I object to the use of the term "drooling retards" because it perpetuates unfair stereotypes of people who aren't able to defend themselves, but I object even more to the comparison of the developmentally disabled to the leadership of the Republican Party. Such a comparison might give the impression that those who have mental disabilities are willfully violent, deceitful, underhanded, arrogant, and place short-term financial or social gain ahead of justice, truth and genuine civic service. Nothing could be further from the truth; if the Republican leadership were, in fact, developmentally disabled, we could be far more understanding. I think the definition of progress for Dick Cheney and others like him would be to get them up to the same standards of compassion and decency shared by many of those who are challenged by developmental disabilities.
