Umm, aren't these usually the same people that say the military unfairly targets minorities and the poor, yet they want to keep them off of college campuses as well? They scream, "chicken-hawk", when a Republican has a child in college, and asks, "will you send him/her to combat", yet they don't want their own children enticed while in college?!?!? I understand that this bill will also include high schools, but why the colleges? They seem to think their college aged children are quite adult enough to run around in burlap and smoke pot at NORML rallies, but (insert entity or lack thereof here) forbid they have to make their own decision when faced by a military recruiter!

What will be next? They disagree with big tobacco, so they can't recruit at job fairs either? Oh, we hate Haliburton, so they can't come in either. John Q. Public Corporation has .00001% fewer blind, homosexual, tri-racial, parapelegics with bad breath employed than the national average, so hell yes...they're out the door too!

As far as the gun law...well, in a way, it's just a little bit of natural selection. Maybe it'll help the gene pool. You don't think the career violent criminal won't pop a cap in yo azz, 'cause he is going to obey the gun law? Please make sure it's written in your obit. I'm glad I live where I live. As a side read near my home after Wilma hit...

"You loot, we shoot....AND THEN WE EAT YOU!"

Gravatar Being an old soldier, I could really go on a rant about these two subjects, but I'll spare everyone this time.

In a couple of years it will be very interesting to compare the violent crime rates between FL and SF. I'll bet SF goes sky high, like DC, while FL continues to decline. But I cannot think of another population to be victimized.

Are there any provisions in the constitution to expell a city from the union? I don't want to wait for them to attempt secession; I want to eject them now!

Gravatar "You loot, we shoot....AND THEN WE EAT YOU!"

Mmmmm...looters! The other, "other" white meat! Get in mah belly!

Gravatar Is there any wonder why the Electoral College is so important? It keeps cities like San Francisco from singlehandedly determining the outcome of presidential elections.

Yeah, that whole "one man one vote thing is a bitch," ...for Republicans that is. Without the EC, you'd have lost 3 of the last 4 presidential elections rather than just 2 of 4.

But to address J.'s absurd statement a little more directly: CA, not to mention San Francisco, is no more relevant to national elections than Orange County. CA hasn't been in play for over a decade. Republicans can't win it (and have no interest), and Democrats can't win without it.

Gravatar Catch, do you recall in 2000 that the scenario that seemed to be painted the most was that Bush could win the popular vote but Gore could win the electoral vote? Every liberal said "Yeah, well, that's the system we got...deal with it!" When the reverse scenario happened, libs didn't "deal with it" very well.

One man, one vote...what a bitch.

Then, Bush wins the 2004 election with an overwhelming popular vote margin, and left still hangs on the lost OH vote. Will you guys make up your damned mind about the Electoral College already?

Without the EC, you'd have lost 3 of the last 4 presidential elections

Yeah, and if your Mom had a package, she'd be your Dad. If worms had shotguns, birds wouldn't bother them. If frogs had wings, they wouldn't bump their ass on the ground.

You get the idea...

Gravatar Then, Bush wins the 2004 election with an overwhelming popular vote margin...

Little historical short memory there...

51% to 48.5% is "overwhelming, huh? The what do you call 49% to 41% (Clinton vs. Dole)? Or are you going to claim that every single vote that Perot got would have been Dole's? How about 3 of 4 to Dole, and we'll still call Clinton's win "really-really overwhelming!"?

And point of fact, the quote goes: "If frogs had wings, they wouldn't bump their ass a'hoppin'. "

Gravatar OK boys, go to your corners and cool off... let me get back to the subject of this post -

Having 14 years of living experience in the SF bay area, I can safely say that it is one delusional place. Its a bit like France - strangely misguided on the logical bit (albeit productive).

The prevailing belief there is that the world is not menacing, all our enemies are created through a vast conspiracy that drives the military industrial complex (or are simply misunderstood) - and if everyone grew their own vegetables, smoked organic pot, fully blamed their parents and fashion magazines for all their short-comings, freed their chakras though Bikram yoga, and gave up the silly idea of "absolutes" or "morality" we would live in harmony.

And thats why I left.

Gravatar 51% to 48.5% is "overwhelming, huh?

Actually, yeah..it is. As is the 3 million plus vote margin.

I tell ya, Catch, your shit is almost too easy. You libs bragged about Gore's "massive" and "whopping" 500,000 popular vote margin over Bush in 2000. Yet being the product of government schools that you are, you lefties seemed to fail Math 101, which clearly shows that "3,000,000 > 500,000."

