That guys who study original languages may over emphasize their importance may be true. What I want to know is what girls who study original languages do!

I use the word "guys" in the gender neutral sense common in the north. As in "you guys."

How would you know what is common in the north? I seem to recall telling you that you'd need more than a windbreaker to go to Minnesota in February!

Eh? I've spent 4 weeks in January in Minnesota. That makes me as good as born there. What do you think about that? Eh?

I'm glad you finally posted...I heard you made fun of Dan's asexual posts.
Anyway, I think the languages are necessary, as your point in Jonah demonstrates. I think the pastor needs to not speak down to his congregation, but he should surely share the word of God.
...just my thoughts, from a mac-guy.

It's a tough balance on the language issue. Sometimes the benefit of pointing out a linguistic nuance is outweighed by the detrimintal effect it can have on the average person in the pew (the negative effects I alluded to in my post).
And, yeah I did kinda think Dan's last few posts were really bordering on the sappy side of things. But, Dan, its your blog and those posts were definitely very sweet.

Speaking as an alien, I think the pastor that ignores the languages when he has the opportunity to make use of them is irresponsible, as your study of Jonah shows. Or, to give some balance for the NT, take the infamous example of James 4:5. The pastor that knows Greek or has access to the tools but doesn't use them has no idea that there are at least 5 ways to translate this verse (none of which make great sense in English!). This isn't elevating the importance of the languages; this is simple fact. That said, you know that I'm very reluctant to mention the original languages in a sermon setting. But for a pastor in our society to not make use of the tools available is, as I said, I think irresponsible.
