Latino Issues :: A Conservative Blog

Thanks for the clarification on racism vs. the rule of law regarding immigration. So often, any meaningful debate on immigration is cut short when the 'R' word is thrown out.
Being a Hispanic, and a conservative too, you probably occupy a very uncrowded, but sane, part of the blogosphere.

Good Luck

Josue, great post. It is so hard to get this point across!

Great post, Josue. I sympathize with many illegals because their home countries are such basketcases but we do need to have a rule of law here in the U.S. I suppose that if the public felt reasonably convinced that border security was good that they would support higher numbers of legal immigrants.

I think you definitely nailed it. I am a Latino New Yorker and I must say that we have many illegals in this city. It's very frustrating to hear fellow hispanics cry out racism whenever someone (white/ non-white) points out that "undocumented immigrants" are breaking our laws.

I think the United States has been very lenient about allowing millions of uneducated, unskilled people to stay in this country despite not having their docs. There are many people who wait many years to come into this country; My father was one of them.

I hope our politicians and law enforcement agencies get serious about handling this critical issue. It's not racism. It's called respecting our laws!

I'm a REGISTERED DEMOCRAT and I couldn't agree with you more! I find it SHOCKING that people cry RACE whenever ICE, INS or Homeland Security conduct one of these raids.

I also find it SHOCKING how people persistently ABUSE the terms RACIAL PROFILING & STEREOTYPING.

I'm not a Latino or even a minority. But its REFRESHING to see that SOMEONE who IS a minority shares the same view on the issue as I do.

One final note, if these illegal immigrants really want to stay in this country, they should either A). Put together a business plan (As you indicated in your post), get a loan from the SBA and open up a small business of some kind.

Ohh but they'd need to be LEGAL CITIZENS to do that, wouldn't they? Ohh well...Them's the way the cookie crumbles, now isn't it?

Gee....This has got me so fired up, I think I'll edit this and cross-post it to my own blog (Making sure to place a link back to you of course ).

People need to stop being so afraid of that R word. It has stifled open debate, policy decisions on illegal immigration & overall security & foreign policy decisions.

When political correctness leads to lack of discourse or action then all of us, black, white, brown suffer equally.

Thank you, Very well put. Tule of law, that's what sets the United States apart from many other Latin countries. I will be sharing this with my Hispanic/Latino and non-Latino friends and family.

Hey Josue mi amigo stop been so races and bias you dont fool anybody you are just going through some identity problem you want to be white but you problably look latino just trying to fit in arent you. I am a 100 percnt latino and your blog sucks. The rule of the law right, who are you fooling yourself . The law da the anglos broke firts to benefice thenselves with cheap labor from this people, and now we dont want then so you need to go back because is not popular right i love replublican hypocrecy .But is okay for the employees to brake the law by hiring this people ilegal why?Tip :You lead by example. Lets put and charge all this company da hire ilegals in jail for braking the law and then i would agree with you .Keep it honest brother and by the way i am not mexican .

Rey, learn to spell, then come back and leave comments. And don't talk to me like you know who I am or what I am. If you are going to make stupid comments about my post, read through the rest of my blog before you show your ignorance of what I believe or not. We are clearly not brothers (not sure what gave you that idea).

Josue i took the time to brouse your blog and is all the same tipycal replubican bias and hidding races agenda, i know my spelling is not that good but, i do know how to get my point across and is very clear i hit a nerve .I dont know you dont care to know you . If you cant take the heat when somebody challenge your norrow thinking get out of the kitchen. The conservative movement has grow in this country because nobody is taking a stand againts this bias movement that want to opress the rest of the population especially minorities and ,so call latinos like you, arent helping anybody exect your selfish agenda I believe in the rule of the law but is has to start at the top , if politicians ignored the problem and were looking the other way and then bussineses took advantage of the situation we should start looking at then for they failure of imposing the law .They said that we are measure by the battles we take , people that enganged on the less fortune and the one that cannt defent itself is a bully and a coward in my book. But that is just my opinion .So if you are really a honest and non bias or races, start talking about everybody else that created this imigration problem, this imigrants are just victims of this selffish system that republican or so call christian conservatives had implemented in this country,, me ,me ,me.Stop your winning and critizing everybody that does not look or talk like you, i know my spelling sucks and my english too but My Espanol is perfecto.and that is who i am proud to be 100 percent latino and i will speak spanish anywhere and i wont let people like you to take my rights as a person. And another thing i dont called myself a christian conservative but in my faith your are my brother even if we disagree so if you were offended by my calling brother check your bible. Tip: A true latino blog would be in spanish so stop fooling yourself because your are not fooling anybody and let me clarify something your blog doesnt suck it stink

LOLOLOLOLOLOL.... ok.

