The Theological Ruminator

I thought the article was less about DTS than about dispensationalism. I'd have to say I also thought it was pretty fair and even managed to catch the snarky condescenion of the Lutheran professor. It seemed like the only people that really looked bad in the article were Jerry Falwell and Tommy Ice, neither with ties to DTS. I think you might be quibbling a little in your criticism, but then, I'm neither a DTS student nor a dispensationalist.
One thing I've always wondered is why its opponents see dispensationalism as so threatening.

Right - overall I thought what I read was relatively even handed. That comment was the only one I took issue with.
Generalizing where people are on a spectrum is difficult. I admit am being nit-picky here because the author seems to illustrate elsewhere how DTS is not as conservative in evangelical circles as others. Still, that comment, I thought wasn't accurate. Nit-picky yes, I know. But hey - that's what it takes to get a comment out of you.

On the threatening dispensationalist thing - I think perhaps this perceived threat is based on the extremist examples who make the news - i.e. Hal Lindsey, Falwell, etc. Hence, a straw man is built out of these guys and applied to all dispensationalists. (I expect that Lutheran pastor couldn't distinguish between the different forms of dispensationalism. The critique was universal but I expect the understanding was quite limited.)

Yeah, I agree that many see Falwell, etc. and paint with that brush but I know far too many people that should know better and think it's demonic at worst and the theology of the stupid at best. I'm at a loss at why. I've asked them and it seems like it's simply that too many people believe it. Such a crime. I could be sarcastic about such folks, but I'll refrain (for now, maybe!). Perhaps someday somebody will enlighten me why it's so evil.

They're probably just that way because they're stupid or demonic.

My favorite exorcist is Bob Larson. Sorry, is that off-topic?

Honestly, I've noticed the whole thing with people looking at dispensationalism/ists funny. I don't know why, though. There's plenty of other funny stuff out there...
I haven't read the article yet, but I will.

My favorite exorcism occurs when Dr. Evil is captured by the mechanical chair.
My main problem with dispensationalism is that students at the flagship school will not golf with me.
