It's sad that politics has sunk so low. It's also ridiculous that something potentially said umpteen years ago, and not exactly verifiable, is brought out in an attempt to disgrace a sitting Senator, ex-Governor and former Congressman.

Personally, I'm sick to death of people complaining of the dreaded "N-word". Who cares? Channel surfed by BET lately? Besides Ho's and Bitches, Nigga's just about every other word in the lyrics.

Anyone who's lived in the South has either said it and meant it, or said it just to say it. That includes me here in Virginia. It's long past this kind of "dirt" stopped sticking to anything, much less a political campaign.

I hope the Webb Campaign receives a serious backlash for pulling this stunt.

Gravatar The really disgusting part is that when Allen's opponent Webb was asked if he had ever used the "n-word" himself, he wouldn't answer the question and refused to deny that he had. But of course, he gets a pass from the MSM.

This is just another dirty trick from the DNC playbook. When you can't beat a Republican fairly....lob the "race bomb" and then hammer it in until it sticks.

Gravatar give me a break - the webb campaign had absolutely nothing to do with this.

allen started it with the whole macacca thing - he should have just apologized (right away) and moved on, but instead he offered a million and one different reasons he said the word. then he trots out 3 former naval officers (women) to criticize an editorial jim webb wrote 27 years ago about why women shouldn't fight when allen himself spoke out against women entering the VMI. jim webb, when he was Reagan's secretary of the Navy, created a lot more opportunities for women in the military so bringing up something from the past, when the general consensus was exactly the same as what webb wrote, helped bring this virginia election down into the gutter.

now all we hear about are people from the past from both sides remembering this and remembering that - it is ridiculous and there is no way to prove any of it. people of virginia deserve better than this he said she said crap. let's talk about the issues. unfortunately for allen, when we do that, he comes up short.

i saw jim webb speak the other day (with barack obama - it was awesome) and he is a very intelligent and savvy man - not a politician that can be bought or swayed by lobbyists. he is a libertarian and a military hero who spoke out against the iraq war BEFORE we went - no arm-chair quarterbacking with him.

i would ask that before you immediately write him off because he is a democrat, to actually listen to what he has to say. you might find that you agree with him a lot more than you care to admit. a lot of republicans are moving over to webb, i hope on November 8th, he is our new senator.

jonathan - miami was a blast.
