Latino Issues :: A Conservative Blog

I am new to your blog. I found you when I was checking on blogs that link to mine.
I am torn about the issue of immigration. My son married a girl from Venezuela. He went through (and they are still going through) the legal process to get her here and it has not been cheap. I don't think the process should be free but it is quite a mountain to climb for people of modest means. My daughter in law is STILL waiting for legal papers. I appreciate our government and I know they have to be careful but it has been a VERY difficult process.
I can understand why those that have come here illegally.....they can't afford to come legally. SO, it is hard for me. I am too close to the issue.

I grew up on the border, "wetbacks" were a part of my life for the past 42 years, and prior to that my father's life and my father's father's life: I have an excellent wide-brimmed hat an illegal gave my dad in the 1950s, and during the Mexican Revolution an illegal gave my grandfather his Mexican issue rifle.

That said, we have to control our borders. The fact that most who are crossing are good people who are simply seeking a better life is besides the point; we can not have people entering this country at their will. Perhaps after slowing the flow, we should make legal immigration easier. But the "slowing" must come first.

Don, I agree. Stop the flow. Then we can talk about legal immigration.
