are too poor to take on such a task.

That's when people usually move to areas where the educational infrastructure CAN be handled better, thus alleviating the burden placed on the less efficient counties. Simply throwing money taken from taxpayers and feeding the bloated broken machine is insane.

Also, have state and local governments come up with more innovative ways to raise money. If the bureaucratic mess created from the federal government (and some are exacerbated by bloated and complex state regulations) were eliminated, much (though not all) of the funding crunch would disappear. It is wrong for states to ask the federal government to provide money beyond emergencies (and school funding, though vitally important, doesn't qualify) for operation of state services.

don't ever call me yummybritches again

That was just me being an ass, as you keenly observed. Plus, it's my blog, so I can pretty much call you whatever the hell I damned well please. Don't come to my house for dinner and complain about what's on the menu.

Gravatar "That's when people usually move to areas where the educational infrastructure CAN be handled better,"

See this is when you lose touch with reality. Most families in these areas cannot afford to just up and move. My family couldn't have just moved to a better place. One, we were in the richest town in the county already. Where the median income is a whopping $15000 a year per family. My dad couldn't afford to lose his job, and since we were going to the only public school within like 50 miles of our home, we had no choice. I am not saying that you have to apologize for being "blessed" as you put it. I am however, asking you to at least acknowledge that there are people in this country that don't have the same benefits you had. At least know, that moving is not an option for many families.

Gravatar I am however, asking you to at least acknowledge that there are people in this country that don't have the same benefits you had.

My dad was a Marine. My mom worked in a clinic in a non-physician capacity. I did not come from money. But I was (and am) still blessed.

I don't think I lose touch with reality, ma'am (see, I'm being respectful now). The families that can move, should. Those that can't need to lobby their elected leaders to secure more state funding, if they think that's what it takes. When it comes to educating your own children (and I have two, both autistic), sacrifices are to be expected.

Look, we agree on some aspects of this, and disagree on others. Fair enough. But I need to get to work, so have a good day, and (I'm being sincere), feel free to stop by and comment. As these comments have gone further, you've toned down the invective, and I can respect that.

And despite my intense disagreements with you, Fred, and Bacchus, I can still appreciate their service (and your hubby's, which also extends to you) to this country. I cannot appreciate moonbattery, however, so I hope I don't see any more. Thank you again, ma'am.

Gravatar Quit calling me ma'am. I am only 23. It makes me feel old.

Gravatar Jonathon: You know your blog is about to explode into the bigtime when you get assigned your own permament duty moonbat.

Congratulations!

Gravatar Thanks, Mike! Hard work does pay off sometimes!
