Please don't feed the trolls!

the germans i speak to several times a day dont like obama JMG

Gravatar Wonderful!
And how cool! I ate at Ka-De-We several years ago. Was a woman with flaming red hair, alabaster skin and green eyes who spoke German with an Irish accident.

Gravatar Palin a joke?

what?

Gravatar McCain's viewership beat Obama's last night. That's huge. I'm guessing polls will show a strongMcCian lead starting next week. Americans are starting to wake up.

Gravatar I'm not the best at math and/or metric conversions, but the V-Power would come out to be around $6.09 per gallon - I think. That would be pretty cheap for Europe, eh?

Looks like ya'all are having a GREAT time, and I wish ya'all safe travels. Don't worry about taking time during your vacation to post photos. Leave the computer behind and just go out and ENJOY yourself!

Gravatar Have a great time!

Love the name of your Platz.

Gravatar Heyyyyyyy, I just now read that you are in my homeland, Joe. A belated, but very, very heartfelt welcome! I hope the Germans you meet will all be nice with you and you will enjoy your stay. And next time you visit Germany you´ll come to Munich and I will show you my city.

Gravatar I understand why the Germans dont like Palin. They have first hand knowledge of what fascism can do to a country.

Gravatar Looks like you're taking best advantage of the city. Palin's no joke here as a huge number of typically image-conscious, politically apathetic or politically ignorant Americans were beguiled by he totally camera- and media-ready governor. Her resume is pathetic. God, how sad for us Americans!

Gravatar I'm so ready for this election to be over.

Let it be done.

Gravatar McCain's viewership beat Obama's last night.

According too who? And how many of them were able to stay awake?

What a moron...

Gravatar Checkpoint Charlie? It took me 45 minutes to get through in 1982. What a different city today huh?

Gravatar From Sullivan:

"Here We Go

Todd Palin's former business partner files an emergency motion to have his divorce papers sealed. Oh God."

I imagine that's the former business partner the Barracuda is alleged to have engaged in a little extra-marital church study with.

Bring it on National Enquirer! That bitch is going down!

(Again.)

Gravatar Hope you have a really great time... sounds like it's off to a good start. Not sure how I'd feel about the tourbus full of leathermen, but hey, it's an attention-getter.

I wouldn't mind getting info about the agency you rented the apartment from, srsly. And Brigitta, does your invitation extend to your fellow commenters here? Ha!

Enjoy the weekend in Deutschland. Don't do anything indiscreet at the Brandenburger Tor.

Gravatar I quote Bette Midler, who prior to a concert in Berlin(?)said, and I paraphrase: "Dear God, get me the fuck out of here!"

Gravatar I wish it was 148.9 (cents/liter) over here! The average is about 160 over here, I think...

Fill up a tank of that cheap gas and come on over to Amsterdam!

Gravatar Love the picture with Leif. What a hottie!

Gravatar Joe - Glad you're having a good time.

Can you find out how much the locals know about Palin's corruption scandals? Specifically TrooperGate and the attempted book banning?

Gravatar Chuck -

I believe that was just before she found herself helplessly belting out:

Hitler had only big ball,
Goering had two but they were small -
Himmler had something sim'lar,
But Goebbels had no balls at all!

But times change, and now she's been married to a Kraut for two decades. Maybe something sim'lar will happen to Joe!

Gravatar Joe -

Have a great time in Berlin - I'm totally jealous. Great picture of you with Leif!!!!

Sending you much love and friendship!

David

Gravatar Band

The more the Dems take potshots at Palin's personal life...the more popular and defended she'll become.

Check your polls...she currently beats both McCain and Obama quite handily.

And thank US Magazine for bringing her story to every Wal Mart shopping...living in a small town...Republican voting...woman that is out there...

And you can thank Jan Wenner for that!

Gravatar According to dan Froomkin of the Washington Post, no numbers yet on McCain's litany of vague cliches. Not until late today. Trolls obviously don't read.

Gravatar Had forgotten about Ka-De-We, it was very gay-gay-gay the last time I was there. An incredible reminder of what dept stores once were like here.

Gravatar Who is the Bootylicious Bear in pic #5? Is that Aaron?

===

I know its supposed to be off limits but did you all see that Levi is sporting a Bristol tattoo on his ring finger...

The romantic in me feels that is the sweetest thing...and the cynic in me thinks that it got applied on his flight from Alaska to St. Paul...

However, I have lived in a small town before...and do know...that secrets are rare and hard to keep for too long...so it should not be too hard find out about it.

Gravatar Redneck,

A fired up, media-hating base is not gonna be nearly enough to win the White House for the Repubs this year.

Independents are turned off by Palin because:

1) She's a holy roller who's entirely opposed to abortion, tries to have books banned from libraries, and believes U.S. foreign policy should be based entirely on God's will.

2) She's a hypocrite who pushes abstinence-only sex education, abstinence until marriage, and slashes funding for young mothers, despite having had her own shotgun wedding when several months pregnant. (And it looks like she may be an unfaithful wife, to boot.)

