To those that defend legislation such as HR 4437 as patriotic I say to you that it is not patriotic to be racist. Some wrongly believe that this legislation will protect our nation from future terrorist attacks but the facts have proven that not one of the 911 hijackers crossed the US border with Mexico or wired money out of the US to help support their families.
As a concerned citizen I am just appalled at such mean spirited legislation. The simple truth is that we are all immigrants and immigrants have always been the source of our national identity.

"hey are bringing negative attention on themselves, and will only increase the fear-factor among the citizenry against illegals."
Those who would like to shut others up would say such a thing.
If citizens only knew the real facts. Illegal immigratns are rebuiliding New Orleans - LEGALLY.
They generate millions of dollars for local economies, tax, and have reflourished dying and slow neighborhoods. What is there to fear? Ignorance.

That could be true. But, you are still missing the point that matters. Americans don't want multiculturalism. Waving Mexican flags makes American's wonder where these immigrant's loyalties lie? The point is, wherever you stand on the issue, protesting wrapped in Mexican flags is not helping.
I would consider myself a moderate on this issue, welcoming the increase of immigration quotas so immigrants can come in legaly, while making sure our borders are secure and the law is enforced. But, these mass-rallies make it dificult for moderate ideas to take hold, and enbolden the nativists and racists.

err...there were plenty of American flags waving there...(check my site tomorrow for the proof)....
"Americans don't want Multiculture..."? Say that to all the Mexican/latino resturants popping up.

I agree 100% with you Josue. I teach middle school, mostly hispanic, and I'm curious to hear what they have to say today.
One student was asking me on Friday about "They want to build a wall, and that's just wrong..." Of course they, and even most of the protestors, don't grasp the idea that we are governed by laws. You can't just walk into the USA and live here. Yes we're the land of opportunity, the American dream, all that stuff...but you have to do it legally!
I get tired of hearing the "we built this country" or "I've lived here 30 years and now I'm a criminal" nonsense. Get legal and stop bitching!
Adding you to my regular blogs. Keep it up.
