Yes. I have encountered that view down here. I'd say it's strange, but really its kind of fun.
Every time we cross the border the kids, my wife, and I all sing "I'm a Texan." We've lived here less then 3 years, so we probably aren't, but it's still fun to sing. 
What about Alaska? It's only about - oh, 2 1/2 times the size of Texas. If you divided Alaska into two, poor lil' ol' Texas would be the third largest state. Awwwww.
You still have me beat though - I've just visited 3% (8 countries).
Just kidding. I'm 5% (12 countries).
Alaska is bigger .... BUT Texas is BETTER!!! Bwahahahahaha...
Just kidding of course. I'm obliged by the Texas committee of "We're the Best State in Everything" to write that.
On the countries, how did you miss four of the countries you've visited?
JM, i think you're obligated to have a beveled mirror in the shape of texas in the front hallway of your apartment too. Alaska is bigger, but texas is more obnoxious. haw haw haw

I'm at 5% too. But i'm probably around 80% of the US States.
Aside from Texas and Colorado, is there really anywhere else in the world worth visiting?
Texas is more obnoxious. But not as obnoxious as Mac evangelists.
Also, Brian, I think you're definitely ahead on the US thing. I'm around 18 states I think.