3) She is ridiculously unqualified to be vice president, let alone president. And McCain is a 72-year-old cancer survivor.

4) She's a liar, who has repeatedly spewed misinformation since being added to the ticket, including her claim that she opposed the Bridge to Nowhere.

5) Although she claims to be a reformer, she's stonewalling the legislative investigation into her inappropriate firing of Public Safety Commissioner Monegan.

Without significant support from Independent and conservative Democrats, the Repubs don't stand a chance. And those are the voters McCain kissed goodbye the moment he chose the Lipsticked Pig.

Gravatar @Band

Some little tidbits for you to think about. I am not trying to change your mind about her, but pretending independents hate her is dishonest.

"There is a strong partisan gap when it comes to perceptions of Palin. Eighty-nine percent (89%) of Republicans give her favorable reviews along with 33% of Democrats and 59% of voters not affiliated with either major party."

"Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin's favorable ratings (58%) are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%."

"Fifty-one percent (51%) of Americans believe that most reporters are trying to hurt Palin's campaign, a fact that may enhance her own ratings."

"Fifty-one percent (51%) of all voters now believe that McCain made the right choice when he picked Palin to be his running mate while 32% disagree. By way of comparison, on the night after Biden gave his acceptance speech, 47% said that Obama made the right choice."

Gravatar As someone who used to live in Dallas and now lives in post-Christian Quebec (where church attendance is about 10% and support for gay marriage is 80%), I always get lots of questions about US social conservatism, the Republican Party and Christian fundamentalism.

It is one of those quirky American things that people outside the US just don't understand. How such a modern, advanced society can have so many people who believe that human beings were created in Disneyesque fashion 6,000 years ago mystifies the Québécois here and many Europeans, I am sure.

Gravatar Band...

With all these pet names I am beginning to think that you may have a little crush on me. Of note, I prefer chips & salsa over chocolate...

As per Palin, if she wasn't a threat, then you wouldn't be so worked up...

or is that just over me?

Leaving the office early...to enjoy the beautiful weather that we have here this weekend...before that lineup of storms head our way next week...

Gravatar Joey,

You're citing numbers from a poll taken the very day after Palin's well-executed speech to the RNC. You're seeing a statistical bump. In fact, I'm willing to bet yesterday's numbers will be the high water mark for Palin until election day—or until she's forced to withdraw.

Wait till Independent and Democratic voters get a chance to familiarize themselves with her snake-handling religious views, her extremely limited political background, her false claims of being a reformer, and all her many, many personal failings.

(Not to mention, how many American adults have dreadful high-school memories of spoiled, conniving, hypocritical, two-faced cheerleaders. I bet the McCain crew didn't think hard enough about that particular narrative.)

Gravatar Take an afternoon to sunbathe in Tiergarten park, JMG & company, and smell th flowers. Berlin is beautiful, but relax and let it soak in.

Do drop into the refurbished Hauptbanhoff, it's like no other train station you'll see soon.

And while you're in the Prinzeknecht bar neighborhood, go around the corner & eat at the sidewalk cafe at the little Italian place. The food is great and the waiter - a family member of the owners, is fabulous to behold.

Gravatar It does seem like Europeans are more in tune to what is going on, politically.

I think a vast majority of Americans are just too stupid.

Example: At Panera today, some man in his 60's or 70's made a comment that "democrats have been in control the past 8 years".

Then a couple hours or so later, some woman made a comment that she voted Democratic last time, and she likes to 'give everyone a chance' so she's voting Republican this time around.

Sadly, they don't require a test before people register to vote.

Gravatar It helps that Deutsche Welle is nothing like CNN (although more soporific than PBS). I'd guess a lot of people watch BBC, which far better in its analysis of US politics than any US network/station.

Gravatar @Band

If the Democrats and the media can focus their criticism of her based on her actual policies, and Biden can contain himself from making any more sexist comments, then they may be able to deflate her popularity.

However, if she faces the same sexist attacks Clinton faced, she will continue to parlay those attacks into rallying cries. If a single Democrat makes any reference to "Fatal Attraction" you better believe that is going to piss off enough female voters to either come out in support of Palin or stay home in protest of the DNC's misogyny.

I know you live by day-to-day poll numbers Band, but what I know is Obama saw his double digit lead over McCain after the primary shrink to no lead at all; his post convention bump was smaller than Gore's (though bigger than Kerry's), and has already disappeared; and most importantly Obama always does better in polls than he does on election day. Clinton was able to grab some pretty solid victories in states Obama was slightly leading in the polls (New Hampshire, et al).

I am not pro-Palin at all, but it does not benefit anyone to be unrealistic about her appeal. Obama should focus his attention on McCain, and Biden should focus his attacks on Palin's lack of foreign policy experience (since she has them both beat on executive experience).

I know you want think this country is smart enough to see through the Palin mythology the Republicans are building (down-home charm, compassionate conservative, reformer, etc.), but remember those qualities got Bush elected twice. It is silly to think every voter in this country has suddenly wised up.

