The Theological Ruminator

Gravatar You should just memorize the whole Bible, and then as long as you know which bit you are supposed to be translating, all you have to do is remember what you memorized. hee hee.

Gravatar Or...

you could start going to a Greek Orthodox church (have you heard that it is the BEST church?), and practice your Greek every Sunday.

:u)

Actually, I'm a little jealous of people like you and Brian that actually know some Greek. I'd love to be able to understand more, and reading it would be awesome. Our (Greek Orthodox) church is better than a lot of (Greek Orthodox) churches at speaking more English, but we met some Greeks when we were on our Europe trip, and it would have been neat to be able to talk to them (They didn't know English)

Have you ever noticed that the word "Greek" is kind of a funny word? Write it enough times, and it'll start looking wierd.

Gravatar I have to admit to using Anna's first strategy more than once! I don't know about the second one though. I don't think professors would look too kindly on me singing/chanting the passage during an exam so that I could remember it!

Gravatar Yeah, and the Greek didn't help me much in the greek orth. service I went to. I understood some of the written liturgy, but had trouble "hearing" it since all I really do is read it. Also I wasn't sure what the differences were, but I know that modern Greek is different from New Testament Greek.

Gravatar Sounds Greek to me...
Dad

Gravatar Argghh!

Gravatar I'm really enjoying all of this bantering going back and forth. I don't have anything clever to add but thought I'd let everybody know that you're giving me some good laughs.....which is really quite kind considering the week that I've had (the whole family sick with me still pretty sick myself). Anyway, you guys are fun---the best family in the world!

Gravatar I'll bet new testament dudes didn't ever speak greek - they just wrote it all down and read what other people wrote down. That's why it's so helpful for you, JohnMark, to learn it.

Gravatar Brian, what in the world were you doing up at 2:08 a.m. this morning on the blog? By the way what time does it post anyway... the Greenwich Mean Time? Or maybe 2:08 a.m. is really afternoon tea time in Europe.

Gravatar Nope. Not Greeenwich Mean Time. It's NICE time. Haha.

The time is central standard time I think. So it would be 1:08 am for Brian.
