It can be said that Katrina, like lynching, not only destroyed the work of generations in a single day, but is resulting in a deliberate effort to dispossess black landholders.
A) the majority of people involved here DIDN'T WORK - they were on the government dole.
B) Hurricanes are now racist?
And the NAACP wonders why no one takes them seriously...

Colin Powell: As the 65th United States Secretary of State (2001-05) under President George W. Bush, Powell became the highest ranking African American government official in the history of the United States.
That was after being the first and (to date) only African American to serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff under another Republican.
Condoleezza Rice: As the 66th United States Secretary of State (2005-present) under President George W. Bush, Rice is the first African American woman to serve as Secretary of State.
Man, that Bush really does hate blacks!
That mentality makes me want to be a racist. I do so loathe reverse discrimination, as well. But my aversion is for the twisting of the truth and not calling a spade a spade.
First of all:
Hiring two educated, priviledged African Americans does not excuse the abandonment of tens of thousands of people whose lives have been impoverished by racist policies. Both Democrats and Republicans have guilty members in this category.
Let me say one thing about "Racist" Hurricanes: Storms, maybe not. Neglect that led to the degree of this catastrophe: very, very racist, historically so.
This catastrophe was made most serious by the severe lack of care for the industrialized communities on the gulf.
FOR THE LAST TWENTY YEARS, THE COUNTRY'S MOST TOXIC INDUSTRIES AND WASTES HAVE BEEN STRATEGICALLY SOLD TO POOR COMMUNITIES AND BASED IN COMMUNITIES OF COLOR. If you move up the income scale, this discrepancy remains between racial groups. THE FACT IS: TOXIC WASTE IS MOSTLY WHERE BLACK AND BROWN FAMILIES LIVE, REGARDLESS OF INCOME. ABANDONED LEVIES, HISTORICALLY DISADVANTAGEOUS LAND, POORLY MAINTAINED INFRASTRUCTURES: BLACK AND BROWN FAMILIES WERE PLACED THERE BY RACIST WHITES. UNDER THE SAME RHETORIC, OUR GOVERNMENT ABANDONED THEM AND IS NOW USING THEIR FORCED ABSENCE ***NOW BY THE MARINES AND NATIONAL GUARD, WHO WON'T LET PEOPLE BACK IN THEIR OWN HOMES***TO HIRE HALIBURTON AND THE REST OTHER RICH CONTRACTORS TO GENTRIFY THE ENTIRE AREA.
Saying this isn't due to racist policies is a misled way of making ignorant but privileged white folks feel better about the fact that this didn't happen to them. Poor white folks hit by Katrina lost out too, but the majority that drowned in a toxic, rotting stew after the storm was a slew of poor black communities that have suffered racist policies for generations.
This is still going on.