Love her or hate her, Palin just breathed new life into McCain's campaign.

Gravatar Oh, in Berlin, eat Currywurst! Lots of Currywurst!

While you can afford it before, thanks to the republicans, our dollar becomes on par with the Zimbabwean dollar.

Gravatar More views than Obama? Where'd you hear that? I haven't seen that anywhere...

Gravatar "McCain's viewership beat Obama's last night. That's huge. I'm guessing polls will show a strong McCian lead starting next week. Americans are starting to wake up."

Gravatar €1.619/l × 3.785 l/US gal × US$1.426/€ = US$8.74/US gal for the V-Power, I'm afraid.

Gravatar Caribou Barbie's goin' down.

Gravatar Personally, I love how the republicans spelled out all the details of their program so specifically....

POW POW POW

Gravatar Actually, Joey, I'm smart enough that I know NOT to pay attention to day-to-day poll numbers. That's why I was calling bullshit on you citing the Rasmussen numbers on Palin from yesterday.

But I definitely think when historians look back on why McCain lost this election, a lot of them are going to point to Plain's selection as the self-administered coup de grâce.

Here's McCain's longtime political guru Mike Murphy's take on her selection:

http://www.time-blog.com/ swampla...over_sarah.html

"What I don’t like is the effect I think Palin will ultimately have on the ticket. With all her charm, she is still a pick aimed squarely at the Republican base. In a high turnout Presidential year, I am not worried about turning out the base. I’m worried about everybody else we need to win and I fear that among those voters, Sarah Palin will be a dud.

I know, I know, she’s a “hockey mom” and through the magic of identity politics she is going to make female voters swarm across party lines in numbers that Gerry Ferraro never dreamed of since this identity politics hokum is only a good idea that is certain to work when, um, we Republicans try to do it.

Instead, I think she’ll ultimately be a polarizer. After last night’s smash, Republicans are in deep love. Nothing thrills ‘em like a good 'us vs. them' speech. But I’d guess that most Democrats had the opposite reaction. In a year where the Democrat generic numbers are 10+ points better than the Republican, I don’t like the math of a strategy that just polarized the election along party base lines. Among the vital sliver of voters in the middle, I think Palin’s rock solid social conservatism will be a turn off. And while voters may value vision over experience, Palin’s inexperience is a weakness, denying McCain an argument that has been helping him against Obama."

Gravatar Band -- You missed this:

6) Her head was so deep in the earmark trough she got, on the average, more than $6 million dollars each year for Wasilla when she was mayor. The watchdog group on earmarks said that Wasilla AK was in the top three worst in the country. As governor she got $400 average in earmarks for every person in AK. Far more per person than any other state and although she was against the brigge to nowhere (after she was for it, etc. etc.) she kept the more than $200 million dollars to use for other things.

Another cute thing Alaska has such a surplus, even though they have no state income tax or sales tax, that every person, from oldest to youngest, if they have lived in AK for at least one full year gets a $1200.00 check. Hey, my tax money and your tax money is used for those earmarks and Alaska has a surplus to give each citizen. That's our money she's using.

Gravatar Another thing. The governor has a line item veto on the budget. She vetoed ANY funds for homes for unwed mothers AND even worst CUT the funds for special needs kids 62%.

I don't give a crap about her family values style personal life. That's her life and I will not judge her on it although she does seem to judge me on my gay lifestlye.

I don't want her Alaska First values in DC as VP. I can see an AK senator has Alaska First values but the VP should be USA FIRST.

Gravatar ED - how dare you!

Don't you knopw it's sexist to point out that she abused her power to get her former brother in law fired, tried to ban books at a library, earmarked herself a slush fund, lied about her support of the Bridge to Nowhere, and wants her religious beliefs about science and sex taught in public schools?

All if the criticisms are indeed based on fact, but - but - but... uh,

You're attacking her about all these things simply because she's a woman!!! Sexist pig!

Here's 5:43 of Jon Stewarty goodness on this very subject.

http://www.comedycentral.com/vid...? videoId=184086

Gravatar "And while voters may value vision over experience, Palin’s inexperience is a weakness, denying McCain an argument that has been helping him against Obama."

Clinton lost because Obama used the argument that her experience was a liability, and his inexperience was an asset...but McCain was somehow going to win because the rest of the country (those who did not vote in the primary) disagreed with that idea?

I know this guy does this for a living, but I think McCain was smart enough to see how Obama's "Washingotn outsider" schtick hurt Clinton and chose to counter-act it with his own Washington outsider. I think Obama and the media are just mad because he is getting a taste of his own medicine.

Band, for someone who does not like polls, I know you sure made me sweat during debates about Obama and Clinton with some very well researched statistics. You may claim to not like them now, but you always seemed to have some recent poll numbers to back up your pro-Obama arguments. The one thing I could count on when I defended Clinton was you would always do the most research (and provided links to prove it!) when it came to defending Obama. I am not sure where this new "no polls" Band came from, but that is not the Band I consider my favorite sparring partner.

