Gravatar Thanks for the insights about this year's Krob entries.

Gravatar You're welcome! KRob is a neat event, and AIA Dallas has started to notice its potential to become an even larger forum on drawing for people around the world.

Gravatar Thanks for making me aware of this drawing competition and this year's winners. It is good to see some beautiful hand drawings still being produced, alongside computer graphics (many of these also beautiful!).

I have to say though, I am surprised that the mechanical tower axonometric drawing won the hand-drawing student category. I can't help thinking the judges were trying to read more mystery into it than is really there. Judged on the basis of beauty, and technique, I personally think it is lacking, and not worthy of the prize.

I don't like to be critical and I hope the student himself doesn't read this! But this is what I think.

Gravatar heartwood,

It just goes to show you that the results are at the hands of the judges. Being in the room, I can say that the initial response to the piece was pretty ho-hum. But every time they looked at it, they became more and more intrigued by it. There were other works that were close to taking the prize but which ended up being finalists.

I had no say in the selections, but bear in mind that the minds of architecture academics work a bit differently from you and I.
