Latino Issues :: A Conservative Blog

Well said, I couldn't agree more.

I work in East Los Angeles and many of the workers in our company are immigrants. I'm curious to see who, if any, miss work on Monday. Both the Republican and Demcrats are on their side. No matter how they color it, i.e. temporary work permits, it is Amnesty they will eventually offer. However, if immigrants continue with the walkouts, the marches, the disrespect to our National Anthem, they only do themselves a disservice. Americans are getting tired of the 'in your face' attitude and sense of entitlement. Assimilation is the only way.

First off, congrats on the Malkin hit. We need to get out there more, to get our message out.

Second, I agree with Linda, you said it. There is just no two ways about it.

Much ado about nothing.

Out of 135 college students that I teach this semester, more than half the native-born Americans didn't even know the words to the national anthem. And one-third couldn't pass a ten-question citizenship test.

latinos need to integrate into the american way, not trying to change our way of life and the latest fiasco the national anthem, well that my friends, took the cake.

My grandfather, a dutch immigrant by way of Canada, came here legally then worked long and hard to become an American citizen. All of his children gave up the dutch language and became exemplary citizens. When I posted a short story about it some reconquista punk busted my chops for it ( you can read it all here ) but he never would answer my question: Why should these illegals be given what our families are still paying for?

Richard, while not knowing the anthem is inexcusable, it's not an excuse. Just b/c they don't know the anthem does not mean it is still a symbol of this nation, as much as the flag, and should be kept as is.

Even naturallized citizens, after a while, cannot all pass the citizenship test. I know if I give that test to my parents they will both fail it. They probably don't know all the words of the anthem either, but they made sure we knew what it meant and what it stands for, and that we learned to respect it and this nation which is my nation.

If immigrants don't know the Pledge of Allegiance or the National Anthem, I suppose I shouldn't expect them to know the meaning of the latin words; E Pluribus Unum.

You can be proud of your heritage but you need to be reverential about your fealty to the United States of America. Assimilation is the key to the strength of America.

In the meantime, protest is alive and well in our great country. Feel free to give up a day's pay or worse and march on May 1.

As for me, I will spend Cinco de Mayo away from all things Mexican and devote the entire day to supporting our troops in harm's way. You lost my sympathy when I saw the students from Montebello fly the Mexican flag atop the upside down American flag.

Fortunately, the Mexican radical left is in the minority.

We need to remind our Senators and Representatives who elected them and whose interest they are supposed to represent, the citizesn of the U.S. not illgegal aliens. I think we all should email or otherwise contact them on Monday, May 1.

Though I must repsect the eloquent way in which you have presented your opinion, I couldn't disagree with it more. You say it is a disrespect to sing the national anthem in Spanish. Why? They aren't singing bad about the nation in Spanish, they're singing exactly what you sing when you go to a baseball game--except in their language. I think it is better for them to be able to understand what the song says, you can't have passion for something you don't understand. Also, the translation was prepared by the U.S Department of Education in 1919, way before all this junk, to inspire patriotism in Hispanics, and that's exactly what it still does today.

So, why don't people learn English. I talk to over 50 monolingual immigrants on a daily basis. They're main reasons are that they don't need it and that it's too much work. They don't need it because here, especially in Texas, everyone (or enough people to get around, just as many as English speakers) speaks Spanish anyway. And it's an unreasonable amount of work for them because these are not educated intellects, mind you, these are mostly poor people who were willing to give up the little they had in their country for a chance at a better life, and why go through the trouble of an education if you don't need it?

Aue! se'i e vaai, le malama o ataata mai
This is the Samoan translation of the Star Spangled Banner. There are also German (1861), French, Polish, Yiddish and many other versions.

Also, President Bush sang the anthme in spanish at a campaign event. So maybe this is all outrage to ditract from the piss poor job they are doing running the country, and you people are all hot and bothered.

I believe an invited guest should be thankful and courteous to the gracious host. Accepting the hospitality offered includes accepting and honoring the rules of the house as set by the owner. You don't complain about what is set before you at the table, you thankfully eat. You adopt the customs of the house you are a guest in. You offer to help the host or hostest with any challenge they may be facing. You work quickly to stand on your own so that you may return the hospitality as soon as possible. The previous generations cringe at the lack of respect shown by young, radicalized, un-invited guest to the USA.

If anyone is interested in the song, it is now available on Itunes, just search for "Nuestro Himno"

Adam Kidron, creator of Nuestro Himno from UBO, now has a blog with a very interesting view of the song, entitled "Fear of a Latino Planet". You can view is here:

I love the United States, but I think that
United States, like other countries, can be loved in many languages. Love is sweet in all languages!