Gravatar Forgot to say -- Great pictures Joe. Have a good time.

Sexist Pig

Gravatar No apology forthcoming....Sorry

Gravatar Joey,

I would never characterize Obama's defense against Clinton's "no experience" arguments as painting her own experience as a liability. She simply didn't have enough governing experience to really take him to task for being new on the scene. McCain, however, is a different matter.

You'll note that during the primaries Obama's dominant slogan was "Change We Can Believe In." It was designed to play on perceptions that Clinton could not be trusted, and hit paydirt during Snipergate. During the DNC, that slogan morphed into "The Change We Need." Obama's attacking McCain directly as being part of the old ways and incapable of change. He's priming the electorate to take a chance on him.

As for polls, they're great. It's paying attention to day-to-day fluctuations that's silly. But when you do cite a particular poll, you've got to factor in what outside events are showing up in that particular day or week's polling. Palin has been in the national consciousness for 1 week, and the polling you cited was from the one day in that week when she could be expected to be buoyed by good news/positive events.

When Obama was that fresh on people's radar his favorable ratings were also incredibly high. People have learned a hell of a lot about him since then.

Palin's got nowhere to go but down. And while the past week's major scandal—pregnant, unwed, teenage daughter!—could be batted away as an invasion of her family's privacy and ganging up on a helpless bystander, the coming scandal coverage (Troopergate, Librarygate, Adulterygate, VindictiveBitchgate, JewsForJesusgate, etc.) will all be focused squarely on Palin herself.

Outside of the Republican base, she's going to be an albatross.

Gravatar Oh yeah, This one is really funny. Palin filed an ethics complaint against HERSELF in order to forstall the Legislature's ethics probe. Without a complaint the Legislature does the probe but if there is a complaint the three person Ethics Commission looks into the matter. As a special little perk the members of the Ethics Commission are appointed by the Governor. Oops, she didn't realize that.

One fatal flaw, the Legislature can still do their probe.

Gravatar I'm just glad you're having a good time. The most I've seen of Germany has been the Frankfort airport as a stopover. I really have to plan a trip to Berlin or Munich!

Gravatar Everyone needs to check out this link from a resident in Wasilla, Alaska, who knows Sarah Palin well.

http://www.andrys.com/palin-kilk...n- kilkenny.html

Gravatar They interviewed Ann on NPR today. Love this woman!

Gravatar Randy - fantastic link - thank you!

Let's spread it far and wide...

Gravatar Joey,

In the interest of beating a dead horse...

Palin's favorable/unfavorable ratings are actually pretty lousy compared to the corresponding, during-convention polling for VP nominees Lieberman, Edwards, and...wait for it...even Sith Lord Dick Cheney.

PALIN 2008
Favorable 50.3
Unfavorable 33.0
SPREAD +17.3

LIEBERMAN 2000
Favorable 45.0
Unfavorable 12.0
SPREAD +33.0

EDWARDS 2004
Favorable 49.6
Unfavorable 24.6
SPREAD +25.0

CHENEY 2000
Favorable 46.5
Unfavorable 18.5
SPREAD +28.0

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2...han- cheney.html

You'll notice that Palin's favorables are actually pretty good: 0.5 to 5.3 higher than anybody's. Fabulous! But her negatives REALLY suck, coming in at 8.4 to a whopping 21.0 higher.

She's polarizing. And that's a huge problem this year.

Gravatar Palin is doing about as well as Biden, however.

BIDEN 2008
Favorable 48.0
Unfavorable 31.0
SPREAD +17.0

Gravatar It's gonna be a fun ride to the finish. I can actually say, despite all the polarizing on sites like this, most of the comments I've been getting from people on both sides outside of the blogosphere (which gets really nasty on both sides!) is that while they have their favorite and are enjoying arguing the merits of that favorite, they still feel this is a choice between two very good candidates. That makes me feel good, and confident that the country will be able to unite behind whoever wins this. I thought McCain was very classy last night when he praised Obama and said being fellow Americans was what was most important, just as Obama has been classy in praising McCain as hero. I am proud to be an American and proud to have both of these great men vying for the position.

Gravatar Ah, great memories of the KaDeWe!! I shopped there on my first trip to Berlin, in 1965. WHAT a contrast to the drab (and unpopulated) state-run department store in East Berlin, with its moldering wares from Soviet-bloc coutnries (even WORSE than the crap we in the USA now import from China).

I was thrilled when The Wall (der Mauer) came down, but I do think the physical destruction of the wall was done in too much haste, too thoroughly. There were important political lessons, perhaps best seen in the contrasts of the two cities, the kinds of things I could see in 1965 (and NOT just the quality of consumer goods), that were erased too thoroughly, and thus obliterated from future generations minds.

