Biofuels are not an answer, sadly.
Forests will be cleared to make space to grow them. The new cash-crops will displace edible crops leading to famine.
Even then, it will be impossible to meet even a fraction of current demand for fuel.
We need to say goodbye to the internal combustion engine and rethink our lifestyles radically.
But frankly, I don't see that happening.

I've gotta agree with Quixotematic. Another issue: How much nitrogen fertilizer (manufactured from non-renewable natural gas) is used to grow the crops used to make biofuels?