The whole idea of "racism" however does not come from the fact that these raids are happenning, but in the manner that they are happening. There are entire families, including children being held in immigration jails, which is illegal to do, there are immigrants dying in jail because ICE decides to encarserate them for a year before sending them back to their countries. There have been a flood of reports of immigrants gone missing, families that say that their family members were taken by immigration and they dissapeared. A guy died after having a heart attack, and not receiving medical attention for 30 minutes after his heart attack. I'm an immigrant myself, but family realized that it was a crime to be living as an immigrant in the U.S, so they decided to get in line for a green card. I've experienced first hand the hardships of putting your life on the line just to be able to have food on the table. I do agree that the U.S is doing the right thing by securing the borders and having a tighter hold on the immigration policies, the governments job is to protect its citizens, however the way they do it.... is a totally different issue.

This is an unfortunate blog; ignorant and ethnocentric (yes, even coming from a Hispanic). Your demagoguery, however well written, fails to consider the philosophical viewpoint that anti-immigration policy stems from.

Danny, What philosophical viewpoint is that? And where do I write about anti-immigration? I am very much in favor of immigration (of the legal kind). The fact that our immigration system is broken does not give everyone a right to circumvent it--I don't see how any philosophy has anything to do with that? Please explain.

The issue of immigration is the subject your blog post, and your sentiments reflect a general anti-immigration stance.
As noted, you are in favor of legal immigration and do not believe that immigrants should operate outside this legal framework. Your argument deals with legality and is inclusively indisputable. But once again, your argument is philosophically shallow.
There are (and always have been) policies and procedures in this country that are driven by ignorance and hate. This is the viewpoint to which I refer. Hard line anti-illegal immigration procedure, like the ones cited in your blog, only reinforce policies that were first instilled out of xenophobia, regardless of other justification.
There is countless sociological and historical evidence to support this. Unfortunately, these types of policies also reinforce and justify further hateful behavior & policy...much like the Jim Crow laws.
As a country we've witnessed that there are times when it is necessarily to act outside of legality because people's freedoms are being trampled on or, in this situation, ignored.
This may not directly comparable, especially when illegal-immigration is pursued as a personal benefaction. But the idea that we can fight (legally and otherwise) policy that is hateful and WRONG will never loose weight in this country.
On a personal level, I consider it unfortunate that some who is so well spoken chooses such a stance. Once again, there is nothing wrong with your argument, it is just shallow.

Great article. Please add our two sites under your "Hispanic Conservative Blogs" list. We would be honored. Click here to view both site.

Great article!! Can you please add your blog to the iHispano.com blog? I think these are issues that the Latino community needs to be made aware of.

I came across iHispano.com and its a great site! Its a professional latino website where all different latino topics are covered and discussed. It's also a job board where Latinos who are looking for a job can apply.

Check it out! I am sure you will get great feedback on your blogs!

Kind of stumbled upon this site, but wanted to say hi as I also have a conservative blog (although not latino).

Very interesting, and wanted to know if you will continue posting?

Thank you for some very thought provoking ideas.

The war on Mexico has been going on for some time now. The fact that we've built a wall, began to crack down on illegal Mexicans (let's stop saying 'immigrants' shall we? We all know this is about Mexicans), and now a swine flu from Mexico scare? Just call it 'Mexican Flu', and tell all Americans that Mexicans are killing us...

As, a Hispanic, who came to this country legally, I find your post appalling and plagued with ignorance. I, too, used to think that illegal immigrants had no business in the country especially after all that I had been through trying to get a visa, renewing them, and then applying for a green card. I thought that the notion of someone being able to cross the border and then 'magically' becoming legal through amnesty was preposterous, especially after all the time and money it took me to get all my papers settled. However, those ideas are not only selfish, but based on misconceptions and ignorance. Firstly, if you came to this country legally you should consider yourself privileged. The reality is that in order to enter this country legally there is only one requirement (in my experience) and that is money. Have you ever thought about the expenses of filing all that paper work just to enter this country? How does anyone expect migrant workers or those from poverty stricken places to come here legally when they can't even begin to afford the cost of a visa, much less a green card? How can you criminalize these people when they are only trying to look out for their families. The problem is not the immigrants, but the system. These workers are never given a chance to abide by the law, its either cross illegally and not at all, and not crossing can mean hardship for their families.
Although I agree that the underlying problem is in the governments of Latin America, your response to this problem is superficial. How can you expect these people to protest when many of them have to fight for survival everyday? Have you forgotten, unlike the U.S. many Latin American countries have severely oppressive governments and policies. Although deemed as democracies few of these governments truly function as such. Also, how can you expect some of these people to get loans? Again, this is a superficial response to the problem. The bottom line is that nobody enjoys leaving their home or leaving their family members behind only to venture to a strange land where one does not speak the language and is many times discriminated against. No rational or sane person does this, unless they have no choice. Many places in Latin America do not offer any opportunities for its people. Those who risk everything crossing the border do it because they see no other alternative for their families.
Yes, the immigration issue must be addressed; however, criminalizing these people, throwing them in jails, and dehumanizing them is not solving anything.

After going through this article I have decided to bookmark this site found this really interesting & thanks a lot for keeping the blog Lively with such interesting blogs.