Gravatar Palin WILL be president. I know it. Flying Spaghetti Monster preserve us. Just when I had hopes the Repuke-lican theocracy had come to an end, this "Every Woman" Harpy pops up. Fucking stupid, main-stream American public. Why'd they vote for Bush? "'Cause he's average just like us!" Why will they vote for Sarah "Clampett" Palin? "'Cause she somebody just like us!"

When Da Shrub ran for the second term, I thought he'd never win, I mean, no possible way, but he did.

I foresee 8 more years (at least) of incompetance, cronyism, debt, and ignorance.

Gravatar @Joe (Another one): YES!!! I may not be the most experienced of all tourist guides when it comes to where Munich´s best gay clubs ect. are. But for the non gay attractions - ask me

Gravatar BO thinks he has more executive experience because he's been running his presidential campaign for 2 years. Wow it's so laughable. This guy is unbelievable. He is so coddled by his people. Oh and why hasn't it been reported that Oprah won't even touch a Palin interview. How long is she gonna leave it in him. LOL
The more europeans like Obama, the more Americans love McCain.

Gravatar I love all the white ball headed men. It looks like a cue ball convention or a white power convention. I thought bears were suppose to like hair.

Gravatar The tour was actually really good.

Gravatar Joe and Leif in Berlin! Shake it up fellas.

Gravatar Gee, nobama, how can Oprah talk to Palin? She's not comfortable talking to the media yet. Suppose she became president and there was a crisis but she "Was not comfortable"? And Palin called Hillary a whiner.

Ready on Day One to assume the presidency. She's not even ready to give an interview.

Gravatar fyi

steven harper, prime minister of canada, has called an election for october 14. it's my fervent hope that the backlash toward bush, the iraq war, mccain and palin will result in us being able to get rid of harper and his conservatives and not put them in with a majority government.

cross your toes for us, would you?

Gravatar Isn't it funny how the racist trolls on this blog were demanding that Obama detail all his policies and plans and then when it got to the Republican convention where almost no details were discussed, they're all "ooh McCain is a man of HONOR I love him".

Swine.

Gravatar Dearest JMG,

Berlin is my favorite city in the world, however I haven't been there since 1985, when it was still divided.
Fun and scary at the same time.

Have a great time!

Gravatar The latest reports are calling Palin a whorebag...an "alledged" affair with her husband former business partner. He has just filed and emergency motion to have his divorce records sealed.

Gravatar The request to seal the divorce proceedings has apparently been denied.

Up crops this disturbing -- and admittedly questionable -- allegation that when Obama beat Hillary, Palin squealed "so Sambo beat the bitch!"

Gravatar at least she didn't call him a Tarzan.

Gravatar Per "whorebag"...(this is way off pretty pics of Berlin)
If memory serves, those beauty *sic* queen types got most of their Home Coming votes behind the bleachers giving blow jobs to the masses...not that that is a bad thing, as things go.

Gravatar Is that a poster of an American GI in front of Checkpoint Charlie? Does it change or stay there like that in the middle of the street? Is it a billboard or a megatron screen of some sort. Why is that there like that?

Gravatar Leif! You said you were traveling but I didn't expect to see pics of you in Berlin w/ Joe pop up on Joe.My.God.

Real Bad prep is going well. Have a great time and see you soon,
-Craig

Gravatar Joe-in-Atlanta = not-so-closet racist.

Dude, just ADMIT already. You don't care for black people. It's OKAY to come clean about that, considering how obvious it is.

Joe (the good one): fabulous that you're in Berlin!! Enjoy Germany!!! Darling, though, why aren't you here for every moment of the post-Labor Day election season. It's ALL anyone anywhere is talking about in the USA (ooh-ess-ahhh)!

Gravatar The astonishing thing about smug rednecks is how effortlessly they fabricate (and believe they see) smugness in those more educated, experienced, traveled and sophisticated than they are.

Even when they're not being condescended to, and they're treated with the dignity they deserve, the Republican Lying Machine has convinced them that they're being condescended to. It's reassuring to see this played out every time Joe-in-Atlanta sets fingers to keyboard.

Gravatar Joe in Atlanta is the absolute WURST.

Gravatar My hunch is that Sarah will be on a very short leash until November (If she hasn't withdrawn by then). She won't be doing any interviews or public appearances that aren't pre-scripted. It's just to dangerous for the Repubs to trust her to answer impromptu hardball questions, like,,gasp,,the economy, or Iraq or something

Gravatar Yup...it's confirmed that Caribou Barbie will not be doing unscripted interviews so don't look for her on Oprah or Ellen....Fox (Faux) News maybe, but definately nowhere that she could speak her mind or what little of one she has under all that hair and lipstick.

Gravatar do you watch ellen and oprah? i bet you watched martha stewart too, huh?

Gravatar Life is a Cabaret!

Gravatar I foresee 8 more years (at least) of incompetance, cronyism, debt, and ignorance.

Far worse, I'm afraid.

For many LGBTs, women, racial minorities, poor, and overlapping members thereof, a McCain/Palin White House will be life-threatening.