So, to translate your math-challenged drivel:

Gore's 0.5 million popular vote margin? Huge, decisive, and quite the mandate (no Barney Frank or other SF reference intended). Bush's 3+ million popular vote margin? Miniscule, puny, and underwhelming.

The what do you call 49% to 41% (Clinton vs. Dole)?

I call it two things:

1. An electoral asskicking; and
2. Clinton's second win without a majority of the popular vote.

However, remaining consistent, I still assert that Clinton's electoral college majorities in '92 and '96 legitimized his election and re-election much more than even the popular vote totals (42% and 49% sub-majorities, respectively).

Really, Catch...your anemic math-challenged retort was the best you could do? I'm disappointed, I don't mind tellin' ya...

Gravatar Well, Kira, according to Catch, you left a virtual paradise...a panacea of progress...a virtual utopia.

Then again, you actually lived there. So your experiences, along with what I outlined in this post, pretty much tells me all I need to know about Moonbat City.

Did you smell like patchouli after you got near the locals?

Gravatar Actually, yeah..it is. As is the 3 million plus vote margin...

I tell ya, Catch, your shit is almost too easy...

So, to translate your math-challenged drivel...

"math-challenged"? Cute. Well, call it what you will, but here's a metric even you can understand. The differential between Clinton and Dole was 8 million+ votes. So I guess we're back to the fact that Clinton's victory was "really, really overwhelming." As opposed to Bush's victory which, to use your words, was merely "overwhelming."

As for Gore/Bush. I didn't bring it up. So why go on some long winded tear about it as if I had.

You better stop now. You're embarrassing yourself.

Gravatar The differential between Clinton and Dole was 8 million+ votes. So I guess we're back to the fact that Clinton's victory was "really, really overwhelming."

Yeah...it was. I thought I covered that with the "electoral asskicking" comment. Sorry if that confused you.

As for Gore/Bush. I didn't bring it up.

Indirectly, you did...when you referenced how "if not for the EC, you'd have lost 3 of the last 4 elections." That includes 2000. That's when I decided to address the nonsense that your side pushed about the importance of Gore's popular vote margin...only to dismiss that same position four years later.

Your side pulls a Kerry and flip-flops on the popular vote vs. EC vote argument...and I am the one embarassing myself? Whatever, my friend...

Gravatar OK guys, Kira said to cool off, not quit. I'm getting bored waiting for the sparing to resume.

On points, I have Jon ahead.

Gravatar Thanks, Lee. If we were being graded on points for amusement factor, I'd call up Catch to offer my concession!

Gravatar - "Surrender!"

- "You wish to surrender to me? Very well...I accept."

But seriously...and slightly tangentially. Bill O'Reilly, in his broadcast yesterday, committed...what?...incitement to violence, by calling for Al Qaeda to attack San Francisco over the military recruiting ban.

Ah..."fair, balanced, and homicidal."

Gravatar Did O'Reilly really say that? I'll take your word for it, since I didn't see or hear it. Which leads me to say...

"What an asshole!"

Clearly, my disgust for SF is palpable, but as much as I think their anti-military attitude is stupid, I don't wish an al Qaeda attack on them...and I suspect that's nearly universally shared.

When 9/11 struck, there were scores of Southerners who wore "I (heart) NY" hats and shirts. NY and the South go together about as well as oil and water, but good grief...they're still Americans.

And yes, as much as I dislike the moonbats in SF and much of CA, I'd be roaring mad if they were attacked, too.

If O'Reilly was being literal, then it's irresponsible at best, and reprehensible at worst.

Gravatar Some links on the O'Reilly business:
Mine
AGITPROPs

Both link through to Media Matters.

And on a personal note, your soft spot for us Left Coasters is touching. Brings a tear to me eye.

Gravatar Aw, Catch...you had me with you until you mentioned Media Matters. We'll have to agree to disagree on how reliable MM is!

Don't cry, man...have a Coke and a smile!

Gravatar Well, quote's a quote. I saw it reported a few other places as well.

Gravatar Well, quote's a quote. I saw it reported a few other places as well.

Fair enough, man. I was just giving you a hard time about MM because they'd been one of the moonbat sites peddling the "Bush stole OH" conspiracy theory.

Like I said, though, I don't dispute the quote, since I never heard or saw O'Reilly say it. Plus, he's a blowhard jerk anyway, so I guess I can see him saying something that stupid. I'll take your word for it.

Gravatar ...and they all lived happily ever after

Gravatar Kira, that's just damned wrong, Woman!
