Couldn't agree more about how blogging helps you realize what you're all about. Obviously, because blog traffic is so measurable, it shows if you're meeting your readers' needs fairly easily, and you quickly realize it's about you and not about you all at the same time.

I only recently started blogging myself, though I've read many in the past. I knew going in I would have to be clear and take a stance in my writing. Am I succeeding? I don't know. I imagine I will improve over time. But that was part of the reason I started my blog- to learn to speak up about something. For me, it's all about personal growth. If I happen to develop a following, won't that be the ultimate measure of succeeding in my growth?
