I think you forgot the "Huckster" type!
In my experience .... not so long on the creativity ..... not so strong on the technical ability .... not so engaged with the work ethic .... these ones are focussed on the earning and wealth potential of their field.
Now these guys have BULLHORNS ..... promoters of projects and self they may be the firm's rainmaker or would be deal broker.
For me the end of my wish to pursue the architectural field as a vocation was a handful of poseurs at college.

You're quite right that I forgot about that personality type. As you indicate, hucksters kind of fall in between the designer and the technical type and they are usually not that great in either of those roles. Still, they are important to a firm who depends on getting a constant flow of projects through the door, since a firm is as only as viable as its rainmakers.
Still, I sometimes cringe when they talk to their own staff because they sugarcoat the news with heavy doses of unwarranted optimism. They also deny there's ever a serious problem in the way things are done at the firm, and they constantly reiterate how much better we are over the competition if it isn't obvious.
It's all flattery, boosterism and self-congratulation. The problem from my point of view is that it comes off as so obviously insincere, to the point that when they venture into being pretend intellectuals, they can never be taken seriously by their technically and aesthetically capable staff.
Yet this shallow intellectualism seems to work wonders on developers and local politicians, which may be the reason why I'm not too miserable working among architects.
