Born Again Redneck in the State of Jefferson

Patrick, it is illegal for state employees in TN to unionize. Thus, TN regularly ranks as one of the lowest taxed states in the entire nation.

Where can the influence for more government spending come from if there are no forced union dues to fund Democrats tax and spend campaigns? It's amazing how much higher the quality of life here is. Cost of living is considerably lower than the high tax state I came from, a total union run sh#thole, "Michigan West."

Gravatar What will the unions boast about when it's all gone?

Gravatar In NY state, the TIAA-CREF retirement plan, put in place by the teacher's unions, takes $3 of tax for every $1 contributed by the teacher/professional.

In 20 years, the plan is worth $1 million, and throws off $60k/year of income. At age 60, the entire million can be tapped, or just drawn upon.

Cry not for the poor teacher. They have million dollar pensions.

Gravatar Ted Kulongoski may be called governor of the State of Oregon, but he's purely a figurehead - in danger of losing his reelection bid due to lack of union support, he pulled in the former head of SEIU in Oregon along with another union thug to essentially run things.

Gravatar Al, exactly, teachers may not be the "highest paid" employees in the world, but when you add in the fact of their painfully generous "cost less" health insurance plans (both premiums and lack of deductibles and copays) along with their extremely short career and lifetime taxpayer funded PENSION and HEALTH INSURANCE (at least was the case in Taxconsin) and you will see that their "fringe benefit" expense comes out to 50-70% of their base pay. In the private sector, fringes including health insurance for most employees runs around 25% OR LESS. That's "all in," including payroll taxes, 401k matches and health insurance!
