Wanna bet?

Gravatar I must say, Gore's speech was pretty comprehensive and well thought out. I mean, things like Connie Mae and 2030, etc. He's laying out the debate and providing workable solutions. The carbon freeze--a nice way to get going on the Kyoto Accord, is a great idea.

My favorite: Gore hit on an important point. Command economies, while they want to reduce their carbon emissions and pollution, don't have the innovation in their human capital like Americans do. We need to get on the technology, understand it, license it, export it, and do whatever it takes to be the leader in energy innovation. Right now, I think Australia might be winning that race, but we can make good business finding answers to some of the environmental problems.

Nice post, susta.

Gravatar The link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues.

The fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle of Industrial Society is causing exponential rise in psychological problems besides destroying the environment. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds cannot be peaceful when attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. Our Minds cannot be peaceful if we destroy Nature.

Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment.

Subject : In a fast society slow emotions become extinct.
Subject : A thinking mind cannot feel.
Subject : Scientific/ Industrial/ Financial thinking destroys the planet.
Subject : Environment can never be saved as long as cities exist.

Gravatar I agree w/ your post in total Jeff except for the part about diehard Dem. My bro-inlaw is a reasonable conservative but he and others I know, HATE Gore for some reason unbeknowst to me. So his type will dismiss this speech sight unseen. Which is sadly unfortunate because we need the whole middle class on board w/ this to get Washington to move fast enough. I came away from "I-Truth" w/the thought that we really need a McCain narated copy to reach the conservatives. Same goes for this speech. Still, ya gotta love Gore's courage & at the moment he's our best hope.
PS: great meeting you at Green Drink. The panel was a little to high on ethanol (no pun intnd) & I felt they shortchanged PIHV's. This is where our technology must go if we are to retain any semblance of our current mobility. Clean wind & solar generated electricity combined w/ a plug in,flex fuel hybrid is THE only techno salvation w/ the potential to allow a smooth transition to "Powder Down"

Gravatar I don't like Gore because of:

The Bush hating.

The mania (contesting the 2000 election, Mountain man makeover)

The fact that he exerted no influence on eviromental issues when he was VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

Gravatar I applaud the effort of anyone bringing the issue into the light like he does. He's by no means alone in this effort, but it's still worth commending whether you personally like Al Gore or not. This isn't about the messenger nearly as much as it's about the message. I believe that Al Gore is on to something with his ideas and can only hope that his influence will impact enough voters to make sure that voters demand this of their elected officials regardless of whom that might be.

Gravatar It's good to have someone giving us solutions to problems rather than just pointing out the problem and telling us who's to blame for it. Even though I wouldn't support Gore in any political role I think he is making an impact with his environmental saavy. Unfortunately, in this country, we can put politics into anything. Until we can put away the politics and find people to elect that are willing to stick there neck out for the environment and not for the special intrests the green movement will be a slow process.

Gravatar Good on Gore, as they say in Australia.

I agree that this is a significant and HOPEFUL speech that proposes solutions that exist today.
He expresses some powerful and simple ideas that could help us begin to climb out of the hole we find ourselves in.

More discussion of the ideas (and less about the personality behind the ideas) is certainly welcome. I guess many people are just not equiped to consider new concepts, so they resort to attacking the messenger. Unfortunate.
