Um, welcome. And congratulations on what may be the most bizarre comment I've ever had on my blog.

I suppose in rural Georgia you can just go down to the store and buy muslin bags for hams?
I can't wait to hear how it comes out. How long will it hang?

"buy muslin bags"
It's not an old pillowcase?
I bet that cider method is fab - we're doing pork chops marinated in cider for a dinner party tonight, it's our favorite tenderizing method.

Liz - Anytime you can get down to Georgia!!
cookiecrumb - Maybe somewhere, you never know! LOL. But I just whipped this bag up on my sewing machine and pressed grommets into it with a grommet setter. 5 or 10 minutes' work.
The ham only needs to hang for a day or so, but it can stay for a while if need be. Then it will need to be soaked, boiled, and roasted. *drool*
Szarka - A pillowcase might not have been strong enough, I think. The ham weighs 19.5 lbs., so I made the bag double thickness.
Pork and apples are best pals, aren't they?

Grommets. Hah, yes. My mom used to have a snapper setter, so I understand. You are quite the crafter.
Now, you have heard about roasting the ham with gobs of sauerkraut around it in the pan? I learned this from an ephemeral visitor to my blog (she vanished), and it's myorghhmm good. Good, I tell you!

You can hang the ham outside and nothing attacks it? My dogs would find a way to build a ladder or use each other to build a tower (Biscuit on top, of course). I won't even go into the wild critters that would attract at my place, but we do have the shed...

Miraculously, nothing (and no one) bothered it. Maybe because it was on the front porch and it looked like a human head?
The ham is now inside doing a 12- to 24-hour soak.
