I wouldn't say it's preferable; just different. It's definitely faster and easier to toss a quick note or thought into Twitter than to string together a series of them for a full-fledged blog post. I aim for at least a certain amount of cohesion (even if it's only in my own mind) when I write about something for the blog, whereas individual tweets can be apropos of nothing.