We are weeks away from the possibility of electing a kleptocratic, warmongering, homophobic, anti-choice, pro-creationist Presidency that will tip The Supreme Court once and for all. The saw of "McSame" misses the point, because a McCain/Palin ticket is not comparable to George Bush and Dick Cheney. It is comparable to George Bush and Anita Bryant.

Notwithstanding our votes and campaign efforts, every person on this thread should be considering a personal Plan B should the unthinkable happen on Election Day.

LIFE. THREATENING.

Gravatar Watching Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae tank, I can't help but think the end of the world scenario presented by freddyinp'town above is closer than many of you may even want to consider.

Sadly, many of the posters here aren't going to be around for a supreme court swing back to common sense if McCain is elected. Because Palin is most likely going to be making that Supreme Court nominee decision. (I mean, these are LIFE long positions. And they may outlive many of us).

Though I've noticed with each passing day, McCain seems to becoming more and more a democrat. He certainly is taking on all those things for which he criticized Obama.

And I have to wonder....why isn't the hypocrisy more prominent in the polls? the media?

Gravatar get the campaing off biography and back to issues and your guy(obama) will win. sticking with cyberbashing palin and he will lose.

Gravatar Joe-in-Atlanta: Why do you expend your energy telling us the same old argument everyday? Please enlighten me, and of course, do it in your usual 500-word essays, with an opening paragraph, a line divider, and of course, some random off-topic comment. Followed by douglas in oklahoma using so many dashes that even Emily Dickinson would be disgusted.

JMG, enjoy Berlin while your children here continue to chase each other on the playground with rocks.

Gravatar Why doesn't Obama run for supreme ruler of Germany if they love him so much. Let him raise their taxes and we'll see how much they love him. I'm soooo sick of the lazy good for nothings living off of the government. Let them get a f'n job.

Gravatar If you go on other message boards please help spread the word in why McCain is wrong for this country. This election is too important to sit on the sidelines.

Don't let the McCain campaign get away with fooling people into believing he is the change agent. Please repeat this as often as possible: McCain is more of the same.

Talking Points

* McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time.

* McCain has 169 lobbyists working for him including his campaign manager. Obama has zero.

* McCain blocked raising fuel efficiency standards.

* McCain supported tax breaks for oil companies.

* McCain: "Economics is something that I've really never understood"

http://www.lcv.org/obama/mccain-...cain- facts.html

Gravatar Freddy in p'town, as usual you're a bit too dramatic. Keep in mind that McCain is almost assured to have a strongly Democratic congress were he to be elected (knock on wood he won't be). He won't be able to get everything passed. And I think Yukon Barbie Palin will have less influence than you do.

Gravatar DON'T MISS HAMBURGER BAHNHOF.

Gravatar No Obama: "Wow it's so laughable."

No, 'No', you are.

No Obama "This guy is unbelievable."

Again, that's all you.

No Obama: "How long's she going to leave it in?"

No telling. How long before you leave this scene?

Gravatar "Let [obama] up [deutchland's] taxes and we'll see how much they love him.

Don't know much about europe, or even canada, do you? Or the fact that the middle-class tax cut'd do what this country most needs: to save its lil' middle folk from the $5,000 a second hole that is the 2nd Iraq war. Assmaster.

"I'm soooo sick of the lazy good for nothings living off of the government. Let them get a f'n job." You're so sick of a republican talking point? Are you kidding? You quick shits love bloviating about that ad nauseum. U ADORE it.

Don't whine about it and don't check your facts--it might upset your krazy konsensus reality. Spam spam spam spam spam spam, wonderful spam!

Gravatar "Rep. Barney Frank is among the first Democrats to publicly say Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s family background, including the pregnancy of her unwed teenage daughter, should be fair game for campaign discussion." 09/07/08 washinton blade

Gravatar Chubby Hubby I ADORE Martha Stewart!
And Ellen! And Oprah!

So how did you get so "Chubby"?
Kraft Macaroni and Cheese? You do know there's life beyond Hamburger Helper right?

If Palin's family "issues" are "private" why did she parade her preggers daughter and soon to be shotgun wedded son-in-law up on the dias for all to marvel over?

Vomit

Gravatar Tex,

you also forgot to point out that she's also clutching her handicapped child in that front page photo. Palin's family "issues" are "private" unless she needs some props to appeal to the common man.

Gravatar jmg, when you get back, please do something about all the right-wing faggots that are trashing up this blog. jesus, there are some stupid masochistic homos out there.

Gravatar Bill

To be fair to McCain he wants to get rid of earmarks and he started that the day after the Democrat Convention when he choose "The Queen of Earmarking" as his Veep. She got, on the average $6.7 million in earmarks per year for Wasilla when she was mayor. This is for a town of 6 to 8 thousand people. McCain even had Wasilla on his hit list for earmarks. One of the top three.

She kept at it when she was Governor, but now she is against them.

Gravatar Mmm…sausage!

