You're right about the Contract With America, but you're still wrong about the Schiavo case. And you think it's strange agreeing with Barney Frank? Try agreeing with Jesse Jackson! That's been quite a shock to my system.
Anyway, you're starting to sound like a Democrat complaining about the "religious extremists". Those "extremists" make up a big portion of the party, and they were a key factor in getting this president re-elected.
Comparing them to Deaniacs is ridiculous. Try getting a Republican candidate elected with just the libertarian wing...won't happen.
You need a refresher course in Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment.
But the Contract...you're right on.

Try getting a democrat elected without the Deaniacs. It is a valid comparison. It's the "base".

But that's my point...the Democrat hasn't been elected 7 out of 10 of the last presidential elections.

Bush isn't on thin ice with anyone. He was overspending by leaps and bounds in his first term and his politicies regarding immigration have been a joke for as long as he's been at the white house. But he got voted in, didn't he? Now people say that if anyone other than Kerry had been running, Bush might have lost, but I believe that Americans are generally supporting Republicans. That is why Republicans are in charge of the House, the senate and the white house. Most Americans don't think of issues like immigration as being a huge problem. That isn't like paying at the pump or having more taxes taken out of your paycheck. People don't view it on an everyday basis unless they're living in a border state and that is why our govt. can push it aside and use immigration for cheap labor and votes. The immigration issue truly enrages me, but who was I supposed to vote for, Kerry?
