Very brave. Good for him for standing up against his church.
Sick to death of hearing about the Church imposing their beliefs in this election. You want to be part of politics, then pay taxes. Period.

Bravery coming from a representative of the Catholic Church? I'm shocked. But very happy. This is one brave man.

I have a cousin who is a priest and is gay. I haven't been able to tolerate his company for years. As Rev. Geoff states, when one doesn't speak out then one is an accomplice. I have always felt my cousin is an accomplice to the political machine that is Catholicism.

this is a quote from father geoff's interview with action news. i think it's pretty awesome and totally on the mark...
Fr. Geoff said after months of struggling with what to do, said in the end he followed his heart. "In any event regardless of what I or anyone else does in their life, one day you die, and on that day were you true to your conscience, were you true to what you believe. And I think that's the question each of us has to answer. If the answer is no, hell already began before you died."

In the Canadian gay marriage debate, the Quebec catholic bishops spoke out strongly against it.
They were told by a senior federal politian in that province, that if the church wants to determine secular policies, then the state will regulate relgious policy and use legislation to mandate the admission of female priests.
It is a two-way street.
The bishops shut up real fast after that, and gay marriage legislation was passed into law.
Canada has no official separation of church and state, just that very brave politian who took these thugs on.
Like most bullies, they run when challenged.

Wow -- a NON-pedo priest! No wonder he's taking issue with the church. Needless to say he won't remain a priest for long. They'll toss him out so fast your head will spin.

so many lay catholics, clergy and nuns are light years ahead of the vatican and the hierarchy on social issues, particularly full civil rights for gays.
i know many catholic families with soccer moms and the like who are at odds with the official church position on gay rights, abortion and birth control.

Wonderful to see that these extraordinary times can produce courageous men, unafraid in the face of certain, implacable censure. Hope this resonates with the voters of California.
After the last couple of weeks of political lows, gives one hope.

Now this is a coming out to celebrate. I am happy whenever someone comes out, but too much credit is given to wealthy celebrities for stating the obvious.
This coming out might actually change some minds and hearts. This was truly brave. I thoughts and thanks go out to Father Geoff.

I am thrilled to see this. He has put his faith and integrity before his own comfort. What a tremendous example of Christian truth. This man shows the love of God that is real.
He will be in my prayers as he suffers repercussions for his bravery.

"I know that these words of truth will cost me dearly. But to withhold them would be far more costly and I would become an accomplice to a moral evil that strips gay and lesbian couples, not only of their civil rights but of their human dignity as well."
I don't mean to be a dick, but doesn't he regularly read from a book that says that men who lie with men should be killed? People so often forget that last -- and, to me, kinda important -- part of Leviticus 20:13.

bstewart23: Most Christian denominations, including Roman Catholicism, don't adhere to the Leviticus laws, although that particular verse gets cited a lot by fundies who don't have a problem with eating lobster or wearing poly/wool blends.

The great theologian, St. Thomas Aquinas, declared, “It is better to die excommunicated than to violate one's conscience," when in conflict with official church teaching.
The Catholic Catechism acknowledges that a person’s conscience is their “most secret core and sanctuary. There one is alone with God whose voice echoes in his depths.” Conscience is “a law inscribed by God… which we must obey, ever calling us to love and do what is good.”
Like many prophets and saints before him, Fr. Geoffrey Farrow now faces persecution by the pharisees of the institutional church who demand obedience to their authority rather than obedience to conscience.
But Fr. Geoffrey Farrow is in good company. Fr. Mychal Judge, “the Saint of 9/11”, asked, “Is there so much love in the world that we can afford to discriminate against any kind of love?!” Fr. Mychal also urged us, “Don’t let the institutional church get in the way of your relationship with God.”

Well, yes. Thus rendering the entire book of desert mythology suspect. Smorgasbord Christianists are probably the most annoying of all, so willing to dismiss the outrageous, hateful and murderous aspects of the book they hold in highest regard as "not to be observed" but the allowing the merely discriminatory or downright nonsensical to fly.
That said, I applaud this priest for coming out.

Maybe my gay cousin, the Monsignor, will be encouraged to come out himself. He could also tell us about the various assignations he has had with Priests, Bishops, other Monsignors, and one Cardinal.
Hypocrites and cowards, the lot of them.
Bravo, Father Geoffrey Farrow.

Thanks Father Geoff!!! I grew up in a Catholic family and believed in my heart that God loved everyone equally. As I grew older, I learned that although God may love everyone equally, the people made in his image had other thoughts about the issue. My family and the morals they taught me growing up shaped me to be who I am today. It is the reason why want to do my part in making the world a better place for everyone.