Lisa – kudos for being cute, comedic, original, and following the theme of the thread…

And, let me just say, that no one who has ever tasted my sausage…has ever complained about it. Ahem…

===

After about 6 weeks of travel, family visits, and of just being out of my normal routine…I was feeling a bit flabby…and decided I needed to get back on my program…so last week I began to eat healthier once again. I’m good for 2 months…bad for two months. I’m sure many of you know how it goes...

So you may note that I do have food on the brain this week…

Mmmm…chips & salsa! I prefer salty foods to sweets. Peanuts, chips, fries, olives, pickles…a country ham biscuit would be good right now. Mmmmm…

Off to brunch with the boys...

I must be good, I must be good!

And maybe I can drop a pound or two as quickly as Obama is dropping in the polls…where today his lead is a mere 1.8%…with and error of +/- 4%...it’s anyone’s election once again.

Gravatar *smacks forehead and reminds self that I'm glad to be on the other side of town from J-i-A*

Gravatar @evangenital: Nah, it's quite entertaining to me. And I enjoy being infuriated. Anger keeps me motivated, and anger keeps me alive, though it will probably kill me early.

Lisa | 09.07.08 - 1:21 am | #

Lisa:

Know what? Cassandra was a drama queen too.

I'm not comforted by the probability that Democrats will expand control of Congress in November, nor should you be. Their 2006 sweep didn't stop Bushco from trashing the economy (e.g., soaring inflation and unemployment; a bear market; and millions of people losing their homes in a mortgage world so screwed up that it was formally nationalized this morning, literally one hour before I typed this note).

Democratic control of Congress has also failed to end the war in Iraq and the saber-rattling on Iran. All that has improved for "people like us," for want of better terms, is the California court decision legalizing marriage for all.

Your remark about Sarah Palin is glib, given that a 72 year-old man stands a one-in-three chance of not making it to 80. As of now McCain is, of course, alive and kicking, and mean, intemperate and ignorant.

From the horse's mouth:

"I don't know anything about the economy."

"Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb Iran."

I agree with you that "He won't be able to get everything passed." But the enormous something is cause for alarm.

Gravatar a McCain/Palin ticket is not comparable to George Bush and Dick Cheney. It is comparable to George Bush and Anita Bryant. freddyinp'town

freddy -- you are SO right on with this one -- I never thought of that but it is a good parallel -- so let's get out the cream pies again and give IglooEva the treatment!

Gravatar Folks, it's only been a week. A little premature to decide it's over, no? Lets see what happens with the debates, with Palin out on the media circuit, when she has to start answering questions, let's see how well that plays with everyone other than the Evangelicals. The Republican party has completely abandoned it's platform in one fell swoop, and now simply wants to coast to victory on the popularity not of it's Presidential candidate, but on the popularity of it VP?!? Forgive me for not panicking yet. Take Palin seriously as a threat? Absolutely. But, it's by far not even close to being over.

Gravatar Wow, the Gallup poll has McCain at +3.

Gravatar Wow, Obama's post-covention bounce had him up +9 a week ago.

So McCain's bounce is a joke. He'll be back to –2 to –5 again by week's end. Exactly where he's been for the past 6 months. With less than two months to try and get it together.

Gravatar oh brother "tex" is that the best you can do? you're a regular cyberbully ain't cha or do you have the rag on again?

Gravatar Well if you say Obama had a a bounce of 9 (which it wasn't it was 4), then that means McCain had a bounce of 12!!!!! Wait till more of the Ayers info comes out and Palin slaughters whats his name in the VP debate and Obama will be through. October is gonna be sweet. McCain/Palin '08

Gravatar Hey Joe:

I have an EXCLUSIVE WITH SARAH PALIN about the banned books issue at my blog...thought you might like to see.

-Kate

Gravatar Hey nobama perhaps you can start attending Sarah Palin's church where they will happily convert your self-hating homosexuality to self-hating heterosexuality! And your McCain necktie will look so cute there.

Gravatar Except for those spewing knee-jerk left venom, or the occasional snarky Fin, everyone else agrees that Palin rocked the house. Joe Biden has had 35 years of non-change under his belt...maybe he's supposed to cultivate the crotchety old man vote. But since we're voting for president, and not vice-president, I'm happy with flipping the switch for Obama in November, in spite of his awful choice as running mate. I do like Palin.

Gravatar I love that Joe-in-Atlanta never refutes what a racist he is. I do wish, though, that he would man up and ADMIT to his racism.

Anyone who was a Hillary fan and is now a McCain supporter hasn't made the switch because of policy, considering Obama and Hillary disagree on policy by about a hair's breath. The only reasonable conclusion for making such a switch is racism.

Gravatar No reason for us to be to be hatin' on troll-y assholes here, mouth breathers who take up space and spout not re-re-re-spect but re-re-re-grugitated 'publican talkling points. I won't even name them, for we know whom.

Let them waste their halitosis here rather than doing something leverage-incurring out in the world. True, if they didn't exist it wouldn't be necessary to invent them, but since they lurk here we might as well embrace that they aren't doing any actual harm or having any influence on us at all.

