Gravatar A problem with designs such as this: the architect (in this case it is not surprising, given his atheism and far left politics, ditto Niemeyer) has little, if any, thought for the function of music in the liturgy. The sound rises to the top, making it difficult to sing and difficult for the organ to be heard. Another example of this type of montrosity is Saint Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco. The acoustics are horrid. Saint Mary's has a 5,000 pipe Ruffati organ - but to be heard, its builders had to make it brash and aggressive in tone. Even so, those on the east side of the nave can barely hear it.
