I often thought about escaping to a monastary the minute the doors opened for crazed shoppers coming in to honor a more widely acknowledged holiday, Black Friday.
This was a well-written post. The shortcomings of materialism are never stressed enough. So many addictions thrive on the belief that material circumstances will bestow a state of happiness on the recipient. If a person can release himself from this dependency, he will find he has a soul that needs nourishment.
I wish you a belated merry Christmas (technically, the wisemen haven't arrived yet, so it's still Christmas time), and a happy new year. As long as people still write, and think, and blog; there'll always be hope for a better world.

Thanks the the thoughts. And yes it is still Christmas I believe until Jan. 6. I believe it was my dog destroying some carpet that led me to this post. No matter how hard one tries, it's hard to conquer the material world. Sometimes, it's a relief to know you don't have to.

Its a shame the church wasn't destroyed for good so they couldn't spend their free time touching little boys. The revolution seems to have done wonders for France. They have (had?) a 35 hour work week and healthcare for all. The aristocracy was put down because many people didn't have food to eat and they did not care. I say good riddance.