Gravatar I had half of a half of a muffaletta for breakfast. It was good. It came from a place in Wilmington, DE.

Gravatar Chubby...maybe not the BEST I can do, but certainly more effort that YOU are worth. You obviously loathe yourself far more that I ever could.
Now...off you go. Your Swanson HungryMan meal is burning!

Gravatar Maybe give things another week.

The video of Palin's church is circulating now and they appear really extreme. That may turn some people off.

Gravatar re: pirana palin (& her attacking minions, as if ann coulter were played by a woman)

"Before Sarah Palin joined John McCain on the Republican presidential ticket, she was Sarah Barracuda, a nickname earned playing high school basketball. The McCain campaign used the name for inspiration at the convention in St. Paul last week, playing "Barracuda" by the rock group Heart as an unofficial theme song. But the sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, left and right above, of Heart, have sent a cease-and-desist letter to the campaign, asking it to stop using their song, Reuters reported. "The McCain campaign respects intellectual-property rights," Brian Rogers, a campaign spokesman said. "Accordingly, prior to using 'Barracuda' at any events, we paid for and obtained all necessary licenses." Last month the singer Jackson Browne sued Mr. McCain, the Republican National Committee and the Ohio Republican Party, accusing them of using his song "Running on Empty" without permission for a campaign ad."

That's interesting: are they doing truth in advertising? I THINK OF THEM as (barely) Running on Empty, too. Empty of ideas, of interest, of respect--it's totally appropriate!

Gravatar Hey Joe: I have an EXCLUSIVE WITH SARAH PALIN about the banned books issue at my blog...thought you might like to see.-Kate

Kate, I am hoping that this is satire. If it is not, this alone if known should discredit her among voters with any sense of intelligence or respect for freedom of speech. Only a fundamentalist Christian maniac would try to ban Shakespeare and other classic literature from a public library in the 21st century! The more we read about this women, the clearer it is that she is Jesus with lipstick -- she's got a big cross and she's a comin' for the unbelievers!

Gravatar Photo of Sarah Palin explicitly engaging in an Alaskan hetero kink gathering. Of her own free will did the vile doxie partake in heterodeformative penis-vagina intercourse with Satan's spawn. Burn witch. Burn!

Gravatar one post

Gravatar two post

Gravatar somebody forgot to take their medication this morning. (dwerk?)

Gravatar Come on Tom. Actually that photo was pretty funny. Now I would not vote for Sarah Palin simply because of her (very limited) executive experience but if she's the one who got this party up and going the White House is going to be a very fun place IF (very big IF) she and the Old Dude are elected.

Gravatar Yeah Kristallnacht was a fun party too. Hitler was supposed to be very likeable!

Gravatar Does anyone have a large pot so we homo heathens can cook all the log cabbage missionaries who have suddenly descended onto Joe My God to try to convert us to their patron, Saint Sarah of the Pitbull Lipshtik?

Gravatar That list of banned books turns out to be completely fake. See snopes.com

Palin did inquire about how she would go about removing some books from the library but never specified which ones.

She still frightens me.

Gravatar I was wondering what other countries thought of this election. of course, they too would know that Obama would be the best pick.

Gravatar Please PLEASE tell me you went to "Snackpoint Charlie" while there!

Gravatar That list of banned books turns out to be completely fake
ish

I thought that sounded too good to be true. Just be patient though -- give her enough rope and she's be hanging herself soon enough.

Gravatar latest Gallop poll:

McCain/palin 54%

Obama/biden 44%

just like orca winfrey, i am crying my eyelashes off. what a beautiful thing to see.

Gravatar chgo phlly you are a complete sack of shit

Gravatar are chgophilly/nobama/chubbyhubby a comedy team?

Gravatar are chgophilly/nobama/chubbyhubby a comedy team?
anthony menendez

Yes -- they are more commonly known as Curly, Larry and Moe!

Gravatar are chgophilly/nobama/chubbyhubby a comedy team?

No...just 3 of the many faces of EVE.

Gravatar The Germans are very smart as far as being artists, doctors, scientists, inventors, but...politically? They elected Hitler.

Gravatar "There are none so stupid as those who will not learn." If I remember my bible-learnin' -- the only kind you'll get when President Palin is sworn into office for a second term -- that's from Proverbs.

Or is that another one of those bible passages that the neocons conveniently ignore while they're trampling all over the lives of other people?

The only regret is that some people are so dumb that even when you show them how they've been manipulated and duped by the forces which make obscene profits from their willingness to be manipulated, they'll STILL insist they were right all along.

Gravatar Anyone who calls it a "Gallop poll" (even third-graders know it's spelled "Gallup") is an idiot, case closed.

Gravatar Moreover, there isn't any Gallup poll that shows any such thing. Evidently the troll is referring to this USA Today poll, which so far at least is an outlier, since no other poll shows such a wide spread, post-convention bounce or no.
