Jimson weed or a algae implanted with (or genetically selected for) the jimson weed genetic characteristic of absorbing heavy metals and then digested in a waste digestor down to the mineral level, the whole process powered by renewable power.
Now thats a practical remediation scheme. It could even clean the Hudson River mud contaminated by GE pcbs. And in that case be powered by river current power generators and solar.
The final product is consentrated heavy metals and toxins, that can then be recycled or b5roken down further to safe constituent molecules.
Byproducts are energy, clean water, and biofuels.
