Spitfire were one ofthose band who,for a period in th eearly 90s, ALWAYS seemed to be a support bandat every gig I went to. Seem to remeber them supporting the Verve at the New Cross Venue, but that may be my memory playing tricks....Gene Loves Jezebel were another band who ALWAYS seemed to be third on th ebill but at gigs in the early/mid 80s.

Hey Joe, enjoyed the piece, pretty accurate really apart from the pornstar sample, which was actually Liam Watson's friend, who had popped in to play hammond on a few tracks, a shaven haired feminist who did the track in one take, one of the few tracks I still love, but I suppose you had to be there... we hadn't lost any of our humour, the recording of second album was rushed not only because of financial reasons but because brother Nick was expecting his third child, whilst Cath was heavily pregnant with our 5th! Such sensible boys. Oh, and you you can also find a naked pair of breasts on the first single, Translucent and on the lable of the vinyl Superbaby too..we didn't change too much, just trying to keep something...a spirit..? alive. cheers... Nick said the piece made him laugh.

Hey Jeff,
Thanks for the comments. Yeah, I'm sure there are a few inaccuracies in the piece but seeing as how there's no info resource for you anywhere on the web I had to rely on my brain, and memories of that period are hazy for one reason or another! I really think there should be something online, even if it's just a proper wikipedia entry. If you want, get in touch via joe@thewhitenoiserevisited.co.uk and perhaps we could discuss putting something together? I'd be happy to write a proper biog, and put together a discography, but it would obviously need input from the band as I was never sure what happened regarding line-up changes etc. Plus you must have saved all the press clippings? Most of it was pretty good from what I can remember.
You were (still are!) one of my favourite bands from that period, and I realised how many tracks from 'Electric Colour Climax' I actually liked after I'd posted the piece! So perhaps my final paragraph was a bit harsh - you were obviously still misunderstood, even by your hardcore fans!
Take it easy and thanks for the tunes!
Joe
(If anyone who knows Jeff happens to read this, can you let him know that I am looking to get in touch)

Joe, thanks for the piece - I've found hardly any information on the band besides this. I saw Spitfire at The Roadhouse in Manchester in the early 90s and thought they put on a great show. I love the two Steve Mack-produced singles and just wish he'd produced the whole album as these tracks still sound fresh and relevant. Much better than a lot of the shit that's around at the moment.

Me and my mate loved Spitfire so much we formed a tribute band in the mid 90's called 'Backfire' (as in 'the 'Fire are back'). We felt the world needed a second chance to experience the wonders of tracks like Superbaby. Even though we never got out of our bong smoke filled practice room and my mate Nick struggled with the complexities of their solos
Long live their spirit and let the good times roll!!!

Spitfire are one of my fav all time groups those first Eps had a lot of play time on my turntable as a teenager and still do. I really enjoyed goin to see them live. They looked really cool and the lasses always fancied them! My brothers, girlfriends mate used to go out with one of the guitarists Steve i think. Anyway long live the Spitfire spirit it certainly lives on in me. thanks lads

Hi ... Well, I'm up for helping you get a proper Spitfire website together.
Have another listen to ECC, it might just surprise you. Mind you, I was never a great fan of the title track (and I was loosely 'manager' of the band at the time, although managing the Pitcher brothers is like herding cats really). 'Rip My Sweetheart' is my favourite off that album, by the way.

We're hoping to make it a definitive place for all info for Spitfire seeing as there is cock all on the web. If you can contribute in any way, please get in touch.
Cheers!
